Goodell tells Dolphins to improve their stadium or no more Superbowls.

Cant say I disagree, that stadium is pretty old and dilapidated. I mean, when you are competing with Tampa, Indy, Arizona, Houston, Dallas, Jacksonville, and Atlanta you've gotta expect more from a Superbowl host Stadium.

I wonder if indy or Dallas will get a superbowl with their new stadiums. Sure would give better odds of the home teams being in the big game for the first time.

I say this Biscotti and Co put up some improvements at M & T Bank Stadium and upgrade it to Super Bowl quality and put a bid in for the 2014 or 2015 Super Bowl to be in Baltimore. Gododell needs to stop ignoring these cities that have NFL teams where it is cold, snowy or any other weather will be in effect. If teams on the way to the playoffs have to travel to GB in January and play in -10 degree snowy weather than why not play the Super Bowl in a city where snow is a possibility. I could see fans traveling to GB, Baltimore, NY, Philly or anywhere else it is cold in Feburary to go watch their team in the SB. Plus it opens it up to cities or states who have only hosted 1 or 2 Super Bowls compared to Tampa or Miami hosting the SB 20 times. Let's have some varitey.

P.S. Hey Roger, why your worried about this now is something I can't figure out, here you are saying Miami needs to upgrade their stadium when your main focus should be getting a new CBA in place, not telling Miami it needs to upgrade. Keep the focus on the CBA or if you can't get something done work out a 1 year improvsion to allow a salary cap for 2010, giving you until 2011 to get a CBA in place.

It'll NEVER happen. The SB will only be played in warm climates or Domes. God forbid it rain during a superbowl at an open-air stadium. If you're paying $500 a ticket to watch two teams that may or may not be your home team you wanna have the best experience possible, not be freezing, wet, etc...Its a business decision, not a fan decision.

by '11 and '12 do you mean the season or the actual year. Next year is the 2010 season, but the actual SB will be in '11.

I'm not sure what he meant either but here is a little clarification. Super Bowl locations through 2013:

2010: Miami (10th Time)
2011: Dallas (1st Time)
2012: Indy (1st Time)
2013: New Orleans (10th Time, first since 2002)

I wonder what will happen first, LA gets a new team or they host their first SB since 1993?

If I was a Miami owner, I would reply back to Goodell: "improve your refs or no more Miami NFL team". :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

I think the Bank would be boss with a retractable roof

yup...it would probably cost twice the original cost of the stadium to retrofit it though, and probably take a couple years...

Dallas is hosting in 2011? That'll be weird if they end up playing in it.

Their stadium is the best there is though, so that'll be a good Super Bowl to watch.

I'm sorry but IMO i just don't want to see a Superbowl in snowy or rainy conditions, only the best conditions for the biggest game of the year.

Super bowl played at night in Green Bay would be perfect.

I would love to see all those corporate non-fans and B-list celebrities freezing their tails off during a defensive slugfest. :lolpoof:

I don't think the 2012 thing has anything to do with the Super Bowl Per se, but I DO think it may be 2012 when the Steelers win another game

It would be a joke on Jerry Jones if an NFC East foe represented that conference in Dallas.

I'd love for that to happen.

Real fans will come and watch no matter what the weather.

For those of us wondering if the NFL would play the Super Bowl outside in cold weather in Feb we'll find out soon. According to the article below the NFL's Six member Super Bowl Advisory approved the Giants/Jets bid as the they are trying to bring the 2014 Super Bowl to their new stadium. The Owners of the Giants(John Mara) and Jets(Woody Johnson) are aggressively lobbying for it and are optimistic.

“Why not play it here?” Mara said. “As a league, we play some great football in cold weather. I do believe we have some momentum. A number of owners have expressed their support.”

Johnson said the combined efforts of two teams and two states created an unprecedented and powerful lobbying effort and that hosting the game would bring “both tangible and psychic rewards” to the region.

“We’re just asking for a one-time event,” Johnson said. “I promise, we’re going to give it our best shot.”

Apparently the NFL waived its weather rule of an outside SB site must have an average daily temp of 50 degrees or be enclosed by a dome to allow the "New York"(did everyone forget the stadium is actually in New Jersey) Region to bid on the Super Bowl. Temperature at the Meadowlands is 32 degrees.

Other cities that are putting bids in for the 2014 Super Bowl are Miami, Tampa and Phoenix. All preliminary bids must be submitted by April 1st. 2014 Super Bowl site will be announced late May 2010.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/18/sports/football/18meadowlands.html

What are your thoughts on the NFL allowing the Giants/Jets to bid on the Super Bowl and do you think they could get it approved to bring the big game to a cold weather city in Feb 2014 or will they lose out to warm weather cities Miami, Tampa or Phoenix?

I'll be rooting for the Giants/Jets to get this bid approved as I feel as if they could be the first cold city to host the Super Bowl it could open the door to more cold weather teams bidding and getting Super Bowls instead of just sticking with warm weather cities.
