As talented as he is I don't know who would give him a chance. Despite the success of Drew Brees, short QB's are often passed over. Why else did he fall to the 5th round?

For that reason I doubt we would get any reasonable offers. It would have to be a 2nd or 3rd rounder in my opinion to part with who I consider to be a very valuable backup QB.

A team may want him for the Wildcat but he doesn't really want to do that here.

I'll be happy if the Ravens can get anything for him.
It'll be tough. Probably a 5th rounder perhaps. Some team that might be willing to give him a starting shot.

That sounds about right. I'll jump for joy if they can land a 4th rounder for him.

No doubt, but I don't see a team giving up much for an unproven 5' 10" QB who hasn't played much. What team that needs a QB is saying, "We got to go get Troy Smith!"?

Ravens should grab Tebow in the middle rounds next year if he's there, make him FB, backup QB, and TE. (When I say, "should," I really mean "not really at all.")

Which team can give him a starting job?
A team with a bad offensive line.

Maybe the Rams will like to try our left overs again.

Boller did them wonders.

I don't see Ozzie trading away a versatile back QB for a 5th rounder. Remember we drafted him in the 5th round so although he hasn't been an everyday starter the team would be getting an expericed veteran for basically nothing. Even Sage Rosenfells who is much older and has a higher salary went for a 4th rounder.

Is anyone else a little annoyed that after yet another tough loss one of our players is asking for a trade while we still control our own playoff destiny and theres nothing Ozzie could do about it for several months anyway?

Raiders for sure. Al Davis would love to have the fastest starting QB in the league.

Bills, Browns, Rams, Panthers.

He's a free agent after the season anyway isn't he? Why's he need to request a trade?

You're right. He's a UFA in 2010.

Why the hell is he asking for a trade?

Contract Information for Troy Smith
7/24/2007: Signed a three-year, $1.22 million contract. The deal included a $105,000 signing bonus. 2009: $460,000, 2010: Restricted Free Agent
It doesn't surprise me though.

He obviously realizes that he will always be second fiddle to Flacco as long as Harbs and Cam are around.

Flacco is in it for the long haul. So why not try to go to a team with a healthy QB battle going on.

Nice timing, with the teams head already messed up. Maybe a trade with dancing with the stars? I don't watch that show, maybe they have someone who can run a little.

It's definitely a crap time for this kind of 'announcement'.

It might be some random bogus Twitter from a fan of one of the teams nipping at our heels, now that I think about it. But is Troy really the fastest? He's about .02 seconds faster than Joe in the 40, isn't he?

This just doesn't make sense.

Troy Smith is a restricted free agent after this year. The validity of this twitter post has lost its credibility unless troy smith signed some secret extension.

If anything Troy Smith just doesn't want us to resign him.

You know what, it must have something to do with the uncapped 2010 year. Maybe he isn't a UFA since he's been in the league <6 years or whatever it is. So maybe he's restricted and just doesn't want to be resigned by the Ravens.

I completely see where he's coming from wanting it though as you're right, he always will be #2 to Flacco and can't blame him for wanting a chance.

That might be it. If there is no bargaining agreement than a bunch of big name guys who would be free agents won't be. The biggest of them being Vincent Jackson.

I'm pretty sure the twitter account is legit. He created it quite a while ago and he's had convo's with Adam Schefter. He is being followed by people like Mike Duffy, Baltimore Sun Sports, and NFL live on ESPN. But.... no Troy Smith....

One thing I think both Troy Smith supporters and haters can agree on:

We'd like to see this happen. That way, one side can hopefully tell the other side:

"Told you so!"

Would be really funny to see him go to the Redskins. Playing his home games only about 50 minutes south of M&T Bank.

This is very interesting. I don't blame Troy for the timing of this announcement. It's not like he went to the media and said anything. His agent TWITTERED it. This is just the day and age we live in. And his agent is smart to do this now, while a lot of teams are already planning their off-season moves and targets.

If we give Troy a high enough tender, we could get a pretty high draft pick should another team match/exceed our offer... although, I am not sure of the rules for the upcoming uncapped season.

With all due respect to Mr.Smith and all he's accomplished in his college career...you have to be at LEAST 6-3" to be a legimate QB in the NFL. Sorry, that's the hard cold reality and even those tall guys are having their passes blocked.
