Let Flacco And Troy Smith Battle It Out In Training Camp

148 posts in this topic

does any1 else really wanna see what troy smith can do. u cant judge the guy now, especially when he barely plays. i wanna see him battle it out with joe flacco in training camp for many reasons.. i seriously think troy smith is more versatile quarterback than flacco, he has good awareness, strong arm. and he moves around alot. and i think he deserves a chance. i been saying for awhile now, i just dont see flacco being a future quarterback for our team. i cant im sorry.. i understand the whole thing with the recievers, but how many games have i been to where i have seen so many people wide open and he throws it into coverage. whats with the dump off passes to rice when theres 2 guys on him. get rid of it.. theres alot of stuff, and im sure alot of you can have ur says on this. and who wants to see what, and who to bring in. i understand all that. but does any1 else really wanna see troy smith to actually get the shot he deserves..

Not a chance. Smith will be playing elsewhere next year. Very few serious football analysts would agree with you. Smith's only chance to start will be with the CFL or UFL.

Smith showed in pre-season particularly against the Jets 2nd team that he has poor awareness. Flacco carved the Jets starters up. Smith has 1 thing on Flacco and its in the pocket, lateral mobility thats it.

Give me a freakin break. The last time Troy Smith was on the field, he threw a red zone INT against CHIGAGO...in garbage time. Troy Smith is nothing more than a backup QB, and the Ravens obviously have absolutely no intrest in keeping him. Troy wasn't even clearly better than BOLLER before he got sick last year.

Interesting stat: Joe Flacco has been the 5th most productive QB in NFL history through his first two seasons. 21 td's 12 int's 3500+ yds..not bad for his second season.

and to be honest, a healthy Flacco is pretty mobile. The guy just got beat up too much this year.

Joe has been playing hurt for the majority of this season. Troy has done nothing to warrant a "shot" at taking the job from Joe.... Troy wants out anyway, let him go and take a shot elsewhere.

I agree, but I think Smith has better lateral mobility. I just think its because hes smaller.

Give me Flacco anytime we finally have a QB who can see over the o-line and down the fiels Flacco is 6'6" plus he has one hell of an arm and if he is given time he has shown what he can do. He is the future for the Ravens, let s keep the same QB for awhile unless he proves himself wrong.

How can a city that has had SQUAT for a QB expect soo much out of a second year player with washed up has-beens/never will be's for WR's? Do you really think that many others of his experience level would do better, with the same players?

Hey, how many "big" games do MOST QB's play in the course of their first two seasons? On average, I'd say not many. The fact that he is getting there is really something to be happy about. With another season under his belt, and hopefully an even better supporting cast next year, he may be ready to take the next step and start WINNING those games

This is ridiculous Flacco had 3500 yards this year 63% completion percentage and over 20 TDs.. Sure we had a few less wins this year, but 5 or 6 we couldve won.

Dont throw the man under the bus because he had a few bad games this season, or even in this game. Last game you cant really count because we didnt need him.

Hes also in his SECOND YEAR! hes the best quarterback the ravens have ever had, and has the potential to be one of the best in the league in his time... Give the guy a break, get your depression out of losing, and look on to a successful offseason, and a fresh new year in August.

No one thought Kurt Warner would ever be a good NFL QB, and look what he did when he was given the chance. He went to 3 Super Bowls and won 1, and is most likely going into the HOF.

Kurt Warner was 28 when he got his chance to play a full season.

So what I'm saying is, if Smith is given a chance, he could surprise some people. But he hasn't been given a real chance, because he was sick, and we now have a QB.

Before you write someone off, give them a full chance.

You will notice that most people who place blame on Flacco don't really know much about the game.

:229031_rofl:

Listen FabFox. I know defeat hurts. But we got exposed today. It wasn't Flacco, he did what he could. Did you see him on the sideline yelling at Cam like WHAT ARE THESE PLAYS? The Colts are built to defend our team and our offensive game plan didn't adapt to that fact. Their secondary isn't great but they had the size to defend Mason, Clayton will NEVER get open because he'd much rather make ridiculous catches since he knows he'll drop easy ones, Demetrius just isn't mentally tough enough to be a real factor in this league, Washington is really only a nice option because the D forgets about him, and Rice is asked to do way too much. We needed to impose our will and we didn't... for a number of reasons but most of all because those guys had been resting for a month whereas we came off 6 days rest. Not only that but they had a HUGE chip on their shoulder that the number 1 seed doesn't normally have because of the way they ended their season. It sucks even more because nobody would've cared about 14-2 if the Patriots hadn't gone 16-0 a couple years ago... in fact I think if anybody other than Brady had gone 16-0 they wouldn't've cared either but the media loves inflating the "rivalry" between those 2.

Flacco is far and away the better QB, what do you mean "battle it out in training camp?"
That's what training camp is.. a battle. Clearly Flacco won this year, Troy has said it himself. He thinks he can start, he doesn't think he's better than Flacco, and neither should you. :th_snapoutofit:

We named Flacco our guy. That doesn't mean we throw him out after some tough outings. He still deserves time to see how he develops. Let's not forget two seasons ago he was throwing footballs in a division I-AA team.

This guy has proven through games that he has the ability to get it done. Now its just a matter of complying it all together.

Should the Falcons ditch Matt Ryan and give Chris Redman a shot?

He HAD a full chance. If he didn't get sick, who's to say that he was even going to win the starting job? He was in a neck and neck race with BOLLER and really, they BOTH looked terrible. Troy couldn't CLEARLY beat KYLE BOLLER for the job, so what makes you think that he could beat Joe for the job?

Lets not forget the FIVE drops the team had today! All were in BIG situations. Mase has even dropped his share of HUGE passes this season. Joe would have been25/35 for about 240 yards. It really pissed me off that Mason didnt even TRY to bat that ball down that was intercepted at the one yard line.

You get the point. Delaware doesn't stand out as a prestigious football school.
