Will Ray Lewis Ever Retire?

37 posts in this topic

With the news of Ed Reed's chance of retiring, do you see Ray Lewis retiring anytime soon? me personally i feel like ray can play 3-5 years more, and still play better than half the guys in the league. He has played amazing all throughout the year especially in the playoffs. He almost never gets injured.

I hope not for either one of them - they bring the passion to every play.
We need that, as their mental state is pretty important.
Positive energy feeds and spreads through when they are on the field.

Ray is going to finish out the contract I think, which means we got 2 more years of Rayness left boys. Bring out the DVRs and record every last snap you get to see Lewis take. You'll never see a LB like him ever again.

On Ray Lewis:
"He has a son, Ray Lewis IV, who plays quarterback at Lake Mary Prep and was named to the Football University Youth Projects Bowl."

Ray Lewis the QB?

lol thats kinda weird. You would think Rays kids would be defensive guys. But I applaud Ray for not forcing it down his kids throat, if the guy can play QB let him ball out.

Ray is still a bad boy and has at least 2 years left in his tank. 2 good years! he's an athelete and for the most part....they stay in good shape. sure...Ray is a little slower but his wisdom and feel for the game and about his position enables him to react quickly (i.e. the stop on Sproles in week 1 and that hit on the receiver in the endzone vs the Colts last night)

all i will say is that whenever Ray does decide to hang'em up....that will be a very sad day for me, the Ravens organization, the city of Baltimore and the entire NFL!

I will say this. This city will be in mourning when he does. Safe to say the Ravens will never be the same.

I'm not trying to criticize Ray but he's a lot slower. I was watching the NFL Network a few weeks ago and they showed this incredible highlight of him chasing down Eric Metcalf from roughly 20 yards away back in '97. It was unbelievable.

Ya ive said it before, but before Rays hamstring injury he was faster than alot of HBs in pads and faster than some WRs. Hes nowhere near as fast as he used to be, but he can still ball as evident by his first team AP all pro selection again this year.

Edit- I got our super bowl playoff games on DVD, and to be honest Ray is simply ridiculous. His athleticism, speed, physicality, imposing his will, coverage ability. Honestly if your a Ravens fan, and can spare the 25 bucks you need to buy that DVD box set.

He'll play til he's 50 lol. No I think 2-3 more years. 5 is a definite no.
[/quote]

I think he's got a chance at 5. Junior Seau played until this year, and he's 41. And Ray has a notorious fitness regime. I don't think he'll play for 5 more years, but I wouldn't go as far as saying he can't.

It'll be a truly sad day win Ray retires. I wish I'd started watching football sooner so I could have watched Ray Lewis dominate the fields more. Oh well, I hope he stays at least as a coach or something, but I know he's already said he's not interested in coaching, am I right, I'm not too sure. But I'd say Ray will stick around for 2 to 3 more years.

I've seen his boy play and he's pretty good for a jr. high kid. He does play some linebacker I believe, but he mostly plays RB & QB.

I can see Ray Ray now using a hoverround to chase down Bret Favre with his walker. This of course after Favre Retirement Version 8.2.1

And Ocho will still be tweeting from his scooter and Morton Anderson's leg will have fallen off.

In a manner of speaking, no. Minute bits of his DNA will be released into the drinking water at the Castle training facility and he will live on forever.

They need to add an honorary rook to the castle when Ray retires, because that man is a pillar physically and spiritually.

Ray Lewis will never retire! lol no but in all seriousness it will be a sad day for sure. Id say he single-handedly make this franchise a respected team and is easily the face of this franchise and will be for a very long time. Even with him not being as fast as he was during that amazing 2000 season, who else ever had that step he may have lost? Ray just being on the field is a huge difference just in that motivational sense, because look at how our defense performs without him. And guys like Bart Scott, Adalius Thomas, and Ed HArtwell were able to leave and get big contracts because of how much they improved playing next to Ray. When he retires, I think 52 should and will be retired and he will get a statue infront of our stadium just like Johnny U.

I don't think I would want to know where they would get the DNA from

In all seriousness, I would hope that Ray would consider some type of coaching or front office position when he does retire. He really is the face of the Ravens right now and he would deserve to be honored as such.

It would be better than steroids, not only would you be a physical and athletic specimen that the steroids would give you. But your competitive edge, game knowledge, and technique would be through the roof lol.

I was watching these games on the DVD set earlier today and Ray was simply amazing. I watched the games live when they were on but now looking back he was far and away the best player at that position. The fact that Ray is still a 1st team all pro after all this time just shows how great he was in his prime.

I am always curious as to how his 2002 season would have played out had he been healthy. He played 3 1/2 healthy games before he hurt his shoulder trying to recovery a fumble against the Browns on Sunday Night football and than played one more game later in the season with a completely messed up shoulder against the Dolphins. But in those 4 1/2 games he had 58 tackles, 2 int, 1 ff, 1 fr, and 3 pd and was a complete animal.

Of course, he came back in 2003 and had an amazing DPOY season!

Yeah, I have been guilty of that too! Speaking of comparing the elder Ray to the younger Ray. I found that it wasn't fair to Ray, because even the elder Ray is a better player that everyone in the NFL not named Ray. And that's saying a lot.
