Why Is No One Is Talking About...

24 posts in this topic

Ellerbe had a great game yesterday.

In the 3rd quarter, he intercepted Russell to set up Willis' spectacular TD run and stiffarm.

In the 4th quarter, Ellerbe recovered a fumble giving us the ball back again in the 4th quarter.

He only recorded 2 tackles, but he made a ton of big plays for us. He also allowed a TD while in coverage, but it is much harder for LBers to stay on WRs.

With T-Good being injured they've had a good opportunity to get him more snaps and prove himself. He has the build and motivation/desire to be a great thumper just like Bart. I like what I see, but there's always room for improvement.

Do you guys think he has secured the MLB spot next to Ray Ray? Are the coaches satisfeid with Ellerbe's (or T-Good's) performance to prevent us from drafting a MLB in the 1st 3 rounds?

I definitely think he's secured the starting inside LB spot next to Ray. He has the athleticism but is also physical. He's improving in pass coverage and has been steadily making plays for several weeks now.

I personally don't think this team needs a MLB right now unless Ray retires.

Yea I think he may have secured the starting spot. I think he needs to bulk up a little more, but other than that, I like the physical attitude he brings to our defense. His pass coverage has immensely improved over the last few weeks as well...btw, it was Ray Lewis that gave up the TD in coverage

I think he has been doing an excellent job. Did you see those moves on his INT return?

He has been a very good player esepcially these past 8 weeks. What a great Undrafted FA find.

I am not so sure if Gooden, and Ellerbe have (secured) the MLB spots. It really all depends who is available in the early rounds in the draft and if we decide to pull the trigger. But, really no one knows at this point, it could go either way. But, if Ellerbe really performs in the playoffs MLB, might take a backseat in the offseason.

Bulk up? The guy doesn't have a very lengthy frame little room for bulk. Any added weight and he'd look fat.

Ellerbe has been playing great football all season. Everything hasn't been prefect and his rookie stature has shown at times. However for the most part he is playing really good football.

He might have been credited for only 2 tackles, but he made so many more plays in the Osk game. From being a effective inside blitzer, to taking on lead blockers in the run game, and having great pass coverage to prevent a TD in the pass game.

Ellerbe could be a big factor for the Ravens defesne in the playoff game. Remember in the first game in up in NE, Ellerbe was starting his first NFL game and it showed at time. Now Ellerbe is so much more comfortable. Don't be surprised to see Ellerbe matched up on the slot WR for the Pats sunday. Ellerbe did a pretty good job in coverage of Welker in week 4, in his limited chances.

I didn't think the Ravens would draft a MLB high in the draft to began with. I think Ellerbe would be more then capable of handling playing that position.

I was raving about him yesterday. Really is a bright spot at the MLB position, especially with the great one leaving soon-ish. No one is talking about him because they hear his name and say "Who?" He will get his props, especially if he continues to play well in the post season.

I agree Ellerbe is already a big dude. look at his thighs. Barnes looks tiny next to him and so does T-Good. I hope Barnes also gets more time as pressure LB.
He seems to have the BEST bull rush of the young-ins.

do u also know who was out of position on that play. ED REED!! TRYING TO GO FOR THE BIG PLAY, BUT OF COURSE WHAT HE DOES BEST IS GIVES UP THE BIG PLAY. why was he all the way down where ray lewis was. i dont know about alot of you but reed gave up alot of plays from what a group of us saw out there.. id rather have zibby in the game then reed.

I agree on the 'Ellerbe is plenty heavy enough'. I think you mean T-Good needs to bulk up. That guy looks like a safety.

I also thought Ellerbe showed WAY more speed than I thought he had on that run back. I literally said 'wow' out loud, and I rarely do that. Nifty footwork too. I was really impressed.

Only way we take a MLB this year is if McClain falls to us, and if he does we're laughing. Ellerbe as far as Im concerned is THE jack linebacker on this team. The only thing he needs to work on, is game experience and thats something that is easily done.

Ellerbee is definitely playing well and has clearly outplayed T-Good for the starting spot.

I 100% agree.

Pretty sure the call on that play was either 2 deep safety man coverage, or a soft cov 2 buc call. I didnt get to see a replay of the whole field but if its 2 deep safety that means he has the whole half field and its impossible to be everywhere. If it was Cov 2 Buc, that play was just a perfect play call over Lewis' head. That throw was damn near perfect as well.

Thank you! Reed was late getting over but his responsibility wasn't center-field on that play.

I wouldn't say he's secured it necessarily, but there's no question he deserves more playing time. This is what's great about our LB corps. It's got a good dose of young talent.

That's a good reason not for him to bulk up. He'd lose some of it.

I was just thinking that. Ellerbe was actually impressive in coverage. He shadowed McFadden pretty well and prevented the TD.

When you follow Wes Welker across the field in 1-1 coverage then make a tackle immediately after he catches the ball, you deserve a chance to prove yourself. Out of our young LBs, I think he is in the best position to start next year. Gooden tends to over pursue and allow giant cutback lanes. McClain's best attribute is pass rushing, and Barnes is showing that he is better. Both Gooden and McClain are questionable in coverage, but Ellerbe seems to do an adequate job. At least for this system, Ellerbe has shown that he is the best option. Hopefully, he solidifies it in our playoff run.
