Phil Simms

16 posts in this topic

The game against the Colts is on CBS again this Sat. I am hoping Phil Simms will not be calling the game.
He might have been a descent QB, but is the worst at broadcasting. We rocked the house yesterday and again, all anybody could say was how sad it was for the Pats and their "dynasty".
Let's get some props on the national level for a change - we deserve it. :baltimore-ravens:

Greg Gumble and Dan Dierdorf will call this one if Jim and Phil don't. They're a lot better than Jim and Phil IMO, although Jim and Phil aren't all that bad. I wonder if they'll continue calling postseason games? With the Pat out, who knows? They might quit (lol, just kidding).

...I dunno...I get a bit of peverse joy out of watching the "network experts" explain why our team can't win...and then after the game explaining why they DID win. :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

I say, keep it like it is...let everyone second guess the Ravens and take them for granted.

I hope Simms does call it. I nearly laughed myself silly when he spent a good five minutes talking about how Brady was the master of control, taking his time, and choosing his targets only to eat his words when Brady threw a pick.

So by all means, Phil, come put the kibosh on Peyton. Simms is such a quarterback kiss-up it's hilarious.

Simms usually does a good job, IMO, but this past weekend's game was uncharacteristically bad. Jim Nantz was a bit off, too, as he didn't have much material to cover with so much dead air, given that the Patriots were unexpectedly routed and there wasn't much to say other than that.

It's hard for commentators to keep the game interesting, and they were understandably hoping for New England to make the game closer so as to make their jobs easier. But, as in the case of all blowouts, when all you can do is compliment one team while chastising the other for their play, it makes for a pretty boring broadcast.

That's the main reason why I never bothered to get in the broadcast booth -- it's a lot harder than it looks to do it and do it well.

The reason they had no material to cover dead air was they did no research on the Ravens, it was totally one sided and hilarious.

You aren't the only one. I couldn't wait for the half time report to watch half of them half to eat their words. Nothing is better then proving them wrong.

I felt so sorry for Gruden and co. during the Ravens @ Browns Monday night game. There was absolutely nothing to talk about.

By the way, my favorite Phil Simms-ism of the first half. Ed Reed, one of the top two or three interception return guys of this generation, nearly gets his hands on the ball. Jim Nantz says that if Reed could have pulled in the ball, "you know where he was headed."

Simms asked, sincerely, "Where's that?"

You know it's sucks. When we lose its for them its:

The Beginning of something special
The Start of a run
How they proved they are contenders

When we win its (Once again for the other team)

"The End of a Dynasty"
"How important was that missing player"
"How long did you think the run was going to last"

Its never how good the Ravens played, or how strong the Ravens looked, this could be the beginning of something special FOR THE RAVENS.

Do you guys know what I mean?

yup...its part of the fun of being a Ravens Fan! I listened to them talk up Welker and how it would "affect what the Patriots wanted to do"...but it never seemes to get mentioned that Edelman did a decent job...and that it didn't matter anyway.

So the game is on CBS and not Fox? I was almost hoping we got Brian Billick, seeing as he knows about the Ravens. Some more insightful commentary would be good at this stage of the season!
