Is Cincy A One And Done Playoff Team?

30 posts in this topic

Am I the only one that sees this coming or what?
I'll give them props on their division play this season but I'm otherwise still unimpressed.
Let the post season early exit excuses begin

Honestly, no I don't think they will embarrass themselves. I think Cincy is a solid team this year, as much as that hurts to say. Their defense is great, and always have a strong offense with Palmer. They've added Coles to their WRs, and Benson is really starting to kill it. I'm watching the game now, and Larry Johnson is also running great (granted it's vs. the Browns).

Im perplexed at how their identity changes each week from playoff contender in dominating our division, to just mediocre at best, they lose to Oakland and are somehow only up 3-0 against Cleveland.

Ya but playoff contender with super bowl potential should be murdering cleveland. Not stuck in a game they can throw away again.

This is a professional, divisional football game. If your watching, their offense is walking all over Cincy right now. I guess we'll just have to watch.

My initial statement when I started this posting doesn't exclusively reflect todays game. I'll say this whether it be last week or three weeks from now. I'm not a believer.

I think they can beat both of the current wild card teams, but thats about it. Chargers, Pats, and Colts are better than Cincy.

I have to disagree with the one and done threory. In the past I would have said yes. When the team is backed into a corner then they fold. This is a vastly different Bengal Defense and can still light up the scoreboard when they need to. Yes they have lost a game that should have been an "Automatic Win" and played other sloppy teams far to close. Butthis team seems to step up the level of play of the opponant any given week. The ONLY team in the AFC playoff pictures that I can honestly say I don't believe we can beat is Indy. But evern then there is hope. As for the SuprtBowl itself, the Bengals are notorious for playing the NFC ecetrely tough. I am not buying tickets to Miami just yet, but our fans are pretty excited and that is a huge step forward. I know everyone lays out the outs and such non-sense but all that matters is who you play and how you get the job done. Pittsburgh showed us that the 6th seed team in the playoffs can wiin the big game s with a little luck and a few strategically placed hits on key players.

I think the Chargers can win the AFC. If the Colts are scared of any team in the NFL, its the Chargers. Peyton has never beaten them in the playoffs, and has a horrible TD/INT ratio against them. Even last year when the Colts were red hot and the Chargers were a 500 team, Chargers won.

I'm not convinced, gradual improvements yes but flash in the pan seasons come out of nowhere only to revert back just as abruptly, they have a pattern (just as we do) and next year they'll be back in the basement with the Browns.

I'm going to say give the Bengals 1 more year. When this season is all set and done the Ravens will either be tied with the Bengals at 10-6 or take the division in week 17. The Bengals improved greatly on defense, and they should continue that while giving Palmer a legit # 2 reciever to complement Chad Johnson(I'm not calling him Ochocinco or whatever other name he wants to change his last name to) and the Bengals could be up there next year if they can keep up and have back to back winning seasons.

Based on the performance they just showed in minnesota Id have to disagree. The offense was deplorable and the defense suffered the consequences.
Hey, Im not saying I feel any better about the Ravens' chances in the playoffs, but id be worried about more than just the Colts. The Chargers arent exactly slouching right now.

I agree. But one game is not an acurate berometer. I do worry about their slowed production in offense but I still stand by the defense. They are tough to score on. Minnesota had a great game and the Bengals did not. Every other NFC team they played this year were sliced apart by the Bengals. That was my original point. This game just proves that the Vikes are as good as their record says they are. They defenitely put a pounding on us.

Do I expect the Bengals to go far in the playoffs? Well second round and out I believe. But I am no prognosticator. We will just have to wait and see.

I am not sure it is running out of gas. Basically they have played some mediocre teams this year and those games were close. Yes they played the Steelers and I don't care what their record is they are a tough team. With Troy healthy it may have been a totally different outcome. Yes they beat the Ravens but the Bengals can always get pumped for a division rivalry. Minus the Browns of course. They are starting to play the upper tier of teams in the league this year and showing that they are an improved team but definitely not Superbowl quality. But I will take the improvements they have made and I am very proud of the come back they have had. It remains to be seen if they can play with the big dogs and win. It also remains to be seen if they can put together back to back double digit winning seasons. I have no doubt they will do so this year. They have two more wins coming. That puts them at 11-5.

Cincy hasn't really been playing upto standard lately... they might be running out of gas soon..

We played a lot better against Minnesota than Cincy did...

Fact of the matter is Cincy isn't going to beat the Broncos, Colts, Chargers, or Patriots in the playoffs. Sorry Cincy fans but you'll have to accept this year as "progress". Maybe next year you guys can be a factor.

A winning season is progress for the Bengals. XD

Cincy could easily be fortunate enough to face us or the Jags in the playoffs. They could make it to the second round.
