Let The Colts Have The Name

18 posts in this topic

I'm on a mission. I say let's get rid of some bad vibes. I have this theory that part of the reason why the Colts have own us is because we as the 12th man have not fully embraced the Ravens (ok 18 is part of it). We keep holding on to the past. I say forget the past. Let them have the name, the history, the records. They can have it all. I want us to get completing behind the Baltimore RAVENS. I say we started a brand new history book when the Ravens came to Baltimore. Let's not ask the Ravens to make things right by trying to avenge a wrong. Let's just ask them to win on Saturday because we as Ravens fans just want them to win for them and Batlimore Let's continue adding new chapters to the ONLY football team this town cares about. THE RAVENS ARE MY TEAM AND I'M NOT LOOKING BACK!!!

NOTE: I take the W...I care less about the name.

I agree. I think for the most part people have fully embraced the Ravens, but the Colts still carry that stigma. If the Ravens win this game, I think that stigma will be gone and the City will be able to finally move on.

I will be happy when the records in the HOF prior to 1984 are attributed to BALTIMORE, that being said I let go of the hate in 2007, but please don't tell anyone to get over it people heal at different rates. I will never tell a Browns to do the same either. The Baltimore fans did not fire the first volley this time, some idiot Indy Star "journalist" did.
I have a theory its silly and stupid and a bit tongue in cheek, but all the bad juju and hate from the 2006 season doomed us in the play offs to the football gods. This year the Irsay's have already tweaked the football gods with the sitting of the starters and playing for stats against the Bills and the fans hate and animosity-- see where I'm going with this?...........Joe is feeling better, Ray and Co look amazing perfect storm for a beatdown or I would gladly have a 1 point win.

Yeah, all of that hate building up to the 2006 playoff game only made that loss sting that much worse. Sometimes I really think that the Indy keeps the hate going just as much as we do here

I agree. I'm not asking fans to "get over it". I can understand where it all comes from. I just love the team we have now and I want them to "feel the love as they prepare for this weekend".

XD What do Browns fans have to heal from? They went a couple years without a team, because they weren't supporting their team. Plus, they kept their records, name, and colors.

Anyway, I don't believe in juju or football gods, so I say the reason we've been losing is because they've simply had the better team than we have since 2001. No shame in that, the Colts have been one of the best teams of the decade.

OOH you have never run into the Browns fans on the OBR--just wow. If the were all like Browns Fan here, who is a friend, they would be awesome.

It is true that bad energy can do some damage.
The problem is, that as a city, and as long time loyal Batimore Colt fans we were totally disguarded by the Irsays and the NFL for YEARS. It was painful. When you grow up with the horseshoe and blue and white logos and then see it on another city's team,it still makes me boil. When you get hurt like that, it is hard to let it go. You know how it is, everyone has been through getting dumped,it's the same feeling...
The Browns fans have nothing on us, in fact, they are pretty obnoxious about preventing Art Modell from getting into the Hall of Fame because he moved their team here. He is one of the founders of modern football and deserves the honor. Cleveland still got to keep their logo and colors and we were treated like dirt.
Now it is 2010 and I am more than happy that Purple Power is all over the place and little kids get to grow up with Ravens gear.
We will win Sat because the Colts are beatable, we should have beat them earlier this year, and if we play smart Raven football we will go all the way!! :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens: :baltimore-ravens:

I was 2 when the Colts left and still I was bestowed my family's anger when they left. I am and have been and avid Raven's fan but I always had that bitter part of me that would focus on despising the traitors. Well no more of that for me. No matter what transpired, how it happened, or who's to blame, I wouldn't be a fan of the greatest NFL team if things didn't happen the way that they did. It's no excuse for what happened when they left. But especially after the NE game and all of that intensity the team had, I figured it was time to hang that bitter horse collar up and focus my nfl time and energy on cheering for the Ravens even more than I already do. Thankyou God for allowing things to happen the way they did and thankyou for the Ravens.

Took me a bit longer, but I totally agree. I won't be completely happy until they acknowledge that the records of Unitas and gang are from the BALTIMORE Colts, but I don't really feel any animosity towards any current Colts. Many times when watching a football show and they talk about the old stats, they do generally acknowledge that they are from when the team was the Baltimore Colts, so the sting isn't as bad as it could be, but I'd be happier if the HOF acknowledged the same thing.

It does also bother me some when someone makes it sound like much more terrible things were done to the Browns fans, even though they were able to keep their name, colors and stats. I truly feel their pain with not having a team for a few years, but they do now, and it's a continuation of the team they loved, not a new identity.

Not that I don't adore Baltimore's new identity with the Ravens. Like they say, I bleed purple now. Doesn't mean Unitas isn't still in my heart.

Yeah, even though I still felt it then, I knew nothing good was going to come from all the hate. I'm glad I've let it go.

I recently met a Brown's fan on another site not releated to football. We were chatting about something else when football came up and that is when we realized I was a Raven and she was a Brown's fan. We had a great chat though. What we found out is that we had one big thing in common- we both wanted to take down the Steelers! Then the Browns flogged Steelers and I sent her a congrats message.
Sometimes there is common ground.

It maybe a blessing for you being so young when the colts sneeked out of town. Many of us old timers, remember supporting the colts at Memorial stadium, hating Howard Cosell, and passionate enough to be members of the Colts Corral (forerunner of the Ravens Roost). Morally the Baltimore Colts belonged to the fans of this state that supported them, and people like me that have fond memories of them. I probably could get over the hump if the name and records were retired, much like the Houston Oilers. That will never happen as well as my dispise of this teams name, logo, and theft of Baltimore history. I don't beleive in curses or negative energy and truly support the Ravens, I like our chances of winning this upcoming game, and for me if we do, it will be like having cake and ice cream.

out with the old in with the new. its a brand new decade. these peyton mannings and tom brady's etc... had there time for the last 10 years. its time for someone else to step in. we are still a young franchise, but yet we won a superbowl been to the playoff's numerous times, and the colts have wacked the last 7 times. its time to start 2010 off with a bang. we beat the pats that curse is over. next the colts.

Im all for letting go of anger and such, but do not feel like we should forget what the Baltimore Colts did, or act like it was in Indy and not here. Unitas was one of the best players in Football history, do you think he would want to be remembered playing for a team he never played for? Do you think people here who loved the Baltimore Colts would enjoy knowning that all the records and memories are no longer their's, but over in Indiannapolis?

I for one don't believe in juju or whatever it is, but even if its real I would take that over loosing something that was mine. Thats my history, thats all of our history, and you guys are willing to give it up just because it may or may not help us win. What if in a few years we lost the Ravens? 30 years later would you be willing to give up their records?

Thats a part of Baltimore history, a part of the people here's history. Unitas is no longer alive anymore but I would be willing to guess he wouldn't be for sending all the records and such over to Indy. Some things in life hold more value then winning, some things make you a better person instead of just going for the win. The Indy fans didn't sweat through the games, we did, don't ever just give up something thats yours

Mods, can you exterminate this weasel?

Funky141, Bob Irsay's despicible, deceitful, alcoholic ways weren't healthy either. Why don't you "Colts" fans ever want to talk about that instead of your usual "letting it go" speech ad nausieum

Johnny U, like almost every single BALTIMORE Colt wanted nothing to do with the city of Indanapolis.

I just have this weird feeling that the Colts point fingers at us and say "We use to be you, but at the end of the day we are better then you."
