Does Flacco Know How To Throw To Anyone Other Than Rice?

53 posts in this topic

Man if mason isn't open he panics and checks down...but I don't wanna knock flacco but hopefully with maturity he will learn to go thru his progressions...

On the other hand, and this is a pretty weak argument on my part, but when you have a weapon like Ray Rice, how do you not give him the football?

Sure, it's predictable to key in on the same target every time -- but what about when Matt Schaub keys in on a guy like Andre Johnson? Or any other #1 receiver in the NFL? The only reason why this Rice debate is being had is because he's a RB and the passes are checkdowns. But if it's open, it's open. Blame the other receivers for not doing what Rice is doing in getting separation.

like seriously... there's other guys open look at them...

Who else is there? Mason often draws double coverage, Heap is usually helping the offensive line do their job, and Clayton is only good for a couple of games per season.

Put Chris Carr on offense, he's shown time and time again he knows how to catch a football. Fair catch rule applies on offense too right?

Fair catch doesnt count

If we had decent receivers instead of the trash we have now- then yes, he'd throw to people other than Rice. As of right now, the only people on our offense worth keeping is our offensive line, Flacco, McClain and our RB's. Everyone else needs to go.

Two things, fair catch on offense is called "defenseless receiver when Ray Lewis is about to kill you".

As for the OP who the hell is he supposed to throw to, NO ONE is open when they go bump coverage. We dont let Heap out of the backfield half the time (DUDE WAS A 2 TIME PRO BOWLER AND HAD 800 YARDS WITH MCNAIR, USE HIM!!) "because our line cant block a backside bandit on max protection"(name that movie lol). Really we had 3 weapons on offense, Mason, Heap, and Rice. We force feed Rice the ball, Mason is doubled, and Heap is blocking half the damn time. Who do you want him to throw to.

Exactly. Nobody is open. The only guy that I see get open is Demetrius Williams, and he doesn't get any reps.

Lack of pass rush has been our problem all season long. Flacco is so predictable its scary. There are only three targets he will throw the ball too Clayton, mason, and rice. Dwight Freeney told you everything the ravens where going to do in his interview on NFL.com and we didn't disappoint. Sad when the other team knows your game plan for this game. Booooo our coaching staff and players tonight that was embarrassing. I don't care how well their d played it was the lack of execution by our players and the overall bad coaching by our staff that won the colts the game. We addressed the need for speed in the off season at corner so we could match up against teams like the colts i guess we are still missing pieces. On the bright side ellerbe is a beast in the making and Joe needs alot of work this off season he stares his receivers down and doesn't go through his progressions. Things you should know by now if you intend on standing in the pocket.

And i agree we better do everything in our power to get a quality receiver this year. I don't care about character or any of the other BS harbaugh talks about when considering a player. We need someone like Brandon Marshall and we need him now he brings a swag to a dead offense. You have to have that if you want to win in the NFL. We get down by 14 and all the Ravens fans know .....game over we can't move the ball. Im tired of thinking like that its a shame we are so good at running but have no passing game.

Flacco makes another awful deep throw on the double move by Mason where he had nothing but Colt blue in front of him... what's wrong with him? He had no pressure and put nothing on the ball.

It's called being down 20-3 what else did you want him to do except for take his only chance left at going for the endzone

If someone other than Rice could catch a ball, he might throw to them. I am not one of those die hard Flacco fans, like my wife, but he doesnt have any decent receivers out there. At least none that I saw this season. If we had (as much as I hate to say it) Ocho-cinco to pass to, then I think you would see some serious long receptions.

Not that I am complaining. They made it to the playoffs, and they squashed the Pats. I would have loved to see them wipe Indy, but I guess we cant have it all. They did good over all, with a winning season. I will be watching them next season and swearing at my TV again.

I suspect that the answer will be "Not throw an interception," or something along those lines.

But Flacco seriously needs to work on the deep ball

He needs to look at how Drew Brees throws it and not lob it and pray that they come down with it

It seems to me that Flacco doesn't go through any progressions. Sure, Clayton, Washington and D.Will combined for 2 catches, but Flacco seems to look first at Rice as a dump-off. On the final drive, Indy was sitting on Rice out of the backfield, and even with his amazing skills, he can't consistently beat 2+ LBs in his face.

Mason will probably retire. Flacco needs a couple of quality recievers, and coaching to give him the confidence to go through his progressions. The OLine gave him time - he was only sacked once tonight...

Give Flacco some time. He has the arm, the intelligence and the poise. He does need some better receivers. I think Baltimore will like how flacco turns out.

No, I wasn't bashing the call, I was questioning why he under threw the ball by 10 yards!!!!!!!

He was hurried quite a bit and the receivers are not getting separation.

just because he was only sacked once doesn't mean that the O-line gave him time. Freeney completely dominated Gaither tonight, there weren't many sacks because Joe HAD to dump the ball off to Rice in order to avoid the sack
