cant knock the hustle

Demetrius

41 posts in this topic

If this man can stay healthy, he's got all the tools to be a number 1 in this league. Speed, height, great hands, can get up with great technique, solid route runner that's bound to improve... Joe Flacco had a smile on his face when Demetrius brought in that TD after getting knocked around by a PI, and you could see some confidence between the two when Flacco came back with a similar throw up in the endzone.

We gotta bring him back next year, I like what I'm seeing. Pair him up with somebody, like a Chaz Schilens from Oakland, and have Clayton play the slot where he would thrive given his skills. Flacco was out there just doing what he can do, big day.

Williams made a nice play and now it's just getting him more involved in the offense. I'm all for bringing him back next year but we all know that next year, our WR core will look nothing like it does now.

It's not just staying healthy, D-Will also has to continue to make the most of the opportunities he's given. If you'll all remember, he was briefly the starter across from Derrick Mason in 2007 for a couple of games, rotated with Mark Clayton, until an injury ended his season. Then in 2008, in an injury-plagued season, he failed to break away from the pack. This year, he was invisible on the field in preseason and didn't make the most of every pass thrown to him earlier in the year.

If D-Will can continue to make plays, he'll continue to see the field. Simple as that. For now, he's still growing, as far as we know.

i love this kid.. him and harper deserve much more playing time. and for those who say we will not look no where near as good as this year in the recieving core u are def wrong. hopefully we have kelly, demtrius and then harper and riley all big guys who can stretch the field.. i like just this group right here, thats if riley and harper can take a big leap offseason, minicamps and training camps and i really believe that they will

I have been pulling for DWill for awhile now and I am glad to see him producing. I feel like maybe he didn't learn the playbook fully thats why he wasn't playing. I saw a couple times Mason or Flacco had to tell him where to line up. I feel like he wont be expensive to keep next year and he has alot of potential

I hate for a guy to lose his job due to injury (Clayton), but D-Will is making plays and we need that for the long run. I hope Kelley is back next week for the Steelers; we need his toughness and veteran savvy.

Williams looked good in this game when given the chance to make a play but the verdict is still out on him like others have already said. However, he does deserve more playing time and with the way Clayton recovers from injury he will most likely get just that. I also liked the way Flacco greeted him after that TD, it was like Flacco was telling him, "I told you so..keep working and I will find you!" It showed some what of a bond or some chemistry between the two and thats always good to see from more then just Mason and Rice. Great game today and looks like a big one coming against Pittsburgh again..Go Ravens!!

the injuries were related, you need to take a course in sports medicine , a ankle spur can show up as leg ptoblems, then once it big enough to be seen it can be remedied , so your "info" is kindly invalid at this stage

Like Franchise said, as long he continues to make plays, he'll get playing time. I doubt he's brought back next year but he can certainly make it a tough decision for the coaches if he continues to make plays.

I don't have much time left in my college career, so can't take a course if I wanted to.

In all seriousness, though, he had a case of the drops in the preseason the few times he was thrown to, and there were times where he failed to get separation. Though you have a strong point in that the injury was likely the cause of this, it's still hard to say it was the sole reason he failed to establish himself. Again, the NFL is all about opportunities and making the most of them -- just ask Troy Smith.

I need to see a little bit more before I can say I want him back. Having a great game against the Steelers will definitely make me consider it.

Whether or not Mason returns next year, I think we will be just fine. With Williams starting to show what he can do, Smith should be back in full force and I am one to believe he can be a true number 2 for us. Harper will be a beast as soon as he finds his hands. That should be corrected this off season. Riley has got the potential as well. Washington is a necessary piece that we need to bring back. Pick up a great number 2 or even a 1 from FA and or the draft, Flacco will have all the weapons he needs and more. I hope this season goes well into the playoffs and even more for the Ravens but I have to admit I am so excited to see what the offseason brings for this team. No rush though. HA

He's got the potential and the opporatunity, lets see what he does with it. Hopefully he'll burn Troy(if he plays) again for a TD like in '06 :)

D Will has had a few flashes of greatness in the past but he can not stay healthy. Definitely not a guy to put all our hopes on.
agreed. but just for now he is looking very good and it seems him and joe r kind of the same page. hope one of our young guns turns out to become a really great receiver because we need that in purple city for joe and also for ray rice. passing opens the run and run opens the pass...

This isn't to say that I'm not a fan of harvesting the potential of Williams but let's face it, our defensive will progressively get worse every season as Ray Lewis and Ed Reed get older. My idea is we go for an elite WR this offseason and draft a good WR in the 2nd round and putting Williams at #2 (given Mason retires) and letting him develop as the season goes on. If we also address the CB in FA/Draft we should have ALL the necessary pieces for a dominant season. My point is we can't enlist all faith in Williams as our #1 next year because he is still extremely unproven and consistently injured.

I'm not saying he should be our number 1 right now, or even at the beginning of next year. This guy has the potential to be a number 1 receiver in this league, and it is becoming more evident as he gets increased reps with each week. He was a top tier wideout in college but was held back because of nagging leg injuries, and the same has been the case so far in his time with the Ravens. He made Kellen Clemens look much better than he actually was coming out of Oregon because of his ability to consitently bring in the deep pass. He's good at getting separation at the second level, has great jumping ability, and has very strong hands which are evident in his sound technique catching the football. Despite his slighter frame, which, because of his height, he has room to build, he is resilient going over the middle and fights for jump balls. He reminds me of Vincent Jackson, who has become a top 10 receiver in this league. Great deep threat who came in to San Diego somewhat unheralded and took a couple of years to develop a rapport with Philip Rivers but has since become an elite wideout. Jackson has a much bigger frame than Williams at 6'5, 230, but they have a similar skill set and I think that Williams could follow a path to becoming a top wideout in this league that is very close to what Jackson did in San Diego.

I've been saying this for 3 years now. If he stays healthy he should be our go to guy unless we pick up a Pro Bowl WR a la Boldin or Marshall next season.

Why is he injury-prone?
Well if Kyle didn't get him killed on nearly every throw he probably be in better condition. He battles his way from a college injury plays hard for a bed QB and had nothing to show for it but injuries. D-will has shown he will try to go up and get everything even in traffic and he shouldn't have too. Last season he had some re-accruing inj in the pre season and guess who was here... Kyle.

He should sign a 2 yr deal with us again

The Ravens organization has been probably working on D Williams for awhile now. The reason being that it is the first time I seen him come to life.. He has a marvelous game lets hope it continues.

My concern is Clayton will return this week. We need to see another week with D.Will at #2. Clayton costs us games and the few catches D.Will has made have been major game contributing plays. He needs his chance and we need our best players on the field these last 2 games and sorry but Clayton doesn't fit in to that category. If Clayton starts over D.Will I'm going to lose it.
