Arizona Cardinals at New Orleans Saints - Game Thread

93 posts in this topic

I figured I'd start up a game thread for this game since there's bound to be a few people who'll wanna discuss...?

That first TD run by Tim Hightower on the first snap from scrimmage to start the game was eerily reminiscent of Ray Rice's run last week -- but Rice did it better.

I'm hoping to watch the Saints start out flat, so that it gives me confidence for our game. The Saints started off bad on defense, but they look pretty good on O.

The commentators alluded to last week's Cardinals-Packers game as setting NFL defenses back 10 years. The Cardinals' holes in the secondary to start this game, after Arizona taking an early lead, must have everyone back home in Phoenix sweating. Looks like an impending shootout between Kurt Warner and Drew Brees after all.

I have the funny feeling that Deuce McAllister, if he's dressed for this game, will put up points from the goal line, giving him one more moment in the spotlight in his waning career.

This game reminds me how much I hate FOX's NFL gameday presentation. the commentators are atrocioius, as are the graphics.

And WOW -- that fumble by Jerheme Urban was a HUGE momentum killer.

Arizona's DC is killing Arizona's defense right now. Hes putting Dansby in man coverage with Bush split wide, and with WRs. Hes also relying on Adrian Wilson to cover Shockey, and Wilson hasnt been a good man to man cover guy in about 4 years.

TD, Saints. Brees to Jeremy Shockey.

It's amazing how much time Brees has to throw; the Cardinals are playing soft right now, and it's amazing how much more efficient New Orleans looks compared to the last few weeks of the regular season.

Adrian Wilson comes from the Roy Williams school of defensive backs; they can tackle, but can't cover one-on-one worth crap.

WOW. The Cardinals look snake-bitten right now. That play looked ugly even before the hand-off, when Warner was selling the pass.

hahaha love the roy williams bomb. Shockey was the Saints X-factor for this game, Arizona has no safety that can cover him, Rolle isnt physical enough and Wilson is too brutal in coverage.

Shouldn't that have been a false start on the Cards? I saw Deuce Lutui (the guard) get up and shuffle his hands in a signal before getting back down again; I thought that, once you're set, you can't move?

The Superdome is really loud. When was the last time the Saints were in the playoffs?

06, lost to the Bears in the NFCCG, just another reason why I hate domes...the advantage is so ridiculous for home teams in the playoffs.

I'm surprised anyone even remembered Roy Williams the safety. -_-

Antrel Rolle isn't a bad corner, but you're right, he's not physical enough and doesn't match up well with these Saints receivers. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is a great young talent, but he looked lost in coverage last week (as did much of the Arizona secondary). And Wilson isn't as good as he's been in years past (not that his coverage skills were that great to begin with)

The Saints appear to have more speed on defense; something like six guys got to the receiver and wrapped him up before he could even take two steps after making the catch.

I see another defensive coaching change in Arizona if they lose this game. Perry Fewell's still a free agent -- maybe he's interested in heading to a warmer climate and getting out of the state of New York?

Anyone else feel like this is like watching a college game.
[/quote]
I agree with you. The lack of defense in this game (well, mainly by Arizona) is ridiculous. It doesn't help that the Louisiana Superdome is also home to the Sugar Bowl. And FOX's crappy HD feed only makes matters worse.

I feel no excitement watching this game whatsoever. This doesn't even feel like a playoff game. Even the Jets-Bengals game gave me more of an excited buzz.
