Posting Etiquette

6 posts in this topic

We should get a posting ettitquite thread pinned to the of the General discussion. These threads are getting harder and more time consuming to read.

Some Examples:

[list=1]

[*]Use punctuation. If you do not know how to use punctuation. Try your best.

[*]Break up giant paragraphs into smaller concise paragraphs.

[*]Do not post one-to-three word posts. This includes agreement posts. The whole forum does not have to scroll through endless Dittos, :)'s, Snaps and LOLs.

[*]Please back up observations with evidence.

[*]As indicated in the code of conduct. Leave the Caps lock at home, an exclamation mark has the same effect.

[*]Do not start new topics because you had "A Thought". Please scan the topics on the first page and see if your thought can fit in one appropriately. 95% of the time it does.

[*]Do not call anyone bandwagon or call out their fandom. Just because somebody has 10 posts doesn't make them a bandwagon fan. In fact, let's just leave the bandwagon word at home completely.

[*]Also, Nobody is really interested in the dream you had last night.

I think it's a good idea, but we'd probably have to re-word it in such a way that it doesn't sound as if we're imposing our will on people or forcing them to write essays when they post. The informal nature of the internet is a big reason why people post the way they do.

I agree, and I think it needs to be done. More and more posts and Topics are unreadable, in that there's zero punctuation or sentence/paragraph structure.

I agree. My examples were pretty bold and harsh.

I am not an English teacher and I want people to be informal, but I do want to be able to read and respond to any post. Nowadays I'm scanning over posts, trying to find the one most eye pleasing to me.

Just trying to improve the flow of our threads for our avid readers.

I like that, I think I will borrow some of yours and we can see what we can come up with. Is there more MB prestige associated with starting a thread then just responding?
