2009 Re-Draft

At least according to Don Banks. Ozzie sure is great at getting value with his 1st round picks. Oher may wind up being a better VALUE than Ogden since we got legitimate top 10 talent far outside the top 10.

Yea he has dominated no matter where he lines up RT or LT. I think watching him take on Jared Allen proved he is a rare talent that we are lucky to have.

I'd still much rather have Sean Smith in the 2nd over Vontae in the first.

Oher as the #1 pick. Interesting concept. But seriously why would any team want to waste a first round pick on a OL man? Thank you Ravens organization for understanding the fundamentals of football and going with the OL.

So many teams fail on drafting quality OL men, luckily, we aren't one of them.

We sorta were for awhile. Except for Ogden Ozzie tried to fill the rest of the line out with late round picks. Nowhere did he struggle more than RT. Finally he realized his mistake and sorta corrected the ship by taking Grubbs #1 a few years back.

I'm not saying you're opinion is wrong but Davis has been better than Smith all year.

Yeah but its a value thing. Is getting Oher and Smith better than getting Davis and whomever. I think so. Plus Smith is a rare big corner. That makes him even more valuable IMO. Bottom line, Kruger has his work cut out for him to prove he was worthy of that pick

I'm not saying that Smith is better than Davis. I'd just rather have Smith as our second round pick, and not drafting Vontae in the first.

Id have to agree with Oher being the best choice for a first round draft. He was a steal at how late he was drafted. I question every pick other than him and Webb though...

Phillips was a really good linebacker at TCU, great tackler, good football knowledge and instincts. His blown out knee didnt help him this year. Drew and Peerman were odd picks, personally in the 6th and 7th rounds id go the Adalius Thomas route and look for the biggest freak of nature possible left in the draft. But after about 3 years of finding maybe 1 guy and having bums play on my ST unit Id prob get fired lol. Kruger is an interesting pick, we need to let it play out. He loves the game, works hard from what coaches have said, and wont quit in the pass rush. Hes one dimensional, but so was Suggs when he first came out (not comparing him to Suggs at all). Kruger made a huge pick that kept our season afloat, so maybe he has a knack for making big plays at crucial times who knows.

You imagine the sea of dreadlocks flying around M&T if we had Webb and Smith in our secondary starting in a year or two. They would have had to have made a predator video for intros or something.

Casual fans and even some hardcore fans underestimate the value of a quality tackle, especially one versatile enough to play both sides. Even better is one who can play both tackle and guard, i.e. Marshal Yanda. Difference is, Oher excels at both left and right tackle, whereas Yanda is limited only to the right side of the O-line.

Sounds like my friends, even me until earlier this year. They seem to think all that matters is a legendary QB and RB and away you go! What do you know, Patriots and Colts fans...

Fair point you raise, it's why they picked those teams. My point being they seem to think you could chuck 5 people in off the street to block for Manning or Brady, and they'll have as much success.

They probably still would be good lol but you notice it more supporting a less glamourous offense!

Al Davis: "I don't want Michael Oher, give me... DARIUS HEYWARD-BEY!"

:229031_rofl:
HA I like that. I think I got one even better, Michael Oher was the 5th offensive lineman taken if you include Center Alex Mack but the 4th Tackle taken in the draft.

Rams: Jason Smith OT.

Bengals: Andre Smith OT.

Jaguars: Eugene Monroe OT

Browns: Alex Mack, "Hey Mangini what do you think we should do with the 5th pick?" Mangini: I'm suppose this Aaron Curry guy is going to be a great player.....(ring ring). Jets GM: " Hey guys, just wanted to say hi to Mangini and see what it takes to move in to the top 5 so we could grab Sanchez." Browns: Go ahead take it, deal." Now what do we do with the 17th pick, Mangini: Trade it again!! Let's trade it to Tampa." Now what do we do with the 21st pick? Mangini: Well there is this guy named Michael Oher who was a Top 15 prospect who is still available..... but this guy Alex Mack is so much better. Yeah we don't want Oher, give us Mack!

Thus The Ravens found themselfs in great position to trade up and get Michael Oher in which most likely the 22 teams who passed on him, well really 23 since New England traded with us, are wishing they would have gotten him. Hopefully Oher goes to the Pro Bowl his Rookie Year just like Joe Thomas did.
