Merged: Reed's Return?

56 posts in this topic

NFL.com is reporting that all signs are pointing towards the fact that Reed will play this sunday. Im half happy, but Im also hopeful that this doesnt agitate his injury to where he'll be further hampered in the playoffs.

Great news. If he plays, maybe the coaches will finally give Zibikowski a chance to return punts. I don't think it'll happen but one can dream.

with the way Zib has been playing i would pesonally want them to lean towards cautiion and have a rested Reed for our playoff run if all goes well in oakland.

I won't hold this last game lightly, because last year the Raiders killed the Bucs in the second half of the game because the Bucs gave up.

I would assume that he doesn't need to play the whole game and that he just wants to try it out and see how his body feels. I suppose this is a good team to test yourself out against, the Raiders like the throw the ball deep and I think their starting QB is Charlie Frye who Reed is familiar with.

If there's any week where Reed should play, it's this week. Sure it would be great for him to rest one more game and come back for the first Wild Card game if the Ravens win, but Ed needs to go out and get his feel back, and maybe get a couple Interceptions or a pick 6 but this is it. With the exception of the Browns, the Raiders have beat 2 teams in the AFC North both in which are either going to be in the post season or are trying to get a playoff spot. Ravens may need Reed to to make a pivital play at the end of the game to win the game. I'm not sure if that's going to happen but who knows, Raiders beat the Bengals and Steelers so and any given sunday applies to the Raiders who are in full spoiler mode.

Who knows how it will turn out but Reed or no Reed but I expect the Ravens to win in Oakland and be ready for either a 3rd matchup with the Bengals or a second crack at the Patriots. I will say this, Reed will make our defense even better and for what they have done without Reed, is pretty good and now they get Reed back, this defense is going to be dangerous come playoff time if they make it.

Where'd you hear that? All I heard was that reed kept himself out and told the coaches he couldn't go.

For clarification:
Meanwhile, Harbaugh denied a report that he overruled safety Ed Reed’s desire to play, even though Reed is working through a groin injury.

“Ed and I had a conversation,” Harbaugh said. “He tried to go. He didn’t feel like he could go and I didn’t feel like he could go based on what he said about the work out he had. So, no, that’s not true.”

Harbaugh also said he would not hesitate to insert Reed if the safety hadn’t practiced all week.

“A guy like Ed Reed, he can go play,” said Harbaugh. “He can go play well without practice. He’s had all this experience, all these reps. He capable. He doesn’t need the practice to play well. But, you worry about the re-injury part of it. And he worries about that, so you want to test it a little bit before he goes back and plays. We’ll just have to see how that works out this week.”

I trust Harbaugh to make the right move.

If Reed simply cannot practice this whole week though I would bench him. It's not like Zibs is terrible, infact, he's playing great.

I'm more worried about our cornerback issues.

Im all for ed resting and just going to practice if he can practice that is. We should be able to handle oakland without ed if we cant then we wont be able to handle teams like the colts etc with or without ed. Zibi is playing good and a guy like ed doesent need to play before the playoffs so he gets used to playing again he's been out 3-4 weeks not 2 years he's not called one of the best Safety of all time for nothing. ;) now the question is can ed play corner hmm....

An opportunity for us to finally bench Landry. But knowing Harbaugh he will probably continue to start Landry, it doesn't matter how many tackles he misses.

kind of funny harbs admits he doesnt need to practice to play. I wonder who all qualifies for that honor? Considering I think the reason they didnt take cousins out is bc he got all the reps in practice rather than chester, harbs regards what happens in practice VERY HIGHLY

Wow, very bold statement on someone that has saved our asses several times recently. Of course in the beginning he sucked, you wouldn't even play if you had a neck injury.

If Reed plays this week it will just prove how much of an idiot John Harbaugh is. Reed was cleared to play last week, probably when we needed him the most. Not saying Zibby did bad but Reed is on a whole different level than Tommy. Anyways Harbaugh made him ride the pine. So why he would come back for Oakland would just be retarded.....

Landry and Zibby play different positions... come on man your one of the more intelligent posters on here.

Plus, Landry has been much better in coverage and is getting all over the field as late. As the season has progressed I've gained more confidence in him every game.

Bruce Cunningham just reported that Ed Reed has a tear in his groin. Damn...
[/quote]

I was just about to report this. If it is a groin tear, he could be out for our playoff run (if there is one).

Now they are playing sound bites from Reed at the media section today. He says that he probably will not be playing due to a groin tear (most likely).

Come on, enough with the neck thing. Some of you guys act like he broke his neck. Landry can walk again, it's a miracle. He hurt his neck, he took a year off, he's been cleared and now he's playing again. Heck, he was supposed to return to the lineup last season already. I'm not saying he should have but let's not act like this was career threatening or anything like that.

And outside of a couple tipped interceptions and the great tackle he made last week on a deep ball by Big Ben where he nailed the RB, i don't remember him making any plays this season. But i do remember a lot of missed tackles. He's a weakness in the running game, and that's where he should excel at since Reed is doing the work in coverage. Zibby is an obvious upgrade over Landry.

How are they playing different positions? Reed is our FS, he's covering people. Harbaugh doesn't want him anywhere close to the LOS because they don't want him to tackle anybody with his neck.

Zibby is a prototypical SS. Landry is not a SS and he's not a FS. He has the size to play SS but he doesn't tackle well. Bottom line they're both competing for the same spot at SS. I wouldn't worry so much about what the depth chart says. I'm sure they still have Zibby at FS and 'Ruki at SS. It's the opposite.

where did that come from? First its the neck which he's been playing through. Next its an ankle or a knee, then its the hip. Now the hip is decent enough to play and its a groin tear??? Reed is so done, this sucks.
