Asante Samuels To The Ravens?

lets try to Re-sign the Good Players that we already have on this team before we start talking about signing anyone else..Laundry has been a Force in his own way for this defense and our scheme and what we're trying to do with it....so lets focus on getting those kinds of things done and out of the way FIRST then focs more so on the other stuff

I agree, we need to re-sign Landry and Suggs first before lookin into Asante, but that would be a sweet offseason pick up - he is my favorite player on the Pats. If we do sign him - do we second string him or bench someone else?

re-signing our player makers FIRST should always be our top priority then after we get that out of the way, we can focus on signing else where.

I was thinking the same thing but Samuals was asking for 10 million a year, he isnt going to get that from the Pats and I wouldnt expect him to take his asking price down to come to Baltimore. For us to afford to get him and keep Suggs, there are to many things to do. McNair and Ogden would have to go. Ray would have to take a pay cut, which he probably will do. And we would have to cut or trade Rolle or Scott, more likely Rolle but I wouldnt be mad if they decided to get rid of Scott. And then have the money to possibly upgrade our WR core and sign our rookies. It would be nice but I dont see it happening. I would rather take that money and go after Larry Fitzgerald, if he doesnt resign with Arizona.

Landry still has a year left on his rookie deal. Just because he wants a new contract doesnt mean he is going to get one. We still have at least two years before we have to sign him long term. He is under contract for next season and the season after that he is a restricted free agent, which means we can tender him for a first round pick and still keep him for cheaper then his asking price, which is probably around 3 million, because I doubt anyone is going to give up a 1st round pick for him. Then we can either resign him then or we can let him play on the restricted free agent tender and resign him when that season is done.

Regarding cap room, I heard on the radio last night that going into next year, the Ravens are the second highest team over the cap. The first being the Redskins.

i think scott's just having a bad season, but he brings emotion to the defense, so i would keep him and trade rolle (if possible )for vilma.

i think all of the players on the Ravens are having a bad season....in a matter of speaking....But it will be how the teams actions to which will depict how they will react/come off of this kind of season.

Madden 08 isnt accurate. Some of the players salary's are smaller then they actually are.

I never said make him second string, I was asking for opinions. Personally I think Asante is equal to Rolle in talent and only has him beat on age - he certainly is not better than McCallister, Reed, or Landry - But if the 5 of them graced the field at the same time it would be like an interception circus.

Not neccessarily. Some players can opt out of the last years of their contract. I dont know if we have any players with that option though.

I dont know that Rolle is better then or as good as Samual. Maybe in his prime but Samual is the better guy now.

We have many options other than Samuel at CB if we want to pick up a Free Agent. Drayton Florence from the chargers abd Marcus Trufant from the Seahawks are also UFA. In addition DeAngelo Hall and Pacman Jones are likely to be traded (although I would prefer not to pick up either of those 2). Of these 5 corners, and the depth of the position in the draft, we could easily pick up Tufant or Florence due to so much supply. Marcus Trufant would be my top choice. Nice attitude, excellent player, and not nearly as expensive as Samuel will be.

Then he started publicly complaining when the team fined him for it. Publicly insulted the coach (although history has vindicated him for that one). Not. Worth. The. Trouble.

The Orioles are rebuilding, the Ravens are patching holes. Theres a huge difference.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I like most of our talent and don't think drafting will be the final answer (although I'd love me some CB or LB) soooo I don't think we really need our picks. Our offense is set, except for QB (obv), and we need to address the Suggs resigning and get better corners, maybe a LB, and thats it. All of our draft picks are not necessary for that.
