Dont Be Too Hard On The Pass Defense.

10 posts in this topic

Im sure everyone watched in horror today when the Raiders kept driving down the field by passing the ball even when they couldn't run the ball. But even though it was the Raiders their QB's were making some very accurate passes. Even Russell threw some very good balls. Chris Carr looked sloppy on some plays and other times looked good. The PI call was incorrect Carr made a great play. Im not 100% sure but it seemed like Ed Reed looked a little out of place.

Thats the first time I think ever where I have not seen Ed make 1 single play in the pass defense except a tackle on 3rd down. It was unreal and very disheartening.

Well at least we gave Reed a game to get adjusted, they probably told him to play cautiously. He'll practice this week and make a play next Sunday.

i think that Ed was more of a "decoy" than anything else in that game. sure...he didn't make a play...but...i don't remember the ball going his way that much while he was on the field either.

It was good to see Ed out there again, and even though he didn't get his name called much he does have to be accounted for. Just getting into a game, will help to get him up to "game speed" and his leadership is a valuable asset.

I was surprised at some of the catches the Raiders made. Some were accurate, others resulted in a lot of diving catches that surprised me a little. Defense didn't play lights out, but they also didn't give up the big play (minus the pretty nice TD to Miller).

Secondary was playing like **** early on imo. But we clamped up a little bit towards the end. As far as reed, he wasn't getting picked apart like most of our other guys, so no complaints from me.

Don't think anybody was getting picked apart. Oakland was running a lot of 3 and 4 WR packages yesterday I don't think the Ravens were ready for it honestly. Oakland's WR's made some pretty acrobatic catches and Charlie Frye was actually playing a good game. Russell made a few nice passes too.

I don't think the pass d was really that bad. Oakland just needs a good QB and they are playoff contenders. That was not a bad team that we played yesterday.

I remember a crucial third and long that was completed right smack in the middle of the field. He looked a bit lost to me. I think it served him well, ultimately, for him to get some game time though. I don't remember seeing him in pain on the sideline or anything.

Exactly. Now teams (Starting with New England) have to take Ed Reed into consideration. IIRC our defensive scheme in the secondary is a zone scheme so that's why we give up some pass plays. It's going to happen. I'm not all concerned about the defense. They'll do their job and keep the score winnable.
