Well, looks like Zorn is the first to get fired.

Should be the first of several I'd imagine. Wonder what Holmgren is gonna do with Mangini?

I can't find a link right now, but Tom Cable is expected to be released by Al Davis and the Raiders.

Additionally, the entire Bills coaching staff has been released although interim head coach Perry Fewell will interview for the vacant position. The Bucs' Raheem Morris' fate won't be known for a month, as this next month will be spent evaluating the team; Morris is not expected to be fired yet, though he is on a short leash after this season's dismal performance.

Also, Eric Mangini may get a second shot with the Browns under Mike Holmgren, but Holmgren will evaluate all aspects of Mangini's operation and will keep him on a short leash, expecting moderate improvement next season or else.

Finally, Mike Shanahan is expected to be the top candidate for the Redskins coaching job, but other coaches will be interviewed such as Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer once the Bengals' season is over; Zimmer's contract is up at the end of the season and is free to interview with any team.

Like we didn't see Zorn's firing coming. But wow...the dignity he displayed throughout is commendable.

Anyone else read the reports that Mr. Chin has been quietly talking to the Bills? He keeps saying on air that he's not leaving TV but I'm not so sure of that. Gruden I believe. Cowher not so much.

I just can't see Shanahan working with Snyder. I'm sure Shanahan is the type that wants to control everything, and I don't see Snyder giving him that kind of power.

But Snyder is actively pursuing Shanahan. If Snyder's not willing to compromise to bring him in, why bother with the pursuit then?

Per just-received mobile alert:

Raheem Morris stays!

Damn, I hope Snyder hasn't finally realized how clueless he is when it comes to football!!! I enjoy the Redskins and their perennial 4 or 5 win seasons. :)

I wonder if they will actually let Lovie go or give him one more chance that he doesnt deserve.
I'll answer a few questions that were asked to clear things up on potential coaching changes. First Lovie Smith, and the Bears coaching changes, Raheem Morris Update and a interesting development with the Texans.

He'll get one more chance. Here's an article from PFT that says that he is expected to return and a press conference tomorrow will confirm it, Offensive Coordinator Ron Turner will be fired and possibily the whole offensive staff in that matter, Lovie Smith will lose play calling duties on Defense and Defensive Line Coach/Assistant Head Coach Rod Marinelli will take over defensive play calling. USC Offensive Coordinator Jeremy Bates could be a candidate to replace Turner since Bates worked with Cutler when he was in Denver.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/04/bears-are-expected-to-announce-that-lovie-smith-will-be-back/

Tampa Bay has announced that Raheem Morris will be staying as Head Coach. A report from the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora said the Bucs were willing to fire Morris ONLY IF they could bring in a "A" list candidate.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/04/bucs-confirm-that-morris-will-be-back/

A very interesting change within the Texans organization, Gary Kubiak may be getting an extension but Kyle Shananan is on the way out as he will join his father Mike in DC and be the new OC in DC. I'm suprised the Texans are just letting him go without a fight, after coming so close this year to getting into the playoffs, the one thing they didn't need was a coaching change anywhere. They are getting a list of candidates together to find Kyle's replacement.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/04/texans-line-up-offensive-coordinator-candiates/

Hope that answers questions on this quiet Black Monday in the NFL. I think the main reason why there were barely any coaching changes was because of a possible 2011 lockout or financially being tied to a Coach, Lovie Smith being one as he is owed $11 million over the next two years which is why the Bears didn't fire him.

If Dan Snyder has any brains, and that's questionable, he'll shut up and let Bruce Allen handle the football matters, but then there's that brain thing! Oh well better them than us, good luck with that, lol!!!

'Nother moblie alert:

Ron Turner's out in Chicago.
That's a move that isn't surprising at all. Cedric Benson was terrible in Chicago, turns into a great RB in Cincy. Jay Cutler was a pro bowl QB with Denver, turns in to an interception maching with Chicago.

From fanball.com:

The News
The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that Raiders owner Al Davis will most likely fire head coach Tom Cable.

Our View
Were Cable to get fired, Oakland would be seeking its sixth new head coach since 2001. The team has lost at least 11 games in seven straight seasons. In addition to having to deal with the ego-maniacal Davis, any new coach would also be saddled with deadweight quarterback JaMarcus Russell. Expect another unconventional hire by the bay.

It's always amusing to watch Oakland settle for their 15th choice for a new head coach....

Yeah, looks like Shanahan is going to the Skins... Snyder will throw $5+ million/ year on the table to get him too.

How about this? Mangini did't lose his job!

link

Guess the win streak at the end of the season saved him...

I didn't even know he was "on the hot seat". They did have a pretty bad season though.....

Heard an interview with Jay Glazer on FSR yesterday. Glazer spoke to Mora and Mora was shocked by the firing. Guess it caught a lot of people off guard.

From fanball.com:

The News
The Panthers have given head coach John Fox the option of voiding the final year of his contract, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View
This is a bit of an unusual move on the Panthers' part. It remains to be seen whether Fox can find a better offer from another franchise, so stay tuned.

Like a bunch of us, I wasn't expecting that one.
