Game Plan

19 posts in this topic

We moved the ball so well on first drive, throwing & running and then get away from that type of plan. Looked like Cam didn't allow Flacco to throw the ball, except for check downs. The check downs were designed, thats all Flacco looked for. Why change from first drive when its working? Continue until the stop you.
I feel game plan was lame. You saw Flacco on sidelines yelling at Cam. Yes we were beat by a better team, however, mistakes killed us (dropped passes, fumbles, penalties). Whats everyones throughts

I think the gameplan changed after Flacco narrowly avoided getting picked in the endzone by Bethea. However, the Ravens haven't shown a sophisticated passing game for several years now. If the opposing team takes away Mason's comeback/curl/and deep out-routes, that takes away 1/3 of the Ravens' passing attack. Maybe the Colts made some adjustments to their coverage because I clearly remember several times where Flacco dropped back, looked for the open man and couldn't find anyone before checking down. How many times have we seen that this year?

I REALLY didn't understand why Flacco was behind center on almost all of his passing plays. If he's being pressured on every play then put him in shotgun. Cam ALWAYS does that. My only major complaint about the offensive game plan.

I agree. We didn't do enough shotgun draws to Rice

I dont understand wy we dont do any quick slants or crosses over the middle of the field? We need to find a way to get someone some separation over the middle.

We did sadly, on Rice's non PI call against Brackett the original play call was 4 slants. Washington was open for about half a second, everyone else was completely blanketed.

The worst play calling, and the series that may have cost us the game, was the 3 and out just before half. We desperately needed at least 1 first down to get in the locker room in pretty good shape. Why we didn't recognize the import of that series is baffling. Way too conservative for the situation..................

Everyones right, our game plan shouldve been Ray Ray McGahee McClain Ray. Flacco is not a good postseason QB, he needs more weapons, otherwise he WILL force throws

They actually weren't conservative on that possession. Rice gained 4 yards on the first play and then Flacco went deep to Clayton on the next play. Someone missed a block on Freeney and he hurried Flacco into a bad throw. And then on third down, no one got open(again), Flacco checked down to Rice but he dropped the pass.

Yep. 10 4. I was referring to calling a pass on first down to mix things up.............

I don't know why they didn't do that. But if Rice had ripped off a 30-yard run on first down and the Ravens had gone on to score a TD or kick a FG before the half, it would've have been an issue.

There are times when play-calling comes into question but no play is designed to fail. Players need to execute and that didn't happen often Saturday night.

Plays may not be called to fail, but when you become predictable the odds are you will.

Yea it is true that he will force some throws, but the same could be said for a lot of younger guys. It was a team loss in my opinion. Everyone could have played a bit better. I also believe a QB needs more than two years before you judge if he is a good postseason guy or not. I do agree that he definitely needs more weapons and we need a better game plan than we had that night, that's for sure.
