One Good Thing About The Steelers

17 posts in this topic

I was thinking about a number of things yesterday including my passionate hatred for the Steelers, Mike Tomlin's angry words in his press conference, Whines Ward, and Ray's postgame interview where he commented about watching "flat" games before playing the night game.

Its obvious but I'll just say it - I'm glad as hell we have a rivalry with the team from Pittsburgh because it makes us better. I mean, it gives us a chronic nagging chip on our shoulder. And it stems from competitive hatred.

I mean, watch most games. Do you sense the raw anger when watching Pack/Vikes, or the Cowboys/Eagles? Broncos/Chargers? Good rivalries, but they don't touch the intensity of Ravens/Steelers.

Last year hurt - a lot. That's a deep well of pain and anger to draw from, in addition to the self-righteous, annual rooster crowing you hear from their fans about a zillion SB wins, or how the Ravens are a bunch of criminals (man that gets old) and so on. And every year the new guys get initiated to the rivalry in a trial by fire.

Just thoughts I had yesterday. I'm glad as hell to be a Raven fan come hell or high water.

I agree, brutal rivalry. I think it will be one that we look at 20 years from now and its still there!

And what makes them so much fun is we bring out the best in each other. Except for 06 when we killed them twice, all the games are close regardless of whose playing. I remember we went into Pittsburg and beat them with a rookie Troy Smith late in the season one year. It makes the games very exciting to watch but also stressful.

Actually that game was in baltimore and we barely won 27-21. We dominated for 3.5 quarters then they started to come back. I remember pittman had the game-ending INT, i was there.

This is one of those type of games that our team would hate to lose more than they'd love to win. The hard hits, verbal abuse, injuries are just part of what is expected when seeing these 2 franchises collide. Even though we just beat Pitts, it isnt legitimate until big Ben is slinging and Polamalu is lurking in the backfield. Either way this is always my most anticipated games of the year. To steal your quote, Im glad as hell to be a Raven fan..

Its legit whether Troy is in or not. Ravens had 3/4's of the secondary out in the AFCCG and the Steelers took advantage Im sure they still call that game legit.

Pretty much a win is a win, injuries are part of the game and sad to say but Troys first year without injury was last year. Great player but he gets hurt once a year for a couple weeks usually.

You too? I remember how cold the rain was that day. And I was jumping up and down when the Steelers fumbled on the first KR of the game.

I knew Cam would save up something special for the Steelers, and it was mostly the unbalanced line. Yanda's knee is strong enough now, Chester is very useful outside, along with Ngata on the goal line. We usually run a cutback away from it, though, I'd like to see us running behind the meat (Gaither and Oher) when they put them both left. James Harrison had a poor showing by his standards, though Woodley and Timmons had a day. Ray Rice did make a fool of Timmons on that ridiculous run and catch after the 4th and 5 with that spin.

Yeah squeelers fans whining about Ben and Troy better get used to it. Having those two on the field together towards the end of the season is an oddity.
And yes if it wasn't one of those two it would be ward or Harrison or someone. Squeelers fans are one of the first to also ditch their team. They also can find no wrong with their team, almost as if pitts is Americas team.

Dennis Dixon put up more points in the Steeler's loss on Sunday night then Ben did in any of their wins last year.
