Desean Jackson Or Ray Rice

70 posts in this topic

I just realized that back in 2008 we traded back in the 2nd round and aquired Rice. If we had stayed put we could have picked up Desean Jackson.

So my question is who would you rather have but just for this year?

Long term I would rather have Rice because as rare as playmaking WRs are I think complete 3 down running backs are even more rare.

However, with regards to this season we would still have McGahee (he's probably gone after this season) and McClain to handle the running. However, adding a guy like Jackson to our weak WR core in my opinion would have meant a win in New England, Minnesota, and at least one of the Cincy games.

What do you guys think?

I think its a toss-up. Either way you'd get a dangerous player. I think Jackson edges out Rice by a little bit.

The last thing this team needs is another undersized talented receiver. If we rolled out DeSean Jackson with our 2WR set I doubt his production is the same as it is with the eagles. Who throw 75% of the time with 5 & 4 WR sets, bunch formation, etc. DeSean is great partly because of the Eagles throwing system.

For our current team and our gameplan. I'd still take Ray Rice.

Plus I'm a downer on undersized recievers no matter how great they are.

I have to go with Ray all the way.I think we are only scratching the suface when it comes to his talents and how the coaching staff utilizes them.

ray rice. DeSean Jackson isnt a football player in my mind. I think he is the most over rated player in the league and is only good for punt returns and running deep. He is afraid to go across the middle and only runs one route. he is very over rated.

Here come all the people calling me crazy, giving me neg rep and telling me he has 8 TD's

Desean Jackson. easily. I love Ray Rice and he is our offense but Willis or McClain can run the ball. And honestly McGahee was a recieving back for us in 2007 ranking 3rd on receptions list.

DeSean Jackson is one of two players in history with two kickoff return TDs, at least one TD rushing and receiving, and 1,000 yards from scrimmage in a season. The other? Gale Sayers (1966 and 1967).

That's pretty impressive, but I will still take Rice over Jackson... he wouldn't fit in Cam's system at all.

i would take RAY RICE any day, y, because he runs the ball and catch the ball too, and he's dangerous as a receiver and RB.

Ray Rice every day of the week and twice on Sunday!

DeSean Jackson would be dead already if he played in this division. He's got speed and a big mouth. The only other thing he brings to the table is immaturity.

Of course Ray's our guy, so I am admittedly biased. But even with that said, I think they have equal value to the teams they play for.

If you took either off their respective teams, there would be no one to replace them from theor current rosters. But,,,,,, if you traded them for one another, then Jackson would mean more to the Ravens, then Rice would mean to the Eagles.

The Eagles already have small and fast backs who can catch the ball out of the backfield, but if Jackson came to the Ravens TO PLAY WITH FLACCO!!!!! YIKES!!!!

It's really hard to be unbiased about whod we rather pick, especially me with my purple shades on ...but yeah, its a toss-up. Youre comparing a short, quick, extremely fast and explosive wide receiver with attitude issues in Desean Jackson against a quick but not as explosive, versatile Ray Rice who can out-juke anybody and get bursts of yard. Both fit their schemes perfectly, but considering the Ravens scheme, we would need a big, quick (not necessarily fast) receiver who can catch the ball and run crisp routes. Desean Jackson would do good with us no doubt, but i think hes doing better with McNabb and his spread set.

Can I have both?

I'd take Ray Rice because:

1. Ray Rice is much less of a character issue (i put character first just for Harbs)
2. Flacco already misses Clayton and Mason deep, and Jackson mostly excells at deep routes
3. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jackson in legal trouble within the next few years
4. He would probably already be dead (as warden already mentioned)

I agree with 1, 2, and 4. Your 3rd statement is a bold assumption, and just plain rude.

Rice works as hard as anyone else on our team, and it shows. Harbaugh and co. love that.

I'd take Rice, because RBs are more important in our offensive system, and as mentioned, Mason and Clayton are 2 short receivers who excel at the long ball but Flacco only hits them 30% of the time for a big play.

Both are play makers, but give me Rice short term, and long term.

Ray Rice. Yeah, Desean Jackson is a talent. But right now McNabb's release is faster than Joe's which causes more shock value combined with Jackson's speed. Watch Joe's setup and release on a long ball versus the McNabb/Jackson TD's. It's just different at this time in Joe's career.

Besides, Ray is showing the beginning of a stellar career. He's a second year guy who can change games. He's got the attitude, the effort and the ability. And he's Joe's support who will hopefully get to around 2,000 all-purpose yards in season 2. And he's a threat every single down.

i mean your asking the question of
Do you want a top 5 back in this league or a punt returner who is fast

Jackson is very cocky, immature and just inst a raven type player. As a few others have said he would die being in this division. i dont like him at all as a player or person

So you agree that Jackson has a character issue and that he's soft but you singled out the legal comment to call rude. Aite whatever.

^^^that's it right there!

D-Jack is a bad boy..no doubt. however, he is "undersized" and gets crushed when a team plays BnR against him! the only reason why he is blowing by defensive secondaries is cause they don't pop or jam him up at the line on the regular. now....when D-Jack puts up huge numbers against a CB like Nnamdi Asomugha from the Raiders (who live in the "in-your-face" bump and run man coverage)...then get @ me!

my choice.....RAY RICE....hands down!

P.S. haven't you seen the stiff-arm on this cat? LETHAL!!!

It's a good thing he's in a soft division like the NFC East. He only has to play top ten defenses at least six times a year. What would he do if he played in Baltimore and had to face the Browns?

Rice is our leading rusher. Rice is our leading receiver. Rice is a pass-blocker.

Jackson could be our leading receiver, we wouldn't get that all round use that we do from Rice, however.

So I'm happy with Ray; but DeSean Jackson is a fantastic player too.

Ray Rice! He can change the game at any moment and come up with a monster play. In Baltimore Ravens franchise history, I dont think we have ever had a player on offense that can affect a game like Ray Rice does.

Jackson is a monster in Philly, but thats in Philly. I dont think he would fit our system or be able to take the abuse of the AFC North

Ray Rice is the pick for me because good WR come more often then good RB's... Plus Rice can catch and block some which is great thing to have in a RB.

I'd take Rice easily because he fits our team needs better than D-Jax. If it weren't for Webb's emergence as a returner this would have been a little closer.

lol i read the whole thread before commenting and the only thing i could think of was what if webb wasnt back there making magic on kickoff's id bet there be some love for D Jax then.. some of u hating him a little too much.. yea he is a deep threat but u all acting like the NFC East is a pansy division.. it aint the NFC West..

but id still take rice.. since we got webb as our kick returner that cancels out half of jackson's abilities
