Kj Gerard

22 posts in this topic

I'm kind of exited about KJ possibly being the next man up. He showed just as much promise in the off season as Webb did (except in the return game). I hear a lot about resign Cmac and bring in so n so. I'm just wondering why there isn't buzz about this kid like there was for Web. Most of us on here follow the Ravens closely so not knowing about him is hardly an excuse.

He's bigger than Web prolly not as fast but maybe just as physical and Web has about 6 more career games than him. What's the problem?

I liked Webb too I just think most of ou r pushing the panic button because ur disappointed Webb got hurt. Me too but don't panic I believe KJ will be good...

I agree, he might be a bit rusty but he's a natural ballhawk. Elite speed as a defender is overrated, i'll take a ballplayer any day.

Whether it's him or Cary Williams, someone is going to have to step up. I heard Gerard was impressive in training camp. Now is his chance to make a serious impact.

Wasn't Gerard playing S in TC though?

This was something that confused me a little bit (information wise, not why do you change personnel-wise)

Gerard and Webb were safeties in college and switched to CB

I thought he was hurt.

He was inactive against the Bears because of a thigh injury. I'm hopeful he'll see time but I really think the coaching staff is as comfortable as they can be with Foxworth, Carr and Walker.

I agree, I really doubt Gerard or Williams will be playing any DB position against the Steelers next week.

Part of me think they'll have to though. The Steelers like to go with a bunch receiver formation where either four receivers take the field or Heath Miller acts as the fourth receiver. Ellerbe has flashed some range in pass coverage but I think it would be better if one of the corners covered.

i like kj a lot hopefully he plays against the steelers next week, cause theres nobody worse than carr or foxworth. if hes not good at covering hes at least good at tackling

Not saying I know everything... but I'm pretty sure if Walker and Carr have been starting over Gerard all year, Gerard won't be stepping in this game other than on special teams.

He has no experience, and putting him in an all or nothing game, against our biggest rivals, makes zero sense.

Edit - I AM assuming you meant Walker instead of Foxworth...

yeah i meant walker
webb wasnt starting when washington was down either and after some time webb took over the job because he was playing way better than carr an walker, so maybe kj will suprise a lot of people on this board and play very very well

i think against the steelers, walker will be in the starting line up cause he is the physical DB on our roster and we need that guy on hines ward. i think he played on ward last game all the time

I like him too and I think he can probably do a better job than most of the other guys out there. Most of the free agents available are older guys who have 10 layers of rust on them or guys who couldn't even get into the CFL. Gerard knows the defense better than anyone that they would bring in and was a training camp stand out racking up 3 picks a day. He's got good cover skills, flies to the ball, and can bring that physical presence we like to have in our secondary. I think he's put his time in, paid his dues, and should get a chance to contribute. Even if it's not a starting role, gametime experience on defense would be extremely valuable going forward.

It would be nice to get C-Mac back (for old time sake), but he has unfortunately lost a step and if he was that good the Saints never would have cut him. If we sign McAlister I'd rather move him to safety kind of like what we did with Rod Woodson. He can still hit and his lack of elite speed won't burn us as often at the safety position. If we sign him it's only going to be for the season, but if we play KJ, Cary Williams, or even Marcus Paschal. I think playing one of these guys would be an investment that could pay off going into next year, but in a boom or bust situation for this game. As much as I would like to see KJ get a shot, a coach wouldn't want to throw in a 1st time start against the Steelers with the playoffs on the line. Not to mention KJ was held out of the last game with a thigh injury.

Looks like we got Ivy back :-( I wonnder if KJ is stil injured w that thigh an be inactive again or will he be available to play. I really don't like Ivy although he has played decent against the Steelers.

Its KJ on IR, Marcus Paschal off the practice squad. Personally I think Walker could have played S as well as any practice squad guy and we could have snatched up a high potential corner like Mike Mickens from Cincy for next season.

As long as we're in the playoff hunt I don't think we'd put Reed on IR even if his arm was falling off.
