Not really. The defense is playing a lot better (16.7 PPG allowed) and the offense is playing better as well. Norv's playcalling is much better and so is Ron Rivera's. The O and D-lines were a mess due to injuries back then.

The Charger team you saw in Week 2 doesn't begin to compare with the team now.

They lost to the Bills at home, got swept by the Dolphins after talking lots of trash, and lost to the Falcons after Atlanta was just eliminated from playoff contention. And through it all, they managed to make it in by virtue of the Colts laying down and the Bengals playing half-hearted the first time around. Though their wins are wins nonetheless, their second victory over the Bengals does nothing to justify their spot in my eyes -- but that's just me.
All with a rookie QB and first-time head coach.

As for the Colts laying down, why should the Jets be punished for something that wasn't in their control? All they could do was go out and win the game, which they did. You wouldn't fault the Ravens for that, it's not fair to fault the Jets.

And when Revis has locked down Vincent Jackson, who is Rivers going to throw it to then?

It should be no surprise the Bengals where gonna lose, they may make it to the playoffs but they can't play.
Yet they managed to sweep the division which if memory serves includes the Ravens. You should be more analytical with your assessments. Your basically saying your team lost to a team that can't play. Not once but twice. Your comment is clearly unsubstantiated. Yes they blew the big game. Yes they have not been the same since losing Henry on the field. He was our deep man. But don't just say they can't play because you insult your own team in the process.

wait! i must have missed this somehow. what did Rex say about the Ravens?
That he should have been the HC, then Bart said he was basically the HC last year. Then he claims that Revis has more of an impact on a game than Ray Lewis or Ed Reed ever did in their primes. Then saying Kruger had no right to wear Michael McCrary's #99. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head, anything else I missed Franny? Hes basically been completely ignorant and pompous about his time in Baltimore.

You can't honestly think that I would care about you guys beating us. That was four months ago. More importantly, I don't think that the Chargers care either.

HUH? How is the Jets' spot not justified? Because the Bengals laid down in week 17? Well I think their wild card victory MORE than justifies them being there.

I can see you saying their spot wasn't justified if they got beat by the Bengals, but considering you're saying it after they went into Cincinatti in a playoff game and pretty much ran them through...I just don't get it.
I respect their win today (mostly) but bear in mind that if the Colts didn't lay down and pull their starters in Week 16, the Jets would have been eliminated from the playoffs come kickoff time in Week 17. We were given absolutely no such luxury in any game this season, including when WE played the Colts.

The thing to remember here is that the Bengals the Jets just played twice were not the Bengals we played twice, because the Jets didn't have to face Rey Maulauga, the man largely responsible for shutting down our running game. Wonder why their usually stout defense suddenly gave up huge 100+ yard rushing games to the Jets? That guy was as essential to their run-stopping as Ray has been to ours this year, so that should give you an idea of how different that team was than the one we faced.

Actually if one compares the two games today, at least the Bengals were fighting hard. The Eagles looked like they had never played football before in their lives. I thought the Bengals might make a comeback when they took the score to 21 - 14. I honestly just do not think Palmer is ever going to be Palmer again. I know no one in Cincy likes to hear it, but you guys need a new QB.

Ya between Tommy John, and knee surgery those are two major surgeries that directly comply with a QB. However Palmer's problems tonight and the second half of the season have not been mechanical, hes just been making poor throws. Now having played baseball TJ surgery is somewhat of a norm for me being around pitchers, and they do say that when you get TJ surgery you basically have to teach yourself how to throw again because your ligament is totally different and not flexible, and you dont know how strong or weak it is. Hence why some people come back throwing harder/weaker.

Too many excuses being made for a valid point to be detracted from that post. Sorry.

Jets beat the Bengals twice in a row, and are now in the divisional round. That truth dispels all counter-arguments.

