Does Flacco Know How To Throw To Anyone Other Than Rice?

It seems to me that Flacco doesn't go through any progressions. Sure, Clayton, Washington and D.Will combined for 2 catches, but Flacco seems to look first at Rice as a dump-off. On the final drive, Indy was sitting on Rice out of the backfield, and even with his amazing skills, he can't consistently beat 2+ LBs in his face.

Mason will probably retire. Flacco needs a couple of quality recievers, and coaching to give him the confidence to go through his progressions. The OLine gave him time - he was only sacked once tonight...
I hate to bring this up, but in the past what hurt the Ravens in not being able to find that franchise QB up until Joe was two things, they never had good WRs, or even if they did, they never had time to throw it because of no offensive line and JO being the only good OL on the team back then. Ozzie and co are learning from the past to make sure Flacco doesn't get ruined like the other QBs. Young Offensive line to grow with Joe..... Check. Wide Reciever.... Not yet. So it seems Flacco has the time to throw, but theres nobody to throw to except Ray Rice and Mason. Just get him someone he can grow with and Flacco will be fine.

1. Flacco gets hit to much. He's got to get rid of the ball quickly. Did you see that nice little wall surrounding Manning all game? Flacco needs one of those before he can go threw a progression.

2. We've got 1 old guy who's not that fast but always finds a way to get open vs. single coverage but is not good enough to beat a double team. A guy who occasionally finds a way to get open and occasionally makes a very nice catch but is no existant. We've got a guy who has the speed to get open but his route running is sloppy, plays scared, and cant be trusted because his hands suck. And another guy who is good for a first down a game that burns all his energy dancing after he gets it. A special teams ace and a guy whose hands make mine look like Jerry Rice. Who is he supposed to throw the ball to?

But Flacco seriously needs to work on the deep ball

He needs to look at how Drew Brees throws it and not lob it and pray that they come down with it
This is true. Joe lofts it a lot more than he should. With his arm he can hit targets. The problem is he's being conditioned to not look for it b/c so often targets aren't coming free. It's a total shock when someone other than Mason or Rice is open.

Joe's got to work on quick release and decisive throws, no doubt. Give him someone to work with other than Mason at WR.

Put Chris Carr on offense, he's shown time and time again he knows how to catch a football. Fair catch rule applies on offense too right?

:34853_shakehead:

Then give him the same O-Line Brees got. The same receivers he's got. The same playbook he's got. Seriously that's just a dumb comment. Flacco is a top 3 QB when it comes to throwing the deep ball. Look at all the bombs he connected this year and last year. But he's no superman. If you don't give him time in the pocket, if your receivers can't separate, then it's hard to connect those balls.

All our receivers suck. Mason has been pretty much average since the 2nd half of the season and i don't even want him back the way he's been playing ever since. He's dropping balls like crazy, he's not getting open. Clayton is just Clayton, he'll end up with the Lions or something and then be out of the league in a couple years.

But hey, we made the playoffs with those sorry receivers, we would be stupid to bring in talented receivers that don't run a 4.9 and are 5'2 tall. Right, Ozzie?

wow after the 3rd quarter i just couldn't take it anymore. i just had to turn it off. our team has some really great talent but yet some things still never change. flacco has an arm that can throw but yet we still have a coach that just refuses to utilize that. hey lets try it, i mean the running game is great for a balanced offense but holy crap it can't be the entire dependency for it. had a good season but it definately ended too soon.

running the ball cuts down on turn overs, like in the pats game, why change what was working so well. Sometimes the pass just isnt there, Cam does let him throw, Flacco had numerous 300yard games, sometimes you just cant throw it.

Last year Flacco would only throw to Mason, the coaches told him to not throw it only to Mason but to throw it to every one, but now he only threw it to Rice

The O line is part of it. When you don't have time to look downfield, you must check it down. This is how Flacco bails himself out of sacks. That's why I've been complaining about the O Line. It doesn't pass block very well. Getting new receivers would help, but O Line has to pick it up, cuz I'm really tired of the offense being this conservative. Especially when you're down 17 in the 4th.

It's called being down 20-3 what else did you want him to do except for take his only chance left at going for the endzone
Maybe put at least 5 more yards on the ball so that it comes down in the end zone, the ball was tremendously underthrown, that's what he is saying.

Flacco's field needs to(and will) improve his field vision but the fact that he keyed on Mason and Rice this year was simply because they were the only two players that consistently got open. Kelley Washington got open too but for some reason, Cam didn't get him on the field more.

Experts praise QBs like Manning, Brady, Brees, Rivers etc. all the time. However, their weapons deserve more credit. They are the ones that get open and make it easier on their QBs.

Last year he only threw it to Mason because Mason was usually the only receiver open and teams didn't have any idea of how Flacco would act in a passing attack.

This year teams have smartened up to Flacco/Mason and double Mason all game... so he goes through his progressions only to realize Clayton is never open, D.Williams is never open, Washington isn't on the field unless it's third down and then there's Rice... hiding behind a defensive lineman tying his shoes and sipping a cappuccino.

Common. Football. Sense.

We all basically know what this team needs, so what do you guys think the best way of doing it is. We need a solid WR that gets open but can also go deep. Trade or draft? We also all know Ozzie hasn't had success drafting WR's.

I say management should address the receiver position in both FA and the draft. There will be a few solid #2 options like Kevin Walter and Lance Moore that could be available. And obviously there's a good amount of talent in the draft.

Staying with Flacco, think back to the play last night where Flacco scrambled around looking for someone to get open before finally throwing a pass to Ray Rice who broke upfield. It was eerily similar to last year's AFC 'chip against the Steelers where Joe had time to throw but simply couldn't find anyone.

Whats Stokley's contract status. Theres a guy we could use in the slot, give all kinds of problems to LBs and safeties.

He still has one year left on his contract.

I REALLY hope the Eagles let Jason Avant go. Other than deep speed, he has everything you want in a receiver.

Yep. Avant is the man. He makes tough grabs seemingly every game.

I know what you mean about possession receivers but beggars can't be choosers. I would love to have a Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne on the outside, DeSean Jackson in the slot and Antonio Gates at TE. But realistically, I just want receivers and TEs that can consistently move the chains and against good teams.

lol good point, we currently have 2 of those guys. Mason is going to retire most likely, and we only use Washington on 3rd downs when its obvious.

That's what I didn't get this year. Kelley established himself as clutch option and the receiver on the team in terms of getting YACs early in the season. Why Cam didn't make a better effort to get him the ball is beyond me.

Its mind boggling really, there was no effort whatsoever to attempt to confuse the opponents defense in what we were doing. Short curls, quick outs, slant from washington, double move from Mason, Clayton who knows what he was doing. Cam just wasnt very creative this year flat out.
