Asante Samuels To The Ravens?

64 posts in this topic

I'm sorry but you guys saying here that you would rather re-sign Landry over singing Samuel are crazy.

Landry has been getting smoked in coverage a ton this year.

Maybe your thinking of his brother on the skins because he certainly has not been getting smoked and in fact is the ONLY starting member of our secondary to play every game. He is also a much better player mentally then Asante which is why Landry plays SS - Oh and he lays hits like a bulldozer. Asante is in his 5th year and this is Landry's 2nd

You will notice that even though Landry has no INTs this year (he has hands like Ray) he has 5 his rookie year where as it took Samuel his first 3 years to rack up 6. Landry has double the tackles if you compare their first 2 years and the same amount this year with 60+ tackles.

Samuel is just coming into his own these past 2 years and Landry already has the swagger of a seasoned vet. So yeah RE-SIGN the phenom

*edit Just a side note - Landry has twice the amount of tackles that Ed Reed has.

Landry has been burned a ton this year.

It seems like someone catches a TD on him once a game.

I would easily take the All Pro CB over a SS.

That makes sense since Landry plays Strong while Reed plays Free. The play shouldn't usually get to Reed.

I never said make him second string, I was asking for opinions. Personally I think Asante is equal to Rolle in talent and only has him beat on age - he certainly is not better than McCallister, Reed, or Landry - But if the 5 of them graced the field at the same time it would be like an interception circus.

I did that on Madden once, it was pretty sick. I just played nickel all the time and tackled stuff with Ray while they intercepted everything.

Not that Madden serves as evidence that it will work in real life, but hey, I can pretend.

im betting not....our top/main priority right now is getting the play-makers we already have re-signed...only then will we turn our focus elsewhere to the other available players.

We have many options other than Samuel at CB if we want to pick up a Free Agent. Drayton Florence from the chargers abd Marcus Trufant from the Seahawks are also UFA. In addition DeAngelo Hall and Pacman Jones are likely to be traded (although I would prefer not to pick up either of those 2). Of these 5 corners, and the depth of the position in the draft, we could easily pick up Tufant or Florence due to so much supply. Marcus Trufant would be my top choice. Nice attitude, excellent player, and not nearly as expensive as Samuel will be.

One of the Bears CB's make go on the block or be cut to. Vasher or Tillman or both are due for new contracts either this offseason or next, if they havent already been offered an extenstion. The Bears are in a similar situation to ours. If both of them are up for new deals, they wont be able to keep them both.

The Orioles are rebuilding, the Ravens are patching holes. Theres a huge difference.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I like most of our talent and don't think drafting will be the final answer (although I'd love me some CB or LB) soooo I don't think we really need our picks. Our offense is set, except for QB (obv), and we need to address the Suggs resigning and get better corners, maybe a LB, and thats it. All of our draft picks are not necessary for that.

Now you want us to turn into the Deadskins and Raiders. Last year the Redskins had what 5 draft picks because they traded them all away for veteran guys who are almost done. If we need to patch holes, we need to go ahead and start building for the future. Trading all our draft picks away is not going to do that.

Landry has been getting smoked in coverage a ton this year.

He is also still young and has not reached his full potential. Besides, he cant cover his guy and the guy that Derrick Martin or David Pittman is supposed to be covering to.

Landry may get burned as often as McCallister or Reed does. I would rather keep him and save cap room than overpay an ego like Samuel. Landry will be All Pro and his name will be more recognized than Polamalu mark my words. Besides who else would you put at SS? Martin and Pittman are not that bad either they just need some work. They both have the speed to cover almost any WR they just lack NFL knowledge, Pittman is just a little to aggresive in his coverage and bites on jukes too hard but that can be corrected. I'm also excited to see what Gaston can do for us espescially against the seahawks and squealers. Undrafted players can sometimes be diamonds in the rough because they take nothing for granted.

He will also be out to impress because this is a make or break game for him. Guys like Gaston dont get a shot often and he has to prove a lot in a short amount of time, if he wants someone to give him another opportunity in the future.

Rebuilding for the future is more than just a patch fix (which is what I think we need- I think rebuilding next year is an awful idea). I think our disagreement may stem from our expectations of where the team can go next year, but I don't care to argue that now. Also, I'm not advocating we trade away all our picks, I just don't think we need em all. I feel that last year the Redskins thought they were in a shot to make a run for the playoffs this year and they wanted veteran talent to do that. I'm sure it made sense at the time.

Dude do you not realize that they have already started. They might as well go ahead and finish. You dont have to give up all hope on the season that you are rebuilding but they shouldnt trade away any more picks to do a "patch fix". We already gave up one for McGahee, we do need the rest of them.

I really have no idea what youre saying. Started what? Finish what? Are you talking about the season? What does that have to do with the draft? I didn't really understand what you were saying in your other post either.

Kniwing Billichek, we'll sign him for 1 years, and then he'll go back to the Pats to tell them our defensive scheme

Billick is not the one who signs player to deals - it's Newsome. Billick is only the head coack - Newsome is the GM & makes all player acquisitions including lengths of deals.

we are in the process of Re-signing our Top priorities at this point in time....and re-signing all of our play makers both on the offensive side of the football as well as the Defense side of the football.....THEN we'll focus on the other players out there who are available.
