I hope it wasn't his last game with the Ravens but I wouldn't be surprised if it is. He's become a really good blocker and has battled through injuries to have another solid season. However, he's on the downside of his career and is seemingly always banged up.

If it is, than we are in deep doodoo at the TE position. We will get Quinn Spenewski back.

The good news if this is true, their is a long list of UFA TE's this year. Ofcourse the CBA agreement could change what we do in Free Agency. But guys like the ones below are out there for the picking:
Anthony Becht
Owen Daniels
Anthony Fasano
Randy McMicheal
Billy Miller
Tony Scheffler
Benjamin Watson (who I think we are already targeting)

This is to total crap. Todd is not going anywhere.

Actually, he looked healthier last night than he has in a long time; Took a couple of viscous hits and popped right up.

Good list. Watson and Scheffler would be good pick-ups even though I think the Ravens still need to draft a TE.

It isn't total crap. Heap is a constant injury risk and he's making a lot of money. There's a realistic chance he won't be here next year.

Honestly I dont even see the point of signing a guy as athletic as Watson, Cam cant even let Heap go out for passes so what is Watson going to do.

Heap made some plays late in the season and Cam definitely tried to get him the ball. However, he doesn't have the speed to stretch the seam. Watson does.

While I agree, my point was more geared towards if they CANT let Heap attack the middle of the field I dont know what Watson will be able to do.

Great...MORE speculation. Tell me, does anyone have information from a reliable source that Heap won't be back next year? I'm not sure we know what we're talking about. Maybe we should start a forum about Flacco retiring lmao.

I love Heap and all for what he has done for this team but the time is now, we need someone to constantly make plays and help this somtimes struggling offense. Personally I would like to go after Daniels, Watson, Scheffler, or Fasano.

600 yards and 6 TDs isn't terrible production out of a tight end, especially with all the unbalanced formations and blocking Heap does. He improved from last year, and while I agree a paycut wouldnt be absurd, we're not going to find a TE in free agency better than Heap. We've got more issues to worry about than Todd Heap, and that is all four of our starting WRs are free agents.

I disagree. Paying thehm will be an issue but Tony Scheffler and Benjamin Watson are better receiving threats than Heap this point in their careers.

I wouldn't mind seeing Daniels or Watson being brought it, bought I would like to see Heap stick around for some depth. I mean how many balls did LJ catch this year!?! 2!?!

If you would rather pay a guy Jason Witten money to only have half the stats go ahead. Yeah Heap blocks more but if thats how they are going to mostly use him they need to pay him accordingly and not $4 mill a year. If he was still producing like he did in 02,03,05, and 06 then no argument from me, pay the man.

As much of a physical and athletic specimen Watson is, he just cant seem to put it together in NE. And if you cant figure it out with Brady throwing to you im not so sure youll figure it out with Flacco throwing to you. Scheffler I think is the guy the Ravens should target.

Good points. Watson never made the leap to a top-tier TE despite his athleticism. If he had, NE wouldn't consider letting him walk.

I agree about Scheffler. He's entering his prime. The only problem is other teams in need of weapons could throw a ton of money at him.

IF they think Big Sip can comeback healthy ( for blocking purposes), I'd be cool with letting go Heap for a faster YOUNGER TE. Though, not if we have to pay a crap load of coin for him.

If you're paying a TE purely on passing numbers then you're not looking at the big picture of what Todd Heap actually does for this team. He plays right tackle in unbalanced sets. I said i don't think it would be absurd to ask for a paycut, and i think that Heap doesn't want to go anywhere else so that is a solid option, but why let a guy who can still contribute to this team go, especially with the uncertainty at the WR position next year? Jason Witten had to block today, and his stats were down immediatly after Flozel went out of the game. In the steleers game, Heap only went out on 13 passing routes, out of 28 passing plays. Find me a TE who put up better numbers going on less routes, and you'll have an arguement.

But he's rarely healthy. Like I said, there's no guarantee he'll be back.

Rarely healthy? The guy has barely missed a snap in the past two seasons. None of his injuries kept him on the sideline. Heap takes his hits and he hasn't complained once. This is the kind of guy you want on a football team. I hope that we can get a good blocking TE so that we can get Heap more involved with the passing game next year.

Wait, are people honestly mentioning Scheffler and Watson as better options that Owen Daniels? Granted that he wont demand a ludicrous contract, he almost mimicked Heap's numbers in merely 8 games. He's still a young talent at 27, with only 4 Seasons under his belt, and has improved his numbers every single year. In all honesty, I would much rather have a consistent threat in the middle of the field, which would make our opponents' LBs to account for his presence, as opposed to just sitting on the dump offs to Ray Rice.

You all are crazy to think we could get Owen Daniels. No way the Texans let him go, he would've had another pro bowl season had he not gotten injured. I guarantee you they lock him up long term if they haven't already.

Heap is one of the best TE in this league. You cant find a free agent to match his overall ability. Heap is a good blocker and a great catcher. He sacrifices his body a lot for the Ravens when Flacco throws the ball up in air for him to go catch it. If anything, we need worry about our WR. We need to start putting more pressure on Cam Cameron's offense schemes and on Joe Flacco. Dont get me wrong I love Flacco but he needs to know how to read other teams defense schemes and be able to tell who is blitzing, who in the zone, and be able to know where his players at on the field.
