I just realized that back in 2008 we traded back in the 2nd round and aquired Rice. If we had stayed put we could have picked up Desean Jackson.

So my question is who would you rather have but just for this year?

Long term I would rather have Rice because as rare as playmaking WRs are I think complete 3 down running backs are even more rare.

However, with regards to this season we would still have McGahee (he's probably gone after this season) and McClain to handle the running. However, adding a guy like Jackson to our weak WR core in my opinion would have meant a win in New England, Minnesota, and at least one of the Cincy games.

What do you guys think?

There's no doubt that both are incredible athletes. I actually have both on my fantasy team, lol. I would take Rice though. He's proven to be a top running back with dependable hands (which has helped us in the receiving aspect). It can go either way to be honest, but I like what Rice has done for us. Granted we'll still need a receiver next draft, I would rather have a top runner with decent receivers than one deep threat receiver and two short yardage runners.

Do you realize that you just described Derrick Mason in his younger years?

And your point? I would not give up Ray for Mason either.

SO easily Ray.
Remember the sensation that was Devin Hester a couple of years ago? Remember Yamon Figurs as a rook? Desean is better from scrimmage than both of them put together, but he's not a true receiver. He can outrun a DB on a 9 but that's it. Those slender burners get a beating for a year or two and they're never the same. Mason isn't an apt comparison because even in his younger days he had sure hands and an excellent work ethic. I wouldn't call Jacksons hands sure, but he can pull off some spectacular catches, so he can do it if he puts the work in. But then, will he?

I'd like us to cut back on Ray's touches wherever we can for the long run, but he's built now. He can take a hit every snap of the game and he'll be the same Ray Rice the next week. Plus, when you've got a runner that can just put a team on his back, it's much more valuable than a game breaking reciever. Someone has to find the receiver, you can just hand it to a Ray Rice and watch him work.

It's not like we're talking someone who can't be guarded like Marshall, Calvin Johnson or the TO of a few years ago. This is someone who can on occasion make a big play. Rice makes plays all day long, moving the chains, and throwing in the odd big gain as well.

I love ray but I would say desean jackson. How many teams have game breaking WR's and how many teams have game breaking running backs. I think I could name more for the RB's. You'll get alot of pro bowl WR's that are solid WRs even but are not game busters like desean.

I feel that Ray Rice is a better choice because Ray Rice is great, and I think that he still has room to progress. I also don't think that DeSean Jackson is that great.
