Joe Should Study Game Film

39 posts in this topic

i have noticed...that our boy Joe Flacco DOESN'T study game film after a series. i am wondering why not?

normally, after a horrible series...Joe will either sit by himself or just stand or walk around....i have never seen him looking at game film to see what the defense is doing. i mean...you will see many of the "elite" QBs on the sidelines doing so....such as: Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Drew Brees.

Joe needs to get with the progam to improve his game!

Unless you are staring at him all game from the bleachers, I doubt you see all of what he does on the sideline. The INT last game was from studying game film. Indy gave him a look that they were gonna blitz Brackett like they did earlier in the game and often in other games, but Brackett fell off his block into coverage. Joe made the throw in front of Rice because both linebackers he saw were behind him. Thinking that Brackett was blitzing like he was earlier in the game, he thought Rice would make a nice catch and run. Indy did a great job in executing the fake and hiding the coverage. It was veteran vs second year QB, and veteran won, unfortunately.

i live in Chesapeake, VA...so i have a birds eye and front row view on the sidelines (the networks and "sideline" cameras see to that.....lol). they always focus on the players walking around or on the QB sitting on the bench.

so for example: if Peyton (being the QB and all) throws a pic...the sideline cameras will show that he is sitting on the bench and IMMEDIATELY flipping through the "in game" photos of that particular drive or series of plays. he's looking to see what went wrong, maybe a wrong route run by the receiver, missed block, poor timing or what parts of the defense he can exploit etc.

i have yet to our boy Flacco doing that! not in any one of these games! the cameras always show that he is either sitting by himself, just staring or walking around. so i am just wondering why he never watches the "in game" photos like most QBs.

I hear that after the AFC CG the first thing Flacco said to the coaches was "let me see the game film so I can see what I did wrong." (Paraphrase)

He's a professional football player, surely he is watching game film. The only qbs that wouldn't begin with Ryan and end with Leaf.

you get a +1 just for mentioning Ryan Leaf...

but the OP was referring to looking at the still-frame pictures during the game, not watching film afterwards

p.s. its about time you update the Ravens record in your sig lol

Ex. Reed had an interception last game. We still lost. Is that stat in your signature updated? :Dancing_Banana_Homer_by_zorkky:

I disagree--you get to see what the network wants you to see. Its totally different if you are at the game and watching the sidelines.

You attend alot of the games, don't you? Have you noticed anything strange?

I see Flacco looking at pictures in this video:

He is always talking to SOMEONE. He may need a minute or 2 to think or clear his head, before looking at pics, considering he is a math/accounting major--math guys are usually "different"--we have several engineers in the family.

Joe can look at pictures till he's blue in the face but the one picture missing is "the big one".The Ravens problems are not that simple,it's a team sport, with plenty of blame to spread around.

First off, to address the topic title and original post, players and coaches cannot view film (i.e. video) on the sidelines; they are only allowed print-outs of aerial shots of each play. League rules due to the nature of recording devices. Secondly, Flacco does study game film after games, as many feature articles have been written about his penchant for staying late, watching film and breaking down tape with his coaches. And finally, many sideline shots of the bench show Flacco looking at print-outs of plays as the game is in progress, and I noticed him doing that in the games I've attended where I've seen him on the bench.

Fran thanks for finally trying to straighten some of these guys out. This topic was senseless anyway. Every qb in the league looks at print outs during the game. Just close this useless place for Flacco haters/doubters to run off at the fingers.

I think you are talking about the pictures of the defense that the opposing team is running. Right?

Except Jamarcus Russel, Al Davis has him doing bicep curls and side raises for a bigger arm and no smarts.

This is a pretty senseless topic. Was this made for the pure humor of saying Flacco's not a good QB?
Maybe your brodcaster is not shooting the right angles and such because ive seen Flacco going over Pics after bad series and even good series. Flacco is a elite QB and does everything you would want a starting NFL QB to do.

Not elite yet; that's reserved for a handful of guys like Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady. But he's still a very good QB who's shown signs of being on the cusp of greatness for the next few years.

Not really. Flacco's very good for his experience but far from elite, and he has a lot of things to improve on.

Lol, I just re-read the thread, the initial post makes it sound like Joe plays PS3 instead of focusing on proceedings.
I'd play PS3 on the sideline instead of looking at satellite images, too.

That's because I'd be a benchwarmer since I wouldn't be good enough to make the active gameday roster anyway. I'd think of it as being paid to study Madden on their behalf. ;)

first off....

this was not a useless thread. it was from a CLEAR observation of mine...maybe not yours...but mine!

2nd...i am a Ravens fan...NOT A FLACCO HATER OR DOUBTER!! that is...as you say...running off at the fingers.

3rd....i know EVERY QB looks at "print outs or "still photos" (not film...perhaps the use of the word "film" in my original post was a bad choice or words on my part...but...i thought everyone would know what i meant)during the game (like after a good drive or bad series)...i.e. i mentioned Peyton Manning and Tom Brady etc. however...I HAVE NEVER SEEN FLACCO DOING SO...therefore....the thread topic. that's not hard to understand. smh!

First of all lets be clear that I did not bring you personally into my response. I made a general statement of MY OPINION. I did not say you were a Flacco hater or doubter. I made a general statement about my "clear observations" of what has been said throughout this thread.
Second thing being: I/we understood what you meant about film/printouts. The point people were trying to make is that Flacco does indeed do this when he is on the sideline. If by chance you dont see it, does not mean Flacco doesnt do it.
No one doubts you being a Ravens fan but when you start a post that is unvalidated, be prepared to accept the responses that you get.
