Start Troy Smith Petition

110 posts in this topic

seems like im only repeating myself on here but here goes...

there's no doubt in my mind that Troy will start soon....next season would be the most logical....seeing how this season is virtually over and having Troy come in during the 3rd quarter...seems to be the only real option to go with at this point in time because it allows him the chance to sit back and watch the other Quarterbacks go at it...then he'll have the chance to go in and proove what he's just watched/learned from.....

Yes Start Smith by all means (im a ohio State Fan as well as Maryland) and Troy is a winner for sure and his collegiate record and overall performance speaks for itself but i still believe he is a Rookie...still learning the game....so allowing him to watch for at least 2 quarters and Then bring him in and show everyone what he's got...seems to be the most logical option to go with in my oppinon....

Knowing Billick, he'll put Smith in with 3 minutes left in the 4th

It's official, Kyle Boller is starting. To the defense: try to get boller injured if you can, I'll work on stealing his equipment :P JK

But Billick, I swear, if we lose.....

just as i expected...Boller will start.....but i wouldnt be surprised to see Troy Come in in the 3rd quarter or early in the 4th so we can take a deeper look as to what we have in him and what he's learned so far this season and what he needs to work on......

Honey, it doesnt matter who is at QB. If our players dont play like they want to win or show some discipline, we wont win. Sunday night they didnt even look like they were trying.

i agree....in order for us to Win games...we must show heart and passion in which last week there was some, but not as much as we needed to build off of and use as motivation.

lol maybe that was one of the postives about it...but i doubt anyone took that much notice of it....because they were focusing on the bad points more so than the good.

If we dont win the Miami game....i might get my name called from 'the list' as early as next year. Lol.

I am NOT hoping for that.

on a side note, anyone who was ever on 'the list' about how long did it take you to get called, if you've been called yet. and if so, where were(number) you on said list when you first got on?

Ray had said before the game last week that he knew that they were probably Not going to be able to muster as much energy and intensity as they had in the Patriots game...but they would certianly try....before the game...Ray gathered the team in a Circle and they held hands and had their heads all bowed and were saying a little prayer.

Look at Boller: Banged up, throws INTS, looses fumbles, etc.

Now look at Troy Smith: 2/3 (that pass was just a little too far), 1 rushing TD in less than two and a half minutes.

Finally look at our record: 4-9, and no playoff hopes at all this season

Who do you think should start? We are playing Miami, and if we don't start Troy Smith, we'll most likely be a laughing stock. See what Smith can do, the season is ALREADY OVER.

To Brian Billick:

If you are reading this, go home, and look at the stat sheet!!!!!! Smith should start, he's an excellent QB, and is very good at scrambling. Please, if we are down 30-7, don't just put hope in Boller, let Troy put hope in US!!!

YES LAWD please start him!!!!

If i start a petition for Billick to start troy in the last 2 games or even switch up Boller and troy kind of like what KC did with McCown and Buldger, I would e-mail it around and when we get x amount of signatures someone should e-mail it to Billick and the Baltimore sun. I am willing to start it just give me some suggestions about what it should say and everyones e-mail so that it can be sent on. Do you think 1000 signatures is enough?

True, he's not used to the NFL that much, so let him see the Dolphins D (there pretty much is no D in Dolphins), so he knows what to do.

My plan: Start Boller if you have to, but Troy comes in if Kyle stinks it up and makes the Olphins look like SuperStars

I have followed Troy Smith since he was at Ohio State, and I'm not surprised at what I saw. He is a mobile, undersized quarterback with a rocket arm. People gave him him no chance at Ohio state and he won the Heisman. Steve McNair has reached the end of his career and its time to give up on Boller. Obviously they are eliminated from the playoffs, they play one of the worst teams in the history of the NFL next week, its time to give him a chance. I'm not a big fan of throwing a rookie QB into the fire, but they only have three games left. I know that if given the chance, Troy Smith can become the QB the Ravens have been looking for all these years.

Troy was the last guy Tressel signed with the class of '02. He was signed for his overall atletic abiltiy and to be a kick retuner. Justin Zwick was the most highly recruited QB in the country when OSU signed him and Troy managed to beat him out of the starting job when Zwick got injured. He lost only two games in which he started and put up amazing numbers to win the Heisman. As far as his height, he manged to throw over guys like 6-4 Texas defensive end Tim Crowder all during his career. He is intelligent, a natural born leader, humble in victory and defeat and always represented tOSU, the city of Columbus and the state of Ohio in the most positive way possible. He will do the same for the Ravens and Baltimore. I have been a Buckeye fan for over 40 years, and hands down, Troy Smith is my favorite one. Given the chance he will no doubt be Ravens fans favorite someday too.

Go Troy!

Signed, a new Ravens fan!

Those stats can be misleading though. OSU had a cupcake season last year so the stats blew up. Being a pocket passer in the NFL is different than college now that ALL of his linemen are taller than him and he has a giant D-line in his face - makes it hard to see downfield. Again, not to take anything from Troy but he just hasn't proved himself yet in the NFL. Everyone sees Troy get a TD and they immediatley want him in. Everyone thought Boller was an answer but as last game showed us he is the same ol Boller - Amazing QB one game and horrible the next. Lets take it slow with Troy - No need to feed him to the dogs when we have 3/4 year to get him ready for next year. If McNair is healthy next year he will start.

It's October 16, 2004. Ohio States season is all but lost. Justin Zwick, Jim Tressels first ever recruit has played horrible the whole season. Suddenly Justin Zwick gets hit and seperates his shoulder, who steps in? Troy Smith, the last player Jim Tressel signed that year. A guy who everyone said was too short, or just wasn't a good enough QB. Out of nowhere stars emerged. Ted Ginn score his first touchdown the first time Troy Smith started. Antonio Pittman emerged. Suddenly the guy that everyone had doubted was winning the Heisman. Is it all because of his natural talent? No, players want to play for Troy Smith, he has that special thing about him. He always pulled through for the Buckeyes, he had one bad game, and everyone is against him again. And to say that he now has linemen taller than him, last year he had two linemn who were 6'8".

i don't think there's any doubt that boller was on a short leash to begin with. i'm with those who are saying to start boller against the dolphins ( which we have learned that they are ) and play troy in the 2nd half if boller is anything less than mediocre. troy smith has been a winner up until this point so what reasons do we have to think he can't win in the NFL? there's only one way to find out.

agreed. people are trying to say all this and that about how Troy will probably not be a good player in the NFL and all that kind of BS, basing their predictions off of what?????? not even a full game????? and basing their predictions about him even before he has a FULL understanding/grasp of what is going on and can execute that fact on a consistant level.......THIS IS HIS ROOKIE season....that being said He is expected to MAKE mistakes. its a way of life for a rookie still learning the game and stuff. The Difference will Of How Troy will be able to Take his mistakes, analyze them. break them down, and learn from them, enabling him to become a better all-round kind of player.

Uhhh, cupcake season? They had to play teams that were ranked #2 in the country 3 times and went 2 and 1. Hardly call that cupcake...

I can understand your assessment of wanting to take it slow with Troy, but watching him play for three years, he does some of his best work under pressure.
