Ravens Sign Cb Cary Williams

41 posts in this topic
The Baltimore Ravens have signed cornerback Cary Williams to their active roster off the Tennessee Titans' practice squad, according to a league source.

The Ravens needed a cornerback with Fabian Washington to be placed on injured reserve today due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
This was his second year for the Titans. Played in 5 games in his career notching only 12 tackles. I dont know why we still try to sign Titan CB's, only one that worked out was Rolle.

Ravens signed CB Cary Williams off the Titans practice squad.
Williams is a fringe player who has shuffled back and forth between the practice squad and the 53-man roster the past two seasons. He'll offer depth at corner after the Ravens lost Fabian Washington to a torn ACL.

Does this signing mean KG Gerard could get moved up to the active roster?
I know he played last week on ST, but I'm not sure how he did. He'll probably stay on the active roster for depth if not anything else because he takes Nakamura's spot.

Its just insurance. I'm pretty sure he won't be getting any plays.
I agree they are just adding depth, especially in case of another injury.

Though I am glad that they signed Cary Williams instead of Gary Williams. Yelling and screaming at the opposing WRs really wouldn't be very effective..

they also signed FB Charles Ali because Matt Lawrence was placed on IR also
I think a fb signing means willis takes a back seat to Mcclain at rb

This is what I was thinking too. It makes it hard for Mcclain to run only on trick plays with a quick hand off. Although, we haven't got a new FB since the draft so it makes me wonder if this assumption is real. But, its definitely something we need to implement from last year.

I agree. We are not signing players to take over a starters role (Ali for McClain)... McG will not sit no the bench and rot while this Ali guy magically starts starting in the FB position.

Cary Williams has just been signed to sit on the bench, incase all of the following get hurt: Foxworth, Webb, Walker, Carr.

Tyree has been signed to replace the injured Pro Bowl STer we had in Brenden Ayan. Not to end all of the WR bickering and go out and catch balls on his helmit again...

Signing bums this late are for insurance, or because we HAVE to. The odds of them learning our system and playbook, and beating out our current players on the depth chart is slim to none.

Mcclain wouldnt be on the bench....Ali would be blocking for Mcclain, not a starter a situation player

Right now Rice is taking 90% of the carries. So it would cut into his carries, and also McGahee's.

Although I would like to see McClain on some 3 & 1s, I don't think they signed Ali for a situational FB. They signed him to take Lawrence's spot on Special Teams.

Its crazy we have a back like La'ron and we dont use him on the goal line. Remember last year how he literally Ran Over timmons against the squealers for that touchdown!!! what the heck harbaugh or cam!!!

The Steelers signed Corey Ivy...

Since we're on the subject of signings, isn't it ironic how we've signed two former Browns this season?

And the Browns have been cutting and firing former Ravens? (Ivy and Kokinis)

I hope this isn't one of these stupid moves to see what sort of information they can get out of Ivy about the Browns and Ravens.

This crap needs to be blocked. It's not like Ivy knows crap besides how to get burned on the outside.

The Steelers don't need him for the Browns; it's the Browns.

I don't know how much information Ivy would have about us. He's hasn't been on the team at all this year so he's never even worked with our current DC. Things change from year to year...

Hey, Ivy was decent on special teams and he knows how to tackle. That is more than I can say about CertAin people on ouR Roster.

Lol

Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on the smurf. He did get a sack and an interception. He's certainly gotten fewer (if any) PI's than Walker... Nah, he's still terrible.

here's a direct quote from The Tennessean during training camp this year....

One player making a move on the depth chart is second-year cornerback Cary Williams.

With veteran cornerback Nick Harper given a day of rest, Williams worked in his place with the first team defense Thursday afternoon. Coach Jeff Fisher said he earned it with a strong summer — attending every session of the offseason conditioning program — and good start to training camp.

Williams, a seventh-round pick last year, is battling on the depth chart with veteran DeMarcus Faggins and rookies Ryan Mouton and Jason McCourty, among others. Williams spent most of last season on the practice squad.

Said Fisher: "He has been working hard and that is kind of where he is and where he fell on the depth chart, so we gave Cary an opportunity to compete.''

Williams took advantage of the opportunity. He had a pair of big hits and knocked a ball away in coverage.

"He is picking up things, and he understands what to do,'' Fisher said. "His technique-work is getting better. He is healthy and, based on that fact he is picking things up, more comfortable doing what he's doing.''

pretty impressive coming from Fisher if you asked me...

I don't know...

Tennessee had the 32nd rated pass defense earlier this year (that means that Detroit, Cleveland, and Stl were better) when their secondary was injured. That doesn't sound like they have great depth, but maybe that's just me...

Current former Titans:

Derrick Mason
Chris Carr
Samari Rolle (IR)

Hmm... -_-

Williams needs to hit the gym and the all you can eat!

Harbaugh said on his show today that he was 6'1" 200-205

he was listed at 185 at the beginning of the year so either Coach doesn't know what he's talking about or someone already gave him that advice earlier this year lol

sounds like harbaugh´s fault to me. but 6´1" 200-205 at corner is something u can work with as long as u have good coaches...

Decent size. It's nice to see for a change. But your're right about the coaching.

Our secondary coach needs to be teaching these guys how to play corner if we aren't getting consistent pressure on the QB. Because right now our corners play a type of D that relies heavily upon the pass rush.
