Oher 2Nd In Offensive Rookie Of The Year

21 posts in this topic

Oher was a steal at the 23rd pick, he is the best offensive lineman rookie this season.

If the draft was today, Oher may be the #1 pick.

I don't even think that's statement's outlandish. Harvin won it but I think you ask any GM who they'd pick between a dominant tackle and an electrifying return man/ wideout, they'd take the big ugly. I think it was an excellent pick (which we all kinda felt at the time).

Couldn't agree more... Oher was the steal of the draft and would have been the #1 overall selection if teams could "re-do"

So the last two years our boys went second in OROY?! Not bad at all. :D

I'm not surprised Harvin won it though. Big flashy vs. big ugly. The stat monster will win out every time in that case.

considering what Harvin did and the fact he missed 3 games I think he earned it. You have to REALLY stand out as an o-lineman to win any type of award.

Having a major motion picture come out about your life and being on multiple TV news shows isn't standing out?

Glamour positions like WR, QB, and RB ALWAYS win these types of awards. Would most GMs rather have a solid, dominant tackle over an electrifying WR/KR, absolutely. But the NFL is all about flashy. Harvin had an incredible year, no doubt. Would he have been as successful if he had Sage Rosenfeld or Tavaris Jackson throwing him the ball, hell no. So I think Brett Favre should be co-winner lol.

Finishing second as an O-lineman is amazing.

I love Oher but the award will always go to rookie playmakers (recievers, running backs, quarterbacks and even maybe Tight Ends)

Only six votes? :( Harvin won by a landslide.

I can't say that I'm very surprised though. These awards are dominated by glamour positions.

You'd be surprised at how often people don't do that.

You're never going to get rid of that sig are you?

Probably not. I briefly contemplated retiring it the other day, but what would we all do without our daily dosage of Will Demps?

The guys in the trenches aren't as visable, even though they make it possible for players like Harvin to get open. His return work was good, but I just look at last year. Matt Ryan wins it, Joe Flacco dang near gets to the Super Bowl. We'll just have to get Michael and Joe a ring! GO RAVENS!!

The only thing I don't like about Harvin winning it is the idea that a lot of his explosiveness came on SPECIAL TEAMS which shouldn't be considered for OFFENSIVE ROY. Don't get me wrong he had a good season receiving but I guess it is my purple shades...
