You are leaving out one BIG factor. He did it against backups with a first string offense around him. If he doesnt do well in that situation, either the Colts have great depth and their backup should be starters or our offense all need to be backups. Maybe, I interpreted you wrong but in your statement exists a huge contradition.

personally i have no gosh darn clue as to why people are saying that Troy will not be a good player because he's a heisman winner

You Cannot Base a Certain Players Future Performance off of what he's done in the past. so people should NOT jump to conclusions

Your saying that we should think he will be a good player due to him winning the heisman but we shouldnt judge him based on his past failures. You can not have it both ways.

Anyway, my position on Smith has nothing to do with his play. His physical size is not good enough for me. If you look at the top 10 QB's in the league 9 of them are 2 or 3 inches, most 5 or 6 inches, above 6 feet. There is only one exception and thats Drew Brees. So statistically speaking, Smith has a 1 and 10 shot at being a decent QB in this league. That doesnt say much.

Ever hear of a fine QB a few years ago? Doug Flutie. He wasn't as tall as Troy Smith and he did well for himself.

whether it be the Odds or his collegiate numbers...."Numbers".....cannot say a dang thing about how a player will perform in the NFL...and Troy is Trying/Practicing VERY hard to get better and better and itts paying off for him. (his performance last week for the 1 drive he was in..was great for a Rookie, still learning.

Trying your best may not Translate into Wins right away BUT it puts players into the Mindset of doing so and performing well and playing with everything they have.

Hmm...John Madden stating the obvious? I hate Madden he is so annoying. Lets take a look at why.....

Madden-isms

"If the quarterback throws the ball past the first down marker, then thats a first down"

"if the Wide Receiver catches the ball in the end-zone , Its usually a tuchdown."

and my personal favorite from Head Coach "The less rules a coach has, the less rules there are for the players to break"

Don't you just love to hate John Madden. The NFL should get the college football announcers...they are WAY better.

"Hello this is Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso bringing you another exciting Monday Night Football Game"

we all need to stop jumping to conclusions about Troy......we have absolutely NO Clue what so ever...so to say that Troy is not the Future.;....is totally insane to think...considering he is doing every damn thing possible to improve his game and help this team out when they need him.

Thats one example out of hundreds that fail. Like I said the odds are against him. I am a believe it when I see it type of person and right now its not in front of my face and I dont believe Ravens fans should go crazy about Troy Smith being the future of this team because there is a better chance that he is not. Thats all I am saying.

Yeah, so I guess Kyle Boller is a future hall of famer. Boller has given his all to this team, every down EVERY PLAY and he has yet to be the guy. Sorry but heart is not all it takes to win and be a good QB. I will just go ahead and say what I really want to.

I dont think Troy Smith will develop well under Brian Billick, there. I was trying to avoid it because I know Billick is a sensative topic on these boards but give me one example of QB developing correctly under Billick IN Baltimore? I'll wait.

Well, that will make it sweater for you IF he proves us wrong.

We are not critizing him, we are just being realistic. I dont see anything wrong with not getting your hopes up to high for a player that fell to almost the 6th round. He fell that far a reason. For every Tom Brady, Derek Anderson, or Donald Driver there are 100's of players in those final rounds that have not worked out and its more likely that it wont. To be honest if he wasnt the Heisman winner some of you Troy Smith lovers wouldnt be so gunho and excited about him. Its his name more then anything that makes it nice to believe that he is the future of this team. Well I am a realist and I will believe it when I see. Like I said I would be more then happy not to judge him, if there were not so many posts praising for what is ,in my opinion, nothing.

All this bickering over Troy. haha.

There are people excited about the prospects of Troy. It's not based on performance, it's based on potential.

There are people staying grounded about Troy. It's not based on performance, it's based on averages.

Troy Smith had the potential to develop into a fine quarterback in this league. This is based on his ability to avoid pressure and create extra time for a play to develop. This is based on his strong arm. This is based on his mentality that he's not a running QB first, he's a passing QB first, and his legs can be used to get him out of trouble -- AS A LAST RESORT. The alternative to that being: Michael Vick.

Troy Smith has the odds against him. For every short statured QB that has success (Flutie, Drew Brees, etc.) there are tens, maybe hundreds that do not find success. Yes there are exceptions to the rule that a QB is generally taller than 6 feet. But just because it worked for Doug Flutie doesn't mean it will work for every short Heisman winning QB.

Lets leave it at that. Unless I've forgotten about important points that seem to continually be argued.
