Ravens Moving Oher To Left Tackle?

68 posts in this topic

I'm all for it I mean Oher is the definition of "Play Like A Raven" but what does it mean for Gaither? Gaither has played LT ever since he has tooken over for JO so now does this mean when he hits the free agency we'll pay him as a RT or LT? I think too now the Ravens might have put themselfs in a box similar to Jason Brown, I believe he wanted to be paid as a Guard and not a Center(or vice versa) so will Gaither want to be paid as a LT or a RT?

To the topic, Oher looked really good at left tackle. Mind you, it was the Lions. All the same, he got the job done very efficiently. The left side of our line did an excellent job creating seems for Rice, which translated into his career day.

I would have shared the game ball between Rice, Oher and Grubbs.

Here's the full article. I laughed when Ogden says that "you should never let a first round pick play your position when you are injured. LOL!

I think you are on to something. I made this comment earlier in the year that the Ravens can not and will not be able to afford to pay both of these guys Left Tackle money. And they need to make that descision sooner rather than later. Gaither is a good decent player. Oher has the upside of a MONSTER>

lol " Mine came when I kicked a guy in the chest from the Jets" hahahah classic, love ya JO. I dont know what they're going to do, but in hindsight they should keep in mind whoever they line up at each T position has to face Woodley or Harrison. Whoever matches up better for those two guys may be the answer. I dont know if I would ever see a RT as big as Gaither though. And If Cousins somehow gets worked into the equation and Gaither gets let go in FA I might puke.

I agree, and now that the Ravens put themselfs in a box this late in the year, they may run into the same issue they had with Brown. Gaither is pretty good don't get me wrong, but ok. Oher has 5 years on his rookie deal, if he shifts over to LT even in 2011 or even next year, when his deal expires he'll want something that the current top LT's are getting now.

Gaither meanwhile who played LT his whole career as a Raven will be moved to the right side and paid RT money. LT money is higher than RT. He may take the money just like Jason Brown if he don't want to play the right tackle position and get paid to play Left Tackle. If Gaither leaves because he doesn't want to play right tackle which I believe he would gladly do to stay a Raven for life and he don't seem like the kind of player who would leave a team just for the money. Especially with him being a local product. Say he does than the Ravens are back to square one with a hole on the right side and no franchise RT.

Left tackle is the guy's natural position, so of course Oher would get more than just a few looks there. That said, this isn't exactly the worst dilemma to have, having two tackles who can play both sides and play them well. If they can pay both, great. If not, at least this is a much better decision to make than having to choose between a risky free agent and an unknown quantity of a rookie in the draft.

We fans can't complain, it's certainly better than the leaky O-line situation of 2005 and 2007, that's for sure.

:plus-un2: I agree. We can't complain I mean when you can have two guys at one position play either side it's great because you can really give it an unbalanced line look that Cam likes. Now just like Hammer above me said I also am dying to find out what happens with the labor agreement and if we can get a new CBA deal in place.

Without a new CBA we could afford to pay Gaither and Ngata this off-season but with a new CBA, if there would be any way possible we could afford to keep both Gaither and Oher, and Ngata Ravens for life under the Salary Cap that would be great.

The Jason Brown comparison is certainly something to think about. Let us hope the FO is able to make a decision that is not so costly.

I don't understand how all of a sudden people are suggesting using Cousins as a future starter. He had a decent game against the Lions. The guy is a bum. He has the physical attributes but he'll never be able to put the pieces together.

Obviously nobody remembers the 5 horrible outings he has last year. Or his horrible outing in preseason against scrubs.

And no maybe he hasn't turned a corner. If we start him, we're in trouble.

Oher to LT makes sense. He is our best OL man. He does star in the movie the blind side.

This leaves a question mark for Gaither.

Dont hate me but as of right now this is what I see for next year. Oher at LT, Cousins at RT, and the money we would have used on Gaither we spend on a good, experienced WR....sound good?

How tall is Oher? ive seen him listed at 6'4" 6'5" and 6'6"
Anything under 6'6" is generally short for a LT, but he's done very well there regardless of whatever his height is.
For the love of god, i think we'd be able to find a better FA rt or even move yanda to tackle and find a guard. That'd work out better than cousins at RT

I wont hate on you, but Flacco would be getting his chestal region lit up from the right side all year long and wouldnt even be able to get the ball to the high priced FA WR.

In all honesty if you look at it the Harrison-Woodley way we should have Oher on the Blind Side to cover the quicker Harrison. Woodley isn't nearly as fast as Harrison but he has serious power. Next season stick Oher on the left and Gaither on the right, it makes perfect sense.

I don't think letting go of Gaither would be a good idea. Hearing this news makes me feel very ambivalent. I'd feel more reassured with one of them on each side. Who would we get to rep;lace Gaither?
