Ray Rice Disappointing At An Autograph Event

47 posts in this topic

Never really got the whole autograph thing. Pretty lame really. In this day and age of so many Ebay happy people looking for a quick buck I don't blame players for acting pissy

Well obviously you didnt read anything I wrote, Rook.

He was paid to do a signing in Annapolis, Maryland last night and he refused to sign any footballs, jerseys or pictures. It bothered me more that he even turned down a young little kid who just wanted the guys name on a football.

Willis McGahee and Bart Scott were actually really nice and down to earth and even Matt Stover let my friend hold his super bowl ring.

I know he is not entitled to sign autographs in public but when he is getting paid to do it and he makes money of the fans buying his jersey, you would think he would be a little more enthusiastic.

he gave me one of his gloves after warmups in cinci i think hes amazingly nice he didnt have to do that hes the only one that came over to us.

Who pissed in your corn flakes?

I don't even eat corn flakes so your whole theory goes right out the window.

Guys, I'm not knocking Ray Rice the athlete, I am just telling you what happened. You all sound like a bunch of Eagles fans attacking me. Like I have mentioned THREE TIMES ALREADY, I like Ray Rice and I respect what he is doing for our team. I just wanted to vent about the signing event and ask if anyone else has experienced this.

If you don't like autographs thats fine. I never said he was entitled to sign my football but I thought it was weird he didnt since he was hosting a signing event.

And to say I have a problem with him just because I like Willis McGahee is just completely stupid and glib.

You know, we lose a couple of games then you guys turn into a bunch of barracudas and turn on each other.

Have a good freakin' day, Go Ravens....

lol, you have every right to be disappointed,

but I think why so many people are skeptical is what they see on T.V. from interviews, and what other fan's say about him... just take it as a learning experience... there are ***holes at all levels in the world, in all jobs etc.

haha you wish. Just saying the guy was a dbag last night. Im still voting for him for pro bowl.
Why would I wish? Willis is washed up. Ray was pretty cool to me when I met him at his radio show.

Maybe Ray was tired of spite face punks riding his cojones....

I think we're forgetting that Rice is only 22 years old! Cut him some slack, he's just a kid... I'm sure he was more than gracious with his time for autographs during training camp. Signing a thousand autographs for 2 hours wouldn't leave me in a great mood either. I wouldn't read too much into it, bud.

His hand is probably in knots... You know how many autographed football cards he probably has out there? I'll bet he's signed his name at least 25,000 times since he was drafted. Not fun.

First of all, Ray Rice the athlete is a beast. He is the work horse for our offense and I respect him for that.

However, I met him last night and he has to be the most cocky, arrogant person I have ever met. He was at a signing event (which his twitter account showed he wasn't thrilled about) and he refused to sign anything brought in.

He basically signed a bunch of pieces of paper, that had advertisements and a horribly pixelating picture on them.

We waited an hour and a half to get this guys signature and wish him a pro bowl season and he blew us off.

I went to shake his hand and said "Good Luck MOnday NIght" and when he shook my hand he didn't even look up or acknowledge me.

I have met many Ravens and Capitals in my life time and have never been so disrespected by a player in my life until last night.

Funny how Harbaugh harps about Character when his star running back thinks he is booby miles or smash williams from Friday Night Lights.

Lost a lot of respect for the dude.

Anyone else have any issues with him like this? I heard that he walked out on a bill somewhere in Baltimore.

I also met Ray Rice that night & he couldn't have been any nicer. We got our pictures taken with him & got autographs. I was the first on there & his reps told EVERYONE in line from the start that he wasn't signing anything else.

My kids & I stayed the whole time he was there and we went back in to see him at the end & got a T-shirt signed and my son ate chicken with him. He was worth the wait.

I know some people were disappointed but we for sure weren't!! He was amazing just like we thought he would be.

I had a similar experience with my favorite singer. He is from England and he was doing a USA tour. I travelled five hours from my home near Cincinnati to Chicago just to attend his concert. I paid $100 for VIP seats and they were great. But after the conert was over I got in line for autographs. The only thing he would sign is his picture that was on sale for $5. After 2 hours in line I finally got an autograph. His agent ask my name so he could address the autograph to me. I spoke to him and told him how much I enjoyed his singing and how far I had travelled to see him. He did not look up or even say one single word to me. I think these celebrity types get above the raisin some times. But like others have said, that is just the way it is sometimes. Sorry you had a bad experience that changed your mind set about Rice.

Can I offer another suggestion? I know a person who basically goes to things like this just to make money on the side. Not for the love of the game or because they are trying to get that one signature their child is at home dying for. I get that this was a scheduled event. But at the same time don't you think it gets a little depressing knowing that some people are only standing in front of you for what they can make off of you? I mean yeah, you meet true fans but then there are others. And yes I get that is part of what comes with the pro package. Possibly if he had an attitude he didn't mean to toss it at you. I'm wondering if something happened with someone else that he just had a hard time letting roll off his back. Some of us are better at letting things like that go then others. I just personally think it must feel bad to know that some fans want to meet you because they love the game and others see dollar signs.

I hear u, but that's an awefully small contingent of ppl doin that. I doubt any players are suspicious that everyone is trying to rip them off. Not to mention they charge a lot for authenticated autos at signing like thatbso it's hard to make a lot of money off it.ostly just dealers who have stuff set up to be signed privately.

I mean I clearly said as an athlete I respect him but as a person I don't. I probably shouldn't used the word tool.

He was just kinda carrying on with his friend who was sitting next to him and was blowing people off, and when you are waiting an hour and half in the snow to meet the future of your team just to be snubbed, you get pretty pissed. That's why i waited a day before posting about it lol
I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but maybe he recognized you from your avatar picture and remembered all of your 'start Mcgahee' posts. Maybe it went something like this...

1) He saw you sneaking up the line... :th_sneak-1:

2) He turned to his friend and said, "That's the guy from the website who hates me and wants McGahee"... :gaah:

3) Then his friend said, "He better show some respect when he gets up here"... :landry:

4) And then you didn't...

5) And then they laughed when you left angry... :point:

And now he's reading your thread, having some fun.... :26:

You never know. :o
