Foxworth Named Afc Defensive Player Of The Week

32 posts in this topic

Ravens Insider just tweeted the following...

@RavensInsider Domonique Foxworth has been named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Congrats to Foxworth...maybe be more good motivation for him going into this weeks big game. I saw Flacco is up for AFC air player of the week but haven't seen if he won yet.

I'll say he earned it, but should still send a fruit basket to Jay Cutler. Or maybe those balls that Cutler threw to Foxworth, since Cutler wants those passes back so badly. -_-

Yes, congrats to Foxworth. We need him to step up big time this week (and the rest of the year), with the loss of Webb... I don't think Flacco can compete with a 500+ yard performance, as hard as that is to say, even though his day was certainly worthy.

congrats to foxy...

Flacco doesnt stand a chance against what Jen did in Pittsburgh, althoughI think its his 3rd or 4th nomination, which is pretty good.

I don't recall seeing a lot of pub for Rice winning the FedEx Ground Player of Week 14

K did anyone else get an eeerie feeling when Foxworth sat on the quick slant and Cutler threw it right to him on a timing pass? Like Starks in the super bowl eerie? Not saying hes Starks but that play I was like whoa what the heck that was the exact same play call, exact same defense, and exact same outcome in the same spot just opposite sides of the field. Only difference was Foxworth ran 40 yards in a 5 yard circle and fell over like a chicken with his head cut off lol.

One of our corners not named Webb actually won something for a defensive performance? O_O

If Chris Carr ever does anything exemplary, you guys might not hear from me for a while. I could die of shock.

Wow! Congrats to Foxworth for his award, but i'm kind of surprised. I wonder if I just have a bias against him because if Webb or Rolle or C-Mac had a game like that I would have been way more excited. Well, at least he's playing better. Let's hope it is a trend of things to come!

I spit soda all over my screen when I read this title.

In my mind I went "wait...it was Foxworth?". But regardless, congrats to him for coming out in a Bears jersey.

Who's going to buy me a new monitor?

Honestly. Foxworth should bundle up the award and give it to Jay Cutler as a Christmas gift.
Cutler would then try to send it back but it would get picked off.

I chuckled when Billick called Foxworth, "Foxworthy." He must have watched the Blue Collar Comedy Movie (which happened to be on the night prior)

That is seriously the best signature ive ever seen!.........And I happen to think Domonique has done a fine job this season especially in the second half and doesnt deserve all the criticism he gets around here

Ok, guys, let's just stop it. Foxworth is every bit deserving of that award as anybody in the league. I have said many time during this up and down season that; the secondary just needs to improve JUST A LITTLE BIT to make this team competitive. Well, they have done that and it's time to stop bashing them and give them the credit they deserve. BTW, it's also time to stop bashing Greg Mattison too. This defense has improved dramatically. Heres the stats.

1. 11.8 - Points per game since Minn game - 1st in NFL - last 8 games

2. 16.1 - Points per game 2009 season - 2nd in NFL

3. 299.8 - Yards per game 2009 season - 4th in NFL

4. 99.5 - Rush yards per game 2009 - 8th in NFL - 80.0 in 2008

5. 200.3 - Pass yards per game 2009 - 6th in NFL - 191.1 in 2008

6. 2.0 - Takeaways per game 2009 - 6th in NFL - 2.3 in 2008

There you have it, the Ravens have been one of the top defensive teams in the league for the last 8 games, since we gave up 33 points to the Vikings on October 18th.

We need to stop "hating" and give Fox, Webb, Carr, Walker, Washington, Landry, Nakamura and Mattison,,,,,,,, all the credit they deserve. THEY HAVE EARNED IT.

The evidence you provide is pretty damning and solid all-around. But we both know very well that whenever the team struggles, there has to be a scapegoat -- and unfortunately, it's easiest for most fans to point to Greg Mattison or Domonique Foxworth, since both men were responsible for the team's EARLY struggles. It's unfair to them and doesn't speak to how much the entire defense has improved since the bye week.

A lot of people forgot about how Rex Ryan's defense struggled in 2005 before becoming the defense we all knew and loved. Though we'll never see as many exotic blitzes as in the past, I'll take a defense that keeps the opposing team out of the endzone any day, over one that just merely looks fancy but gives up points at the wrong time. That's not a knock on Rex's defense -- that's a knock on how we have grown accustomed to seeing our defenses. Solid defense doesn't have to be fancy...it just has to WORK.

I guess this just go to show how awful Cutler is. No offense to Foxworth, I'm happy for him.
Sorry, it's not just Cutler, this defense faced Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer during this 8 game stretch too. They gave up 17 points respectively to them each. That's very respectable and normally enough to win an NFL game. Remember the Ravens overall average is 16.1 and that's good enough for 2nd in the league.

I know that the secondary has drastically improved (we were eleventh overall before the Bears game- I haven't checked since). It's going to be a while though, before I can forget the early days. We were 23rd against the pass going into the bye. In comparison, Cleveland was 22nd.

Foxworth is still synonymous with burnt toast to me.

I wasn't too fond of this signature at first, but it's starting to grow on me. I figured it was appropriate for this week.

Foxworth has improved since the first half of the year, but in all honesty, he was terrible just like the rest of the corners. Did he grease his cleats before every game or were those what you call business decisions?

He doesn't get nearly as much criticism as guys like Chris Carr or Frank Walker, but I'm not sure that that is a great accomplishment.

First impression is always the strongest. Maybe we should all reassess Foxworth now that he has proper experience.

And I DO understand that as well. We have been treated to some tremendous defensive football over the years. Weren't ALL of these guys All Pro at one time or another? If not, they sure played like it.
