Chris Henry Dead at Age 26 (CONFIRMED)

115 posts in this topic

Well as it is being reported here, his fiance (the driver of the pickup) kept on driving without reporting the incident. Sounds like more than Chris was at fault here. But regardless, it is a terrible tragidy and a great loss to his family and friends, the Bengals organization, and the City of Cincinnati. He was just starting to get his act together.

R.I.P. Chris. You will be missed!

Agreed.

We all have decisions we have to make. What ever actions we take, we have to be ready to suffer the consequences. Riding in the back of a pickup truck going at x speed is a conscious decision that led to a reasonable consequence.

But I do feel bad for the people that loved him and his kids.

Very sad. 26 years old, father.....I really feel for his family and him as well. By all accounts he was really trying to turn things around.

RIP Chris Henry.

Sorry for his family, I heard he was a crappy person though. I'm not one of those people who hop on the bandwagon after soomeone dies.

This blog post on Yahoo! Sports perfectly sums up my feelings on the situation (with significant parts in bold):
That's the tragedy here. It's not that we'll miss out on seeing a man who could have been a brilliant player, it's that someone who had once been so far down the wrong path could have come back. He was on his way. If things had continued to go the way they were headed, Chris Henry could have one day stood in front of the world as an example that no matter what you've done in the past, that your future can be better. He could have told the at-risk youth of the world, "Yes, it can be difficult to change the direction of your life, but it can be done, and you have the power to do it. I did it, and you can do it."

What a great thing that could've been for the world to have. Too many times, a gifted person comes along, and we automatically make them a role model. Inevitably, they end up doing something to let us down. The truth is, though, that those were never the role models we needed. The role models we need are the people who let us down first, and then show the strength and character to fight back from that.

Sooner or later, we're all going to let somebody down. We're all going to screw up. But life is about how you come back from it, how you learn from it and how you use it to make yourself a better, stronger person.

Chris Henry was becoming that guy. And we could have used that.

RIP Chris

Man, I'm going to the Chargers/Bengals game this weekend. I was so excited for this & now all I feel is sadness. 26 is way too young to die. Yes, he had his problems, but who doesn't at such a young age. As he got older, he was learning from his past mistakes. at least that's what I noticed in the last interview I saw. we've all done stupid things when it comes to matters of the heart. I've jumped out of a moving car during a fight.....

so freaking sad

Not sure who you "KNOW" that "KNEW" him? If noone, then you are simply speaking ill of the dead based on something someone who did not KNOW Chris has said about him. Your parents must be proud.

In a nut shell it sounds like he beat his fiance and she was leaving and he jumped into her truck and fell out....this dude has had a lot of problems and im not going to act like he was a good person. That being said the Vikings better look out cuz the Bengals are pissed.

You mean the Chargers. The Bengals already lost to the Vikings.

Ochocinco's wearing Henry's jersey at practice today.

Reports say she had no marks on her. This happened when leaving her parents home, so I wouldn't just throw around your insane ideas about someone who just died.

geez, he's not even cold yet, but you sure are.

RIP Chris Henry

This is tragic, but I can't say that I am really surprised it happened how it did (during a domestic dispute) He had such a promising future...

Agreed 100%. As the saying goes "Suffice the day will end and the end be known". The fact will out themselves in time. Why Jump to a conclusion based on wild media speculation? Why throw common decency out the window and disrespect the dead?

One fact that has been verified is that SHE left him laying in the street and continued to drive off. A passerby found him and reported it. Perhaps you have the wrong bad guy?

A death, ANY death, is a tragedy. Necessary, but tragic. It doesn't matter what you think you know about Chris Henry. He lost his life, and that is what we should mourn.

I'm not the religious type. I dont believe that when my time comes, that I'm going to be anything more than worm food. Which to me, makes how you live that much more important.

I always pulled for Chris, for personal reasons. Not because I knew him, or his family. I didn't. I pulled for him because I can relate to a lot of his struggles. I had my own demons as a youth, and taking control of the situations at hand, and taking back control of my life, was the hardest thing imagineable. I overcame it. And by all accounts, Chris was well on his way to overcoming his demons.
I dont know or care what the circumstances of his death was. It is irrelevant. He was doing the best that he could, from what has been told in the recent past. You cannot ask anything more than that of a person.

It is a painful day for his family. I hope that after the grief becomes a little less overwhelming, that they will be able to celebrate the last days of his life, and to be thankful for the time that they were given with him.

It was once said." if you have nothing nice to say, then just say nothing at all". It sounds like you do not know what really happened other than the tragic death of Chris Henry in what could have been nothing more than a verbal altercation that ended in tragedy. R.I.P. Chris Henry.

This is a tragedy. He was a talented kid whose redemption was burgeoning.

I can't seem to shake the Raven connection in this event. Players commonly address the distance and depression they feel when put on IR. Surely being on IR allowed Chris to be in Charlotte when a healthy Chris would have been in Cinci at practice. Maybe the frustration of being on IR was a catalyst to an argument that cost him his life.

Our defense broke his forearm. Had he not been injured, this may have never happened.

I'm not saying the ravens D is responsible for his death, just put him down a path that had this ending as a possibility. Just like if the offensive coordinator for the Bengals called a different play on the down he broke is arm. Or if he had spun a different direction during the YAC or if the impact on his arm was an inch to the right or left.

It is just crazy how so many events had to line up for this tragic outcome to be a reality.

Very very sad, someone with such a bright future gone so young.

I always dreaded playing him, he seemed to burn us quite a bit, he was a great player.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Injuries happen. No one in the Ravens organization or their fans should ever think this. We all travel a path and that path is twisted and turned by our choices. Chris chose to play the game he loved and as I said, injuries are a part of that game. If the injury on the field set him on a path to his death it was God's design and we are not to understand why. JMHO

Crazy when you think about how if he didn't get injured in our game against them, he would have been with his team instead. Of course, that doesn't mean something similar to this never would have happened anyway... Feel bad for his kids though.

Rest in peace chris

Everyone has done stuff in their lives that they are not proud of or are embarrassed by and that they should not have done, but it is at times like this that we should forget these moments of wrong doings and bad decisions, look past these and remember the good moments, the talent and the positives in their lives and those they touched positively within those lives.

deepest sympathies to all of Chris Henrys family and all at the Bengals organization
