Clayton In The Slot?

Good idea bad idea?

Im saying good idea swapping calyton and Wash's roles may fix alot of issues obviously washington is open alot considering every 3rd down he is right there for the 1st down i just think wes welker is a huge weapon for brady and i think clayton n the slot could be a big weapon for us his speed and small size is perfect for the slot not the 2 spot wich i think washington could be really effective out there thats just me but? gimme some thoughts

agreed, and the topic has been beaten to death

He's pretty decent-to good (inconsistent however) in the #2 spot... the slot would put him against weaker DB's... and maybe even LB's... which would hopefully allow him to get open a little more.... however in Welkers case he has someone that DEMANDS double coverage in the #1 slot with Randy Moss... we don't really have that, and you could definately credit that to alot of Welker's success.... even the guy is phenomenal at his job regardless

It's a wash imo. Moving Clayton to the slot might allow things to open up more for Clayton, but Washington would be just as ineffective on the outside as many think Clayton is. Washington seems to be open on 3rd alot because of his size on the inside against smaller nickel and Dime backs.

imo you line Washington up on the outside against better defenders and he's not as successful. Put Clayton on the inside against possible slower nickel/dime backs and safeties, and his numbers would probably look much better.

So i really don't see an advantage to the Ravens making that move, other then to make Clayton's numbers look better, but the Ravens really don't run enough 3WR sets to make Clayton's impact out of the slot much more then it is now from the outside.

Now if a guy like Justin Harper was able to be more consistent and stretch the field like he did in the preseason then i would say yes, move Clayton on the inside and let him do work underneath, but right now i don't see an advantage to the Ravens doing that.
