Good, Bad, Ugly

41 posts in this topic

Good
1) Future is bright. We saw that tonight. Flacco was a little inconsistant tonight but he made some really big throws. Rice was his usual playmaking self and the young guys on D, were impressive. The Oline had their moments as well.

2) Harbuagh. He gets a lot of flak and boy if we hadnt gotten that 4th and 5, there probably would have been a riot but nice to see some guts by him.

3) Cundiff. He's not Stover but I like him more than that other kid.

4) Clayton. For once in his life he played like he wasnt scared.

5) McGahee and McClain. We need to use them more.

6) Landry. Looked a lot better against the run tonight.

7) Chris Carr. He didnt do anything bad.
Bad
1) Clayton. Two huge mistakes, unacceptable.

2) Playcalling. If we are going to put LJ and Dwill out there, why not actually involve them in the play? Throw them the ball, let them actually make a play. Throwing them out there as decoy's is only going to work so many times. We should have gotten Heap more involved.

3) OL and Flacco's blitz pick up. There were atleast 3 sacks were a guy came unblocked at Flacco, because someone blew an assignment. Flacco has to do a better job making sure his protection is correct and the OL, has to do a better job of recognizing whats coming

Ugly
1) Those damn refs. This game should have never gone to OT. That missed PI on Mason that would have put us inside the 5 was huge. And had one of our DB's done it, he would have been flagged.

2) Foxworth. Holmes absolutly handled him tonight. Not impressed with this signing.

Yeah, the (intentionally?) missed PI on Mason was ridiculous. You could see Mason seething as there were a couple other bad non-calls on him. I can't explain it other than with conspiracy theories about the refs vs. Ravens and maybe Mason in particular ... :)

I'll agree with you on all points.

I'm not impressed with Foxworth's singing as well.

I think Foxworth will be on the hot seat soon though. Looks like Walker was hungry for CB spot.

Why do so many people think Stover is the answer to everything?I saw him miss today and as much I thank him for all he did for us it's time to let go.Even Johnny Unitas got old and had to retire, after one year as a Charger, talk about what's wrong with this picture!I guess next we should try to get Chris Redmon back from the Falcons because Joe fumbled.

clayton was a big surprise today
He shows up twice a year, so I'm not surprised.

Worse awareness of the night:
Foxworth
Landry (I'm happy he was sticking Miller so hard, but you have to realize the QB is past the line of scrimmage) otherwise did well.

Strongest awareness of the night:
Webb (missed tackle on screen, got up and finished it)
Lewis (got a nice tip, great anticipation) not surprised though.

I really liked Lardarius Webb at corner. I was worried when we lost Fabe but our D was solid for the most part. The thing that still worries me, however, is how we would have faired if the Steelers weren't relying on their 3rd string. If we can stay strong against Rodgers and Benny boy when hes healthy they I'll feel much much better.

That being said, Chris Carr finally did something other than screw up, so that was nice. Although, to be fair, Pittsburgh's special teams this year has been well... the pitts lol so I'm not too surprised Chris Carr almost ran all over them.

Ray Rice beasted as usual, and Flacco was trying to work in the deep ball more often, which was nice. Our o-line needs to give him more time though, he had to rush too many throws tonight.

Oh, and Cundiff made all the kicks that mattered which was great. Haushka is Finkle, Finkle is Haushka, and I'm glad he's gone.

In the end, the best thing was simply getting the win. But gee, if we had lost I would have been pissed. I volunteered at the stadium today (I gave out free towels and watched over section 502 in the nosebleeds from the whole second half) and man it was crazy. Give an inch and people take a mile I tell ya, you would have thought we were handing out free drugs or something. Getting mobbed over towels, having people snatch em out of my (and other peoples') hands, and people straight up stealing stacks of towels from the box really would have had me fuming, but I don't care about all that anymore because we won, so it was worth it.

I will say this though: to everybody who was respectful and patient in receiving your towels tonight, thank you very much and I hope you had an amazing time. I was only a volunteer, wasn't getting paid, so by waiting an extra few seconds for your towel instead of doing what some of the jerks ended up doing you made things much easier and more pleasant and I thank you.

Good game tonight, now let's set our sights on Green Bay. Go Ravens!

I noticed there were kids handing out towels and books
Yep...those 'kids' were us (everybody who volunteered was at least 18 so not really kids but w/e). My friend is graduating nursing school this year, so she got us to volunteer in order to raise money for their grad party. I pretty much stuck to handing out towels, cuz like I said people went crazy for them. Seriously, people went from gate to gate trying to get everyone to give them more towels. While I was getting mobbed by like 10-15 people at one point, some dude ran up and snatched a 10-stack of towels out of one of our boxes. It was absolutely ridiculous.

Oh, speaking of ugly. Flacco got sacked at some of the worst possible times tonight. If our young o-line is so talented they gotta stop letting that happen. Next time Flacco gets sacked out of field goal range might be the last time it will even matter this season.

The one that gave me a book looked about 12, she was a girl and there was a boy with her. I'm not THAT old lol. This also was the lower concourse at the light rail. I told the SAFE guy in our section he deserved combat pay for tonite--boy was it ugly.

Well.. I'm pretty sure people that young weren't volunteers. This one girl in my friends nursing class is like 5ft tall though, so I guess she could've been mistaken for a youngin' but I guess I can really only speak for the people I volunteered with.

Honestly, the ugliness only lasted until the towels were gone. Apparently any real ugliness in the stands was more or less tempered after the first quarter. My supervisor told me the first quarter things were really nasty and then for some reason everything smoothed out. All I did while watching over my section was kick people off the stairs and into their seats. There was the occasional trash talk but in general things were pretty tame up there. I was surprised honestly, considering they're the Steelers and all. I thought I'd be dealing with a whole lot more disgruntled fans tonight but I got to enjoy the game most of the time, for free! :)

Ah well I was lucky then lol. I didn't have to warn anybody, though there were a few times where I was about to but it died before it became a real problem. I did my best not to be a ****, and really like I said all I did was kick people off the stairs lol. I stopped caring when there was about 1-2 minutes left in the 4th. Everybody was standing and packed against the rails so I figured there was no point. I didn't hear any crazy trash talk during that time so it was fine anyway.

It was a neat experience, though at this point I'm not sure if I'll do it again. We have 2 more opportunities to volunteer, against the lions and bears. I already signed up for both but watching the game at home with friends and family or actually paying to see the game is the way to go. Especially on free towel night. :34853_brickwall:

Flacco was looking a bit like Boller at times *shudders*

I know; it's a little scary. I was horrified when I saw the transformation during the second Browns game. Let's hope it's temporary.

Ugly
1) Those damn refs. This game should have never gone to OT. That missed PI on Mason that would have put us inside the 5 was huge. And had one of our DB's done it, he would have been flagged.
Those refs put us in a better position to make the game winning field goal in those final seconds when they marked the ball 56 yards away instead of 59 yards.

Not to mention the spot of the ball on that last second FG attempt. Refs missed a bunch of calls, not just against the Steelers.
I don't have a problem with it as long as it goes both ways, with the calls and non-calls. Hocuhli is one of my favorite refs because he is fair and explains his rationale AND he manned up when he messed up.

Totally agree. There are about two other crews I like as well.

I agree 100%. When I saw Hocuhli was our ref, I was like yes! It'll be a fairly called game.

The refs called a pretty bad game, but a fair game, nevertheless. Ravens got lucky breaks as well as the Steelers.

I'd take Hocuhli's crew every week. Please no Mike Carey.
