Report: Billick to Interview with Bills?

21 posts in this topic

Yahoo! Sports and their sources are reporting that the Buffalo Bills are set to interview former Ravens head coach and current FOX Sports/NFL Network analyst Brian Billick. Billick has denied contact with them thus far, but the Bills have yet to confirm or deny speculation that he is set for an interview.

The Bills' head coaching position was vacated when Dick Jauron was fired mid-season, leaving defensive coordinator Perry Fewell as the interim head coach. Fewell is not expected to be retained although he will likely be an interviewed candidate so as to fulfill the league's Rooney Rule, requiring at least one minority candidate to be interviewed for any vacant coaching or personnel position.

Previous candidates that have rejected offers from Buffalo include Mike Shanahan, current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, and CBS analyst Bill Cowher. Billick has stated in the past that he would consider a return to coaching given the right circumstances.

Personally, I would prefer Billick to continue his job as an analyst; he's growing into the role and has quickly become one of my favorites, not just because of his days in Baltimore. The ol' coach was always made for the job and he's been outstanding thus far for a newcomer to the broadcast booth.

Be interseting to see where this goes.If he goes to Buffalo could he turn them around, and when will the Ravens vs. Billick showdown happen.
I personally have not been able to hear Brian broadcast yet so I can not comment on that aspect.

I actually enjoy Bilack as an analyst. He is a good guy "stubborn" but good minus keeping boller to long, but other than that I personally enjoyed having him around so best of luck what ever he chooses

I thought I saw that on a screen crawl on ESPN News, but I'm hoping that was just my eyes playing tricks on me!...

UPDATE: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that people should keep an eye on Cam Cameron as a dark horse candidate for the Bills head coaching job; Cameron has ties to Buddy Nix, the new Bills GM, from their time together in San Diego. (Link)

I'm also reading reports that Bill Cowher had met secretly with owner Ralph Wilson last week and is sending out feelers for potential assistant coaches now.

The Ravens should do everything possible to keep Cam, he does an excellent job on offense and I have a lot of faith in him developing Flacco.

I think keeping Hue Jackson is more instrumental in Flacco's development than keeping Cam, but maintaining continuity on offense is still just as important. If Hue Jackson were able and willing to stay as offensive coordinator, the loss of Cam wouldn't hurt as much.

So, does that mean the Ravens would be off the hook for the rest of Billicks contract? We have been paying him the las two years.

In theory, I would think so. Jerry Jones still owed Bill Parcells money when he was fired from the Cowboys, I believe, and Jones likely didn't owe that money once Parcells took the Dolphins' Executive VP of Football Operations job.

Plus, with Billick being paid the rest of his contract by the Ravens, he's technically a coach on the payroll, so if he takes another head coaching job, I don't believe he can be listed as such on two different payrolls as there'd be a conflict of interest.

That's what I'm hearing. Good for Billick, I hope he gets another shot. Too bad the Bills really have no quarterback. Billick is dying to get a quarterback again.

If he does get the job at Buffalo, that means a return trip to M&T Bank Stadium next year as a head coach.

It's been reported by Lombardi on the NFL network, that Cowher has turned down the Bills job and that he plans on sitting out the 2010 season.

Cowher was really hoping that the jobs in Carolina or Tampa Bay would open up.

It sounds like Billick is the front runner in Buffalo.

Just heardo n the NFl network. Brian Billick said he hasnt been contacted by the Bills. I personally think hes full of Bullcrap. Hes pulling a Brett Favre. Hes saying NO, but I think he has been contacted and he just doesn't want to admit it to the media yet.

He might've been instructed not to admit to it:
1) Because the Bills may have chosen to keep this quiet while they're sending feelers out for other candidates
2) Because he may choose to refuse the Bills' offer if he's happier as an analyst right now
3) Because his currrent employers (NFL Network and FOX Sports) may not want him to confirm anything until the time is right, for headline reasons
