Ravens Moving Oher To Left Tackle?

I don't think letting go of Gaither would be a good idea. Hearing this news makes me feel very ambivalent. I'd feel more reassured with one of them on each side. Who would we get to rep;lace Gaither?
Yep Oher emerging as a solid tackle so fast (as we expected) almost worries me that the coaching staff will think Gaither is expendable. In reality having both of these guys on the ends is what we NEED. Then we can get back to our TE sets and having these maulers open running lanes on both sides of the line...

Just because Oher is believed to be able to handle the left side better than Gaither doesn't mean we should get rid of Gaither. I am worried the coaches will trade Gaither because he will demand LT money (and rightfully so). I just hope Gaither is willing to take a hometown discount, and stay with us.

A dream scenerio would be Gaither and Oher working out a deal together where they both make sub left tackle money, but are content enough to stay on the team knowing they will rip things up.

Yeah..Gaither was heir apparent to JO until Oher came along. I'm just scared about the fact that Gaither is working with Drew Rosenhaus. That guy is a shark.

Yep, Gaither has been an average-above average LT up until now. Keep in mind he is only 23, and will develop even more experience and size. Rosenhaus will want LT money for him, because if we don't do it, another team will.

That scares me as well. But Gaither was born and played school in MD. So I'm hoping he tells Drew that he'll like to stay in MD.

Hopefully that doesn't mean Drew working out a monster contract with the Redskins. *killer* We all know they need help on the OL.

OMG Rocky please......you're making me nauseous with the thought.

I guess it will come down to Gaither deciding what's more important. Does he appreciate the fact that the Ravens took a chance on him when no one else would? I'm just scared to death that the money is going to talk louder.

I don't understand how all of a sudden people are suggesting using Cousins as a future starter. He had a decent game against the Lions. The guy is a bum. He has the physical attributes but he'll never be able to put the pieces together.

Obviously nobody remembers the 5 horrible outings he has last year. Or his horrible outing in preseason against scrubs.

And no maybe he hasn't turned a corner. If we start him, we're in trouble.

Oher to LT makes sense. He is our best OL man. He does star in the movie the blind side.

This leaves a question mark for Gaither.
Not really, he will just have to move to RT, and get paid as such...

But he is in a contract year. I'm sure there's plenty of other teams out there that will give him LT money. *cough* Redskins.

It's just not as easy as switching him to RT and paying him accordingly. Try telling that to Rosenhaus and see what he says.

The Ravens could have opened discussions with Drew Rosenhaus and found out it will be tough to keep Gaither. Therefore they will cement Oher in at LT.

Rosenhaus is bad news period! :shrk:
Yeah....the man terrifies me.

When I heard that Gaither had signed on with him, I felt back then that the news might not be good for us.

*sigh*

Could be a good move. But, this article is saying it's a possibility right? Not definite.
Yeah, I guess you could say it's only a possibility. Kinda like a possibility of taxes and death and pregnancy producing a baby. Yeah, I see what you mean. :229031_rofl:

is it just me or has gaither been out due to injuries 4-5 games this year and could seriously have an impact on his contract next year? I think ozzie will put that out there when we try to resign him. He's a slightly above average LT and has been out quite a bit this year so i think that will make him have to take RT money.

I personally would be more comfortable to see Gaithers at Left tackle this year. According to the Article even JO feels the same way..

I think letting go of Gaither would be a huge mistake.

But if you could work a deal for either Brandon Marshall or Calvin Johnson straight up... DO IT.

There are no corners in the league worth a tackle like Gaither, not even Revis. But for either of those two receivers, you HAVE to make that deal. Wouldn't mind going after Demarcus Ware either... but that's never happening.

Johnathon Ogden Could play with his eyes closed and no defensive guy would run through his side of the field...

Pay the man what he deserves period. 6-6 350 are you kidding me. We need him and you don't find many like him. Keep the o-line solid and everything will be o.k. Let him go and you'll see. We will never let you forget it.

What do you guys think Rosenhaus will demand? 6 years for $50 million?
Sounds about right. He might stretch for a bit more because of the uncapped year.

Jason Peters of the Eagles set the new bench mark, signing a 6 year 60 million contract in the offseason.

Offensive linemen are the hot paying ticket right in the NFL currently. For most teams, the left tackle is around the 3rd highest paid player on the team.

I wouldn't be surprised if Drew could get a deal like 6 years for 75 million from a team like the Redskins.

I was talking to my friend the other day about this...He was saying that a Left Tackle 6 years in the league is getting old. Teams like to get them young. I see more teams taking a chance on a young LT in the draft...Don't be surprised if a Tackle went the first pick this year. A lot of teams are looking to strengthen their O-line in the offseason...

apparently the ravens office believes that if they can get a first rounder for jared they will let him go. So if they tender him with just the 1st round pick dont be surprised if he is let go and we have a Oher and Cousins combo. Cousins was very raw coming out of college but had the potential to be a first round pick many believe. Manbe he is becoming that player now. Just maybe.

I love Jared Gaither but from a money standpoint it makes sense to let him go. He is injured quite a bit, when he gets a new contract will he slack off, there where huge character concerns when he was at maryland remember. He is worth about 7 mil per year but if they demand more id tender him and trade him. Then we can target WR and the pass rush with our two first round picks.

dont get me wrong though i would love to have gaither and oher together forever.

Would love this. But I doubt we get a 1st for him. And no, Onel will not be that guy. He has raw talent which is pretty much his size. But he lacks football mentality and smarts. If we start him next year, it won't be pretty.

The money situation has become a concern. We can't move him to RT and expect to pay him RT money. While there will be a lot of teams willing to give him LT money. But if we have Onel as starting RT it won't matter if we get a high-skilled WR because we won't have the time.

I don't think I've heard that from an official source before. O.o

I hope we don't end up with Cousins as a starter.

tony lombardi (i think it was him) reported that if they got a 1st for hin they would let him walk and not match the offer. Also i think your basing cousins game of how he performed last year and also in pre season. A lot can change in that time for a player that was as raw as cousins was. Im not saying we should do it but just putting the option on the table. Cousins did great against the lions and was very good in the running game. He was destroying people out there. Lets see how he goes this week before judging him like he is trash when he is still developing.

Also do you have some beef with me PuRock because i posted a well thought out post and a post that wasnt stupid at all and was longer than a sentance and yet you tear it to shreds.
