Agreed, but it also is a good way to ensure the Troy situation doesn't happen. The only 2 selections last season that I disagreed with were Favre and Derrick Brooks. But I am sure the coaches/players did it more as a last hurrah career achievement for both because they thought both would retire. But 2/50 selections being questionable is not bad at all.

It is really bad in the NBA were Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming are leading vote getters. Both haven't played all season and may be "all star starter selections"...that is ridiculous? Good thing the NFL starters are based only on fan vote.
good thing. Arent MLB starters based on fan vote as well? I think there are like 3 or 4 extra spots that players and coaches vote on and the actual coaching staff for the nl and al teams picks the pitchers, I think.

what? no Ray Rice on the ballot? wow!

he's on there. They only show the leading vote-getters in each position.

Rice isn't getting a lot of votes because he isn't getting a lot of media attention due to our lackluster season... he'll get in, but only thanks to his peers and coaches.

Rice will get in, no doubt. Id be more worried about Ed not getting in because of the coach/player vote, unless he plays well these next 3 weeks.

That's what matters. Unless ESPN is hyping a player, few fans care to find out who the best players are.

I know, right. Who the hell is Heath Farwell? Must be nothing better to do up there in Minnesota :229031_rofl:
The sad part is Shiancoe SHOULD be getting more votes than Gonzo right now, but it seems like once someone gets in 3 or 4 times that people just vote for them, bc they've been there so many times. You know thats why Ray and Ed are leading their positions. Regardless of how well they actually play year-to-year they are pretty much household names at their respective positions even to casual fans.

For example, even if Troy wins the fan vote he WILL NOT be selected because the 2/3 coach and player vote will outweigh the 1/3 fan vote. The coaches/players will not vote for someone you has played so little.

This "popularity contest" excuse is something disgruntled fans of players who don't make the game always use. Normally there are only 1-2 guys tops who get in who shouldn't but 95% of the selections are worthy in my mind.

Now, if the fan vote alone determined the pro bowl roster we would be in trouble because it would be awful.

Jay Cutler v. Phillip Rivers anyone?

What other MLB or FS will you choose? Ray and Ed are head and shoulders above the rest of the offerings from the AFC, in terms of name recognition and impact on the field.

Wow!

11 Viking players, that's crazy. It might as well be AFC vs Minnesota.

It seems like the Vikings are the new Cowboys.

Michael Oher also deserves a Pro Bowl nod... he's been a beast on the right (and left) side of the line.

P.S. They have Lardarius Webb's name spelled as "Ladarius" under "Kick Returners"... how annoying.

Schiancoe is good. I prefer my boy Brent Celek though. Regardless, the Pro Bowl is a joke. What annoys me is when a player puts together several years of Pro Bowl-worthy production and doesn't get it.

Ngata is going to be another guy like that unless he develops into a better pass-rushing D-Lineman

Thank you! I love Derrick and he's put together an incredible career but don't get me started on how the NFL lets down London Fletcher yearly. The guy has done nothing but make tackles for over a decade. He may be the most underrated player in the league period.

He just needs more visibility. If we make it into the playoffs and at least to the second game so he can show off to a national audience then some more people might catch on. I do agree with you though. Linemen dont always have the flashiest sack numbers, but he only has .5 right now. Get that number up to 4-5 per year then we're talking.

Did you know that despite all those tackles Fletcher only had 47 in his entire career for loss. Compare that to Ray's 95 for loss and you will see the difference.

Fletcher has always been a victim of the numbers game because only 2 players make it at ILB and he didn't play better than Beason or Willis this season or last.

I'd give that title to D-Mase, personally. How many years has he been receiving passes from Baltimore Raven's quarterbacks and still gotten 1,000 yards receiving?

Obviously Ray is a better player.

I agree that Willis and Beason are better and have been for a few years but Fletcher was playing a Pro Bowl-caliber player going back to his years with the Bills and Rams.

I think ESPN actually had Mason as the most underrated player in the league earlier in the season. People definitely don't give him enough credit.

They sure did: http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/news/story?id=4272008

I think last year's performance raised his profile.

I stand corrected on the number of 100 yards rushing games for Benson. It was indeed only 5. I was confussed and counted in Scott's and LJ's games. My bad. But still Benson is an impressive running back and you must admit he can line up in an obvious running formation and the defense is dared to stop him and more often than not they can not. 4.1 a carry is unimpressive to you? Lets see. 4 downs and the first 3 at 4.1 yards a carry that is over 12 yards. Hmmmmmm sounds like first down to me. I will take that kind of production any day. Especially from a guy the bears threw away and spent the first half of last season watching games from his sofa.

As for our passing game, well lets just say I am very unimpressed. The offense (aside from the running game) is enemic at best. So when you play a team like the vikings who can score in three plays on you then you have to do more than pound the rock. Carson has lost some of his touch. He blames the recievers but in fact if you watch his throws they are wounded ducks. I think he is injury shy now. But that is just a guess.
A 4.1 YPC is impressive for a typical RB, not the Pro Bowl caliber ones. Thomas Jones boasts a 4.5 YPC with nearly 1,200 Rushing Yards and 11 TDs. Maurice Jones-Drew also has a 4.5 YPC with over 1000 Rushing Yards and 300 Receiving Yards and 14 TDs. I dont even have to turn to the stat sheet for CJ and Rice. None of the above mentioned players are on teams with prolific weapons in the Passing game. In my opinion, Cedric Benson is the 5th best RB in the AFC.

Is it illegal to setup computers in Ravens stadium, have a "team event" and have everyone that shows up fill out an online ballot? They should be set up around M&T bank stadium every game, in the inner harbor setup, someone should grab the bull by the horns and do something like this. It only takes a couple computers, an internet connection and a couple people to assist those who don't know how to figure it out. We NEED to get little Ray into the Pro Bowl by popular ballot because he definitely is the real deal and deserves recognition. I am afraid, like Fred Taylor, regardless of his stats, he won't get into the pro bowl. Baltimore is not a team you see on the pages of NFL.com or ESPN because the media sucks and because Baltimore is a small market team, we don't have the quantity of people to make this happen unless somebody does something like I mentioned before. I can do the setup and everything else, I just can't fund the computers and the internet connection.
