I still don't understand. Can somebody please explain.

How can he ask for a trade if he is a RFA at the end of this year? Wouldn't he just ask not to be re-signed?
Like, I said before he could just be asking that the Ravens dont match any offer he gets as a RFA.

My guess is his agent has been talking to reps from other teams and they know that there is some interest but the team is probably only willing to make a minimal offer that the Ravens would be able to match. He's also probably expecting a tender on the low end.

I have no problem with this whatsoever. He's caused us no trouble at all, and its about time he gets a shot at showing people his talent. Good luck to him, he should be successful where ever he goes.

I haven't decided what I feel about this situation. I was slightly caught off guard when I got a text from NFL Mobile telling me to go read the article on it. At first, I was like: "Dude's trippin'. Why not stay there, learn a little more, THEN (if the situation is still not what he wants it to be) ask for a trade?" (Is it silly of me to think this?) Then, I was a little mad: "How dare he do this now?!"

Now, I'm pretty much indifferent. Though I DO still hold on to my first question...

I heard that on Smtih's radio show last night, this announcement was all on his agent. Troy Smith said he didn't even know about it until just prior to the radio show.

For all the Troy lovers - even the lowly Raiders are anti Smith and they have one of the worst QB rosters EVER!!!!

Well they would rather have Flacco AND just about the entire NFL thinks Smith made a huge error announcing the trade thing while the team is still trying to make the playoffs.

Redskins fans have been discussing him too, and the verdict is pretty much the same.

It's too bad that Smith's agent had such poor timing.

I think this is a terrible time to talk about trades but i dont think its a big distraction.Last year with rex throughout the playoffs i personally think rex was thinking about the jets job same with monte with the bucs their d played horrible after he announced 4 weeks prior of the playoffs he was leaving then they lost last 4 dident make the playoffs

Timing is odd because your boys(the coaches) are losing the locker room. 32-3 Blowouts and you backup QB is coming in for one or two reps what are these coaches doing. Troy should have played the entire fourth against the lions bears, Denver and Browns. The guy was your starting QB tell some mysterious illness kept him from starting.

Smith Stats - career

Att Compl Perct Yards Avg TD INT Sacks
48 89 53.9 558 6.3 3 1 5

Gradkowski - 2009 season

82 150 54.7 1,007 6.7 6 3 11

Not saying one is better than the other, but the beloved T. Smith that some say should be starting over Flacco and could/should start on a handful of NFL teams matches up to Bruce Gradkowski????

AND just for good measure

JP Losmans best year (with no OLINE to speak of)

Att Compl Perct Yards Avg TD INT Sacks
268 429 62.5 3,051 7.1 19 14 47

You're right. He's a UFA in 2010.

Why the hell is he asking for a trade?

Contract Information for Troy Smith
He's a restricted free agent but even with the new rules of the uncapped year people who have been in the league less that 6 years are now RFAs. Troy will be a restricted free agent so all we have to do is put on a 4th round tender than a team will have to trade a 4th to get him.

We needed to use him more. As a receiver or more trick plays. I big key to our success last year was our element of surprise on offense and defense. We took a step back from that (mostly defense) and I believe that is why we are where we are now.

I will repeat myself for the umpteenth time....T Smith did NOTHING lasy year at all.

What are you talking about?

By element of surprise, I know you're referring to the "the wild cat/suggs package". It resulted in nothing and should not be used.

You can tell that these posts about this anger me. When you say we had success last year partly due to this, it takes away from the guys that really got us to the AFCCG - running backs and defense....not T Smith and the "element of surprise"!!

I dont understand why people say dumb things especially if a team gets him he probably will reach the playoffs. He is a good quaterback in the right system and i think they would probably get a third round or second round pick. He deserves to get atry it is a business and we could of utilized him more and created more plays for him. The problem is with the coordinator and he cannot stick with anything for more than three games. I think ozzie newsome needs to go to the coordinator and the coach and talk to them about that topic.

i really hope that we can keep him but its not fair to ask a guy to sit and never be given a chance. i dont know why people are hating on beck the man hasnt done anything to prove that he cant be a great backup. sometimes i really question what goes thru peoples minds on here before they post.

we need to treasure are time with players because of the old faithfuls (ray,ed,todd, and ect.) we have become spoiled. we need to get use to change because if we like it or not its going to happen. i wonder what some of yall would do if flacco decided to go play some where for crazy money? from the way it seems i think alot of us would hate flacco instead of remeber these players have to take care of business just like us and they are human.

You just did (a few actually)

1 - 3rd or 2nd round pick for a backup QB?
2 - Utilized him more? - we have a starting QB and the handful of times we try the "suggs package" it fails miserably!
3 - Cam is not the problem

There were so many Troy lovers here in 07.

It's hard to imagine what they would say if back then somebody told them Troy might be traded away in 2 years without ever starting, funny how things work out.