Saying "Oh but if the Colts didn't lay down..." is absolutely meaningless. Hypotheticals count for nothing in the NFL. All that matters are the wins and losses, and the fact is that the Jets won when they needed to, and won their playoff game convincingly. That alone is enough to justify Rex Ryan as a head coach, and anyone who disagrees is too lost in their own delusional mind to even be worth discussing it with.

Ain't that's a shame.... I was hoping the Bolts would get to beat them again.

But anyway... if you guys win today, I think you could possibly beat the Colt. Then maybe we can get some payback for week 2.

Best of luck to ya!

I think you may be right. He has seemed gun shy since 05 when the thugs destroyed his knee requiring a donor knee. Since then injuries in each season have dogged him. It may be time to realize he does not have the edge anymore.

Accept of course the fact that they would never have been in that position if not for Indy laying down on them. Don't be so quick to crown the Jets. They beat the Bengals and that is undeniable. But with Carson slinging the ball like a high school freshman instead of an NFL quarterback it did not look all that dificult a task to beat the Bengals. Lets see how they do against the Bolts!

Yes that would have been nice. Thanks for cheering but all of us cheering together was not enough to overcome a quarterback who looked dreadful. Ocho had Revis beat by three yards near the endzone and Carson overthrew him by a good ten yards. That is a standard Bengals pass play they have connected on 100 times. Something is wrong with Carson. He missed an easy 6. As well as many easy slants where he threw behind the reciever.

I was doing some reading on a Bengals board and the posters there were saying Palmer is horrible when it gets cold, i was thinking all injuries and surgeries caught up with him. He did look Bolleresque out there and he was another California QB, but then so is Sanchez.
I do know for a fact as you age all the injuries hurt more in the cold.

Good point. And God knows he has been piling up the injuries. Knee, Shoulder, Elbow, and now Thumb. He will have surgery in the off season so probably the same problem next year. Maybe time to step aside and let little brother have a go at it.

I guess I should add that while I am trying to look at things objectively, they are still my guys and I am proud of the season they put together. A lot of nail bitters but that made for some very exciting wins. I am not even that bummed they were bounced this week as I knew they were not going deep into the playoffs. But they have something to build on. If they will!

Do you think Brown will pay Zimmer? I heard the Redskins are looking at him and Synder is not known to be a cheapskate.

I certainly hope so. But Mike Brown does not have half the football savy his dad had. He really is a big part of why the Bengals are the Bungles most of the time. But he would be wise to pay Zim what he is asking. The man came to work three days after his wife died for crying out loud. The team loves him and he is one heck of a DC.

That's the sad part about the game being turned into a bussiness. You guys had a heck of a year and given all the off field tragity, at that point in the season had to be emotionally draining on your team. You did win the AFC North and that is no easy task. It was kind of tough to watch Palmer throw so many high passes, I thought he did a a good job of read and recognition of Rex's defense, but just seemed off. Here's to you for a good season, and being a true fan of your team, no matter what!

Really? He caught a couple passes and he got on top of revis several times. Carson overthrew him once and did not throw to him the other times. You credit that to Revis? Ok.

And that deal was not on the table this game.

Kind of sad to see yesterday. I was pulling for the fellow AFC North team. Carson Palmer was god awful at best and the kicker was even worse. They just needed to run the ball for the passing game was a nightmare.

Until I say that they'd play the Jets, I thought they'd be a one-and-done. I'm very surprised they got beat (hence my picking them). Oh well. Thanks Cincy, now I have to hear it from all the Jets fans....in fact, it's started already with the "Man, how'd the Steelers lose to them twice???"

Saw this a million miles away. They've looked terrible the past 5 or 6 weeks, and were clearly still recovering from the loss of Chris Henry.

Another thing I think is crazy is how he gets all this praise for getting to the playoffs and winning one game. I will give him credit for the playoff win, one of the best games he has had BUT what about those 20+ ints that hurt his team in the regular season, nobody likes to talk about that all the sudden, I still think Stafford is the better of the two, even with a wayyy worse o-line.
