With The Playoffs Lurking, Who To Start And Sit

7 posts in this topic

This week will mark the conclusion of the regular season of fantasy football for my league. As it sits right now, my team is (7-5) and is looking highly probable to make a run in the playoffs.

Here is my team right now:
Peyton Manning QB
Donald Driver, Michael Crabtree, Calvin Johnson, Santonio Holmes at WR
Thomas Jones, Michael Turner, Clinton Portis, and Justin Forsett at RB
Antonio Gates at TE
Shayne Graham K
Steelers and Saints DST

Heading into week 13 I am confident these guys can get the win, but for the playoffs I'm starting to have doubts about Peyton Manning at the QB position because with his team at (11-0) I think the Colts will begin to prepare for the playoffs with the division already locked up. Do you guys think starting Manning will be a good decision in the playoffs or should I start to consider picking up a QB in free agency or possible trade a RB and WR for Phillip Rivers because the team who has him already has Kurt Warner and his out of playoff contention. Let me know your thoughts

would not hurt to try a trade, also couldn't hurt to pick up a back up either just in case... and I think you're set for the next few weeks cause now they are playing for home field... but its almost a guarantee for them

Does your league still allow trades? A lot cut of earlier than this. Because of just the reason you stated. Making trades to a team out of contention.

Manning will still be a full go in week 15 and week 16 (barring a blow out). They really do not want to break up any continuity they have going. They will have a bye in the playoffs and home field advantage.

They can't afford to have Peyton sitting the pine for rest too long. Why would you want to put ice on something that's hot?

Yea my league still allows trades that's why I wanted to secure Rivers by trading either Holmes or a RB not named Thomas Jones or Michael Turner.

I agree that Manning is hot right now, I'm just concerned that in the upcoming weeks he will only play until his team has a comfortable lead and then Jeff Sorgi will come in at QB. I don't know though, I just feel that the Colts aren't really concerned with a perfect season as much as they are being ready for the playoffs. But thanks for your insight.

I know for a fact that the Colts don't care about a perfect season. But what they do care about is keeping everything the same, while they're hot. They've rested star players before going into the bye in the past and they got burned by it (twice I think).

You're right though. If they do get a big lead, they'll probably throw out Sorgi. But to get a big lead, that'll probably mean that Manning has at least 2 Tds.
