What To Do When Suggs Returns !

20 posts in this topic

Maybe its just me but I would like to see Suggs go back to DE when he gets back. I want to keep Kruger at the OLB position so he can grow into a beast player for us. Do you guys remeber when suggs was on the line how awesome he was. Hes like a Dwight Freeney in my head. Hes a hybrid player haha let Kruger stay out side. Although Kruger could play DE as well. But my dream scenario would be to have Ngata, suggs, pryce, edwards on the line and Rayray, Kruger,jj,and Mcclain at linebacker . Of course with Ellerbe coming in and out. I believe it would only boost are defense. What do you guys think?

Split his time with kruger, we need a spark that sizzle didn't provide yet. We can't keep not getting penetration. What a difference not playing for a new contract does.

i hope it´s not all about his big money. he isn´t as dominating as last year. in my opinion we should have let him go and keep bart but what do i know. if he is able to play and willing to play he should be out there and bring it. he´s still better than kruger FOR THE MOMENT. but things could change until next season. for now: get the best man for the best job out there and win the game. everything else is not important right now!!!

Hmm.. What do we do when Suggs returns?

We put him back in his position. Just because he isn't generating sacks doesn't mean he isn't being successful at his assignment. Sure Kruger had a few nice plays in, and JJ is bringing the heat too. But you have to remember that teams gameplan based around Suggs, not Kruger, not JJ (well maybe now they do!). Suggs is getting double teamed, and is allowing other players to get in the pocket and force an early throw or allow them to sack the QB.

I wouldn't mind seeing some rotation in our defense to keep everyone fresh. But Suggs deserves and should be in just about every snap. Mind you, these last 2 games are the only games he has missed in his NFL career.

I think a bigger question is when will Sizzle return...and in what condition?

This is a good point.

You do know that Bart isnt even the best LB on his team right.....

I agree. Harris might be the best inside LB in the AFC.

As for Suggs, while he hasn't done much in the sack department all year, to bench for a player who has done even less would be a bit foolish in my opinion. Kruger's OT interception last Sunday will give definitely give him a boost and result in more playing time, but Suggs is still a much better player than him at this point.

To be fair, though, his departure is a blessing in disguise in the sense that at least it's given three young talents much-needed playing time. Better to have them thrown in the fire in a rotation now than to be saddled with two inexperienced guys in the middle after Ray Lewis retires. The more experience, the better for them and for the team in the long-term.

Of the three in Jameel McClain, Tavares Gooden, and Dannell Ellerbe, at least one of them is bound to emerge as a viable, permanent starter after #52 is gone. Bart Scott's presence only would've left persistent doubts about the spot Ray will vacate eventually.

You can't have 8 linebackers on the same field. Other than that i don' think you will see kruger playing OLB when suggs comes back.

Honestly I think that Ellerbe is going to take the Jack spot, and that Gooden will be the guy to take Rays unless we draft a Rolondo. Gooden plays LB like hes the guy who should make all the plays and Ellerbe just blows up the A gap much like Bart used to do. I think they should put McClain back at OLB to spell JJ, and put JJ on the line on obvious pass downs. This is for like 2011-2012.

When he comes back you can't have him splitting time with anyone, he needs to be on the field as much as possible(this goes for all our best players; Ngata, Reed, Lewis). I think what the smartest thing to do would be what Moiles said and throw him back to DE so Kruger can develop. Suggs is a beast when he only has to worry about one thing and it would help that non-existant pass rush.

Bart was never great in coverage and despite the 06 year when everyone and their mothers had career highs in sacks he was never really that great of a blitzer on pass downs. Suggs is the best run stopping OLB in the league and our only pure pass rusher, letting him go would have been like letting Boulware go in his prime. In regards to your original post Kruger is not half the player Suggs is right now, sorry but thats just the truth hopefully one day Kruger becomes a great player with a nose for the ball but right now Suggs is head and shoulders better than Kruger.

The thing with suggs is he should be given the option of standing or getting down on line (like D.Ware has in dallas) or like Boulware had with us...

I don't want to see him just converted to DL for good unless we have complete set of linebackers...
Johnson has grown on me but when I think about the days of (Boulware, Lewis, Sharper ) or (Suggs, A.Thomas, Lewis, Scott) and even when Hartwell was in the mix for a while... we had all backers that I felt could impact a game with game changing plays.... Right now I see Ray anddd I wonder if Suggs can get ny pressure..

I definitely believe Kruger should be given snaps and at times give him some situational blitz plays see how he handles it... because I don't want the kid to rott on the bench like Dan Cody did.... if any thing he needs playing time just in case suggs does drop back down to line after pryce possibly retires this off season

We need to just get better at developing our talent again,,because it seems like every year we lose 2 r 3 good players to free agency who never play like they played as a raven...

Example (Weaver,D.Starks, Herring, A.Thomas, B.Scott(kinda prediction), Hartwell) plenty otheer names...
