Espn: Ravens Playcaller

27 posts in this topic

Maybe I'm behind in the times but check this out:

Hey, Baltimore fans, this might make you spit out your crab cakes.

You realize who's been calling the first play of Ravens' games lately? Like the one that went for an 83-yard touchdown against the Patriots?

If you said head coach John Harbaugh, you'd be wrong.

Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron? Wrong again.

QB Joe Flacco? Strike three.

The guy who's been calling the first play lately isn't a guy at all. It's a 14-year-old Baltimore kid. His name is Matthew Costello, he's got an inoperable brain tumor and he's on a lucky streak.

Is this news to anyone else? O.o

Love that story, love this kid. Great read. Made my day.

It's these types of inspirational stories that remind me of the joy that football brings to people's lives. It also reminds me that there's more to life than football. I wish we heard more of these kinds of stories about the guys we cheer for on Sundays, both on the sidelines and on the field.

I hope James calls a flea-flicker bomb to D-mase for the opening play this week so all the Flacco haters can eat their words.

Fantastic story though. I hope James pulls out of his sickness one day so he can eventually make his way to the Ravens coaching staff.

Mason, not flea flicker bomb material IMO. Give it to someone who still has wheels left!

I don't care who knows it - I cried when I read the article. That experience is something he'll have for a lifetime.

Man, I sure am glad we have the coaching staff we have. After listening to recent interviews with Mattison, watching Harb's Mic'd Up segment on NFL.com and reading this about Cam... I'm even happier than ever we have the staff we have.

That is so awesome!
He must have gone nuts when Ray ran 83 yards on his call!!
I hope he will fully recover and call the first plays for many years to come.
I just love our team.

Let's see what he can do this week.

I know if you ask most Ravens fans what the first play should be. It will include a lateral, reverse, Joe Flacco, Troy Smith, a pair of pliers, a rubber duck and the kitchen sink.

None of us would want to call a vanilla run on the first play.

Beautiful story, and it reminds me of my past experience. I'm a cancer survivor, with non Hodgekin large cell lymphoma cancer. I survived till today, got married, but haven't had kids yet :). This kid will also survive like I do and will continue with his life. Hope the best for him.

PS: I'm a new fan of Ravens. Through years, I haven't root for any team and I don't know why although I have lived in Baltimore and just bought a house in Frederick. Just beginning of this year, I started rooting for the Ravens. They bring me joy, ups and downs memories with their kind and positive personalities. I love this team.

Yeah, I hope Cam has a play saved up from this guy for when we need it. :D
