Ray Lewis 30/30 Club Official Tracker

24 posts in this topic

Now Im sure at least some of you will know that Ray Ray is on track (kind of) to be only the 2nd player ever to join the 30/30 sacks/intercepts club along with former Chargers/Patriots all-pro safety Rodney Harrison.

At the time of writing Ray has 33.5 sacks and 28 intercepts, now this is interesting to me because it has released a floodgate of memories involving Ray reading a QB and jumping a route only to show hands like the rest of his body, made of solid stone...

But hey... he is a linebacker and with arms like his we can't always expect him to catch like Ed Reed, with that said I see a golden opportunity for Ray to hit the 30/30 club and playoffs in one fell swoop.

That opportunity has a name: Jamarcus Russell.

(PS maybe even a second, Charlie Frye :P)

My guess is we will see Frye not Russell on Sunday. I am all for seeing Lewis make that 30/30 club but...let's just concentrate on the win. I did not like what the Ravens did at the end of the half against the Steelers. It appeared (and is likely) they were just trying to get Ray Rice his 2,000 yds from scrimmage. Um...guys...we were losing and badly. At least ATTEMPT to score before the half. Rice had plenty of time to get his yards.

sadly he should have had this already i can think of at least 3 easy passes he missed, tho the speed of the game sometimes it is hard to get yourself in that mindset.

I get the feeling they're gonna start taking Ray out on most if not all obvious passing downs. Ray tends to come up big when we need it though, and I don't think a game-sealing pick would be out of the question tomorrow. And if he plays next year, which you'd expect him to, you'd think it likely a starting middle linebacker would get one pick in a year. So he could well get there, but I don't think he's a lock to.

Fun fact: Ray Lewis has more tackles (1746) than any linebacker in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, currently ranking fourth all-time behind Randy Gradishar, Jessie Tuggle and Junior Seau. He only needs 63 more tackles to take 3rd place from Tuggle.

With Mattison starting to use zone coverages alot more theres no way Ray will come off the field. He doesnt have the elite speed he used to, but you have got to be kidding me if you want Gooden and Ellerbe on the field in Nickel situations.

Certainly not Erbelle, but I think Gooden's speed means that a training camp of coaching under his belt could turn him into a quality coverage linebacker.

Well that remains to see, id love to see Gooden turn into a quality 3 down LB right now his field awareness is nowhere close to where it needs to be. And coupled with that he still cant stay healthy. Ellerbe is my guy if im running this team, thumper, comes screaming through the hole at the LOS, throws his body around recklessly in collisions. If we stick with a 4-3 Gooden will prob take an OLB role in the future.

For the record, Frye should just throw 2 into Rays gut ala Brett Favre for Strahan if the game is sealed lol.

Tackles are not an official stat of the NFL.
That's only partially true; rather, tackles weren't officially tracked by the NFL until some point over the last two decades. Teams had been responsible for recording tackles on their own, and to an extent, still are responsible. That's why tackle numbers are a little bit off, depending on where you look.

Tackles are also a bit subjective; some gang tackles aren't credited to every player involved, and some sacks are later reverted to tackles when they're stops at the line of the scrimmage, or vice versa when they're just behind the line of scrimmage. If you really think about it and do the math, it's impossible in many box scores to have as many recorded tackles, especially if they exceed the number of plays ran by a huge margin.

I like Erbelle for the same reasons as you do, but I don't know about his potential in pass coverage. And I agree that Gooden makes more sense outside in a 4-3.

Well, alot of official stats are subjective. For one, if you run for half a yard gain twice, and each is accredited as yard gain, then you've run for one yard but the stats say you've run for 2. When you think about it, given that alot of guys tote the ball close to 400 times, they could have actually rushed for alot different than their yardage numbers say they have.

Thats a great point, just like short yardage touchdowns will ruin your ypc average or easy checkdowns to the flats will improve your passer rating everything in the nfl is subjective to some degree. Probably explains why nobody said anything when Ray surpassed Zach Thomas midway through the season... tackles being "unofficial".

Every game I hope he gets a pick but he doesnt. It s killin me. I want him to have this record, he would be the only linebacker to ever have it.

It could happen. Ray did have a 2 pick game last season and has three 2 pick games for his career (Most among active Linebackers).

I also looked on profootballreference.com and Ray has the 2nd most seasons for a linebacker with at least 1 interception with 12 such seasons. The record of 13 such seasons is held by Sam Huff. So Ray could tie that record as well.

Ray is also the all time leader in Interception return yardage among Middle/Inside Linebackers with 473 return yards.

I was really hoping that he was going to join the 30/30 club this season, but with only 1 regular season game left I don't see him doing it this year. Someday he will be in it and it will be tremendous when he does.

There's going to be alot of turnovers in this game.

Hopefully Ray gets some interceptions, if we bring the heat, Frye looks pedestrian when his pocket collapses. A couple of tipped passes and I think Ray can get the 30/30.

I don't think he'll get 2 picks in Oakland, maybe one. Then maybe one in the post season, but there's no doubt he'll get in the 30/30 club by the end of his career. Just another accolade to take into the H.O.F

He could have had it this year but dropped a couple of big ones.
The only drop I remember was the one Ray got both hands on when he jumped, on that final penalty filled drive in the 1st Bengals game.

Other than that, he really hasn't had an INT opportunities.

Some years the ball doesn't bounce your way. Fletcher didn't have an INT last season and this year his 1 int was a tipped pass that fell right into his hands. Maybe Ray will get some INT today to get the Ravens into the playoffs!
