Troy Smith Requests Trade

83 posts in this topic

I really dont see why a team about to attempt to earn a playoff berth is going to be distracted by the backup quarterback asking for a trade.

With all due respect to Mr.Smith and all he's accomplished in his college career...you have to be at LEAST 6-3" to be a legimate QB in the NFL. Sorry, that's the hard cold reality and even those tall guys are having their passes blocked.
No you don't sir...

Drew Brees, Donovan McNabb and Tony Romo are all under 6'3 and are more than legitimate starting QBs.

I dont think they are GOING to be a distracted. The point is why would an active member of the team try to be a distraction. First the bogus end zone dance while you're running up the score, then you get what you deserve by getting picked while trying to run up the score in the next game, now this????

well smith is an rfa so if a team doesnt sign him to an offer sheet for a 5th round pick we wont get anything more for him. Unless we get a 5th or higher we should keep him. I think ozzie puts the 2nd round tender on him though.

very odd timing aswell

So trade him already. Maybe we can get a solid WR for him. There are plenty of teams out there looking for a QB.

But I doubt any of them would be willing to give up a good receiver for an unproven career back-up.

Again, the best case scenario is if the Ravens can get a 5th round pick for Troy.
We'd like to see this happen. That way, one side can hopefully tell the other side:

"Told you so!"
Are there actually people left who think that Troy Smith is going to emerge as better than Flacco?
It's not like he went to the media and said anything. His agent TWITTERED it.
Both Smith and his agent knew full well that twittering this kind of a thing would be just as effective as going to the press in terms of getting attention.
And his agent is smart to do this now, while a lot of teams are already planning their off-season moves and targets.
I actually agree with this; it's kind of unfair for a guy like Smith to have to be put on complete hold for an additional month (if the Ravens make a deep run), a time period during which the Browns/Bill etc. will be looking for every available holiday sale.

:34853_doh: If they honor his request, John Beck may by the primary back-up.
He was gone anyway through free agency.

There are. I was watching the game this weekend with somebody calling for Troy Smith to start.

Flacco is the guy in Baltimore, I don't blame Troy.

I think he would fit well in Miami because he's quick. I don't know how confident they are in Henne being the future.

I actually think the Dolphins are quite impressed with Henne and his progression. He's a smart QB with a smart arm.

He'll be the starter next year.

Whats wrong with Beck? Didnt he perform well in the pre-season? Im confident in our back up QB if Joe goes down, i PRAY he doesnt. We'd see alot more hand-offs and short passes to the flats and HEEAP. I was never a huge fan Troy "I.N.T" Smith. If anyone could use him id see someone that would like to utilize his best skill, and that would be in a Wildcat. Jaguars, Miami, etc..

I love Troy Smith and have always rooted for him. Flacco is our franchise QB and future. With that said I hope Troy gets traded to a team where he has a chance to start.

Good luck, Troy.

I just hope Al Davis doesn't grab him...he deserves better than that.

It'd be cool if we could get a cornerback(of course we'd need to put more down than simply Troy) or some line depth for him though.

We could trade both Smith and McGahee for a 3rd or 4th round pick.
He'd have to restructure his contract first and you know thats NOT happening

not to mention if we're talking about trying/hoping to get a 5th for just Troy, why in the world throw in a guy with 11 TD's on the year to get a round or two better of a trade.

really????

Troy is way too slow for the Crypt Keeper.

If Nnamdi was up for grabs, we might find a way to make it work lol.

I hope Troy didnt try to get some national attention with this because if he did...
epic fail.

But horrible timing on his part. couldnt he have at least waited until after the season to be a distraction?
c'mon man.

If we can get anything for him I would be happy.

BRANDON MARSHALL will be the most sought after FA this year not Jackson.

It came from his agent. He can tell his agent at any time that he wants to be traded, he could have made this request during training camp for all we know, but that doesnt mean he wants it to become national news. His agent choose to air it on twitter. So, epic fail by the agent.

I still don't understand. Can somebody please explain.

How can he ask for a trade if he is a RFA at the end of this year? Wouldn't he just ask not to be re-signed?

He got bent when they did not give him a chance after the tonsil infection and I cant blame him for feeling snubbed. Don't see us picking up anything but a late round draft pick. For all his potential upside he is still really an unproven long term solution.I don't live in Baltimore anymore so not sure what Smith does in the local community. Not sure he digs this town the way Lewis does with all his extra curricular activities.
