Ravens Defense Playing Well Last Two Weeks

24 posts in this topic

the ravens defense is really starting to come around. and thats wat ive been saying from the begging. all we need is experience with each other. we had a new guy beside ray lewis. kelly gregg just came back from injury. new corner dominique foxxworth.dawan landry just cam back from an injury. and to top it all off we have a new defensive coordinator.

I agree for the most part but I still think we need to get better with the pass rush. We are usually in the range of leading in sacks or pretty close to it. We're sitting 9th in the league with 21 overall sacks. Pittsburgh leads the league with 30 so we're not that far behind. I'd still like to see us be doing better than 21. I think we're better than that.

I definitely agree. If I remember correctly Reggie Wayne went the whole first half without a catch, that's pretty good!

Also in the past 2 games, no PI penalties. I don't know if the Browns game counts considering they didn't throw it deep enough for our CB's to even get a chance to draw a foul.

Hopefully this holds up, especially since we lost Washington.

Yes, our D has been playing better or should I say Mattison is using more of the 3-4 most of the time bringing pressure with it.

i agree. the defense finally seems to get theire stuff done. hopefully that continues after the loss fabian. he was on a very good way in my opinion. but we should have enough depht at corner and should be able to perform.
btw: did u guys remember when u where talkin about ray loosing his passion and hit power a few weeks ago. did u see how he pulled this rookie to the ground. that was like a bus hitting a little child. and after that this dude whas a little confused, walking around and shouting some stuff in rays direction. u better not awake the demon young boy lol

Holding the colts under 20 points is a feat in and of intself. it just seems that when we hold the other team to that margin our offense takes a nap. remind you of anything?

Actually our defense has been playing great since the bye week. I think they allowed a total of 31 points so far.

I was never a big defensive basher. Just look at our losses.
Patriots: the defense actually scored for us, and the offense only manages to get 14 points. Sure they gave up yardage, but at the end when we needed it, they got us a 3 and out.

Bengals: The defense scored again, and we only manage to score 7 points. Yes the defense gave up the TD at the end, but if you keep giving Carson Palmer all these opportunities he will score eventually.

Vikings: Ok this is one game I do blame the defense for, but still if it wasn't for the defense getting tighter there would be no comeback. Again the offense loses the game.

Bengals: Sure the defense gave up 17 points in the first half, but the Bengals were shut out after that. We have enough talent on offense to have scored at least 17 points.

Colts: This was a great day for the defense. They got 3 turnovers. One right before they could reach the endzone. Yet the offense couldn't even score one TD.

Is this the dominate defense that we are used to? No, but is this defense more than good enough to help us stay in games week in and week out. Yes, its still one of the top 10 in the NFL. With the way our offense was playing in the beginning of the year, we should have been able to win more than half of these games. Its easy to blame Mattison and our D, but we have to face facts; just like any old Raven team, we are losing because of the offense.

Except this Ravens offense doesnt use a power run game now.

I've been impressed, but the lack of pressure on the QB still has me very concerned. Should Big Ben play, it is imperative that we keep contain and don't let him break the pocket where he's most lethal.

The problem is that with exception to the first time we played Cleveland, and the Denver game the Ravens haven't put forth a total team effort. This team looked unstoppable in instances where both the Offense, Defense, and Special Teams are clicking.

I know, it's usually a pump fake then hand off to rice or a delay to rice. Against the Colts, when we got shut down on the Goal line Cam really only put an extra TE out on the field. Last season Cam had a heavy package that he used a lot, and also he would bring in the extra Tackle and run an unbalanced line, and you'd even see Haloti make a cameo lined up at FB or tackle every now and then. Where has cam's imagination with the offense gone?

While I agree Cam should work in more extra TEs, unbalanced lines and jumbo packages, none of those formations may have made a difference on Indy's goal-line stand because the interior o-line got blown back on consecutive plays.

Isn't it strange how we thought we'd need a huge game from Suggs just to be in this game. But with Suggs out, we actually pressured Manning better.

We do need Suggs to play against the Steelers. It seems like the only time he really gets himself pumped to play.

Yes. It reminds me that for the most part, we are very young and inexperienced as units on both sides of the ball, but talented as well. Hopefully things gel sooner rather than later.

It also reminds me of my golf game; Some days chicken, some days feathers.

Suggs has been brutal this year and actually looks softer too. Maybe this offseason without the shoulder injury and the achilles injury he'll actually get back into shape and return to the pass rushing monster we know him as. Or he'll skip TC with a phantom injury who knows lol.

It's great that the defense has been playing well but unfortunately defense can't win games anymore with all of the rule changes. Our offense has to step up.

I doubt we'll ever see a defense that can compete with some of the greatest of all time. What the Ravens did in 2000 will never be even close to repeated because the way the game is now.

I felt hurt after the game...I just had this feeling that we could have done so much better but something was stopping them from performing at an optimum level.

I watched the Ravens play the Colts. I thought it was a great game. It would have been better had the Ravens won but they kept one of the leagues most prolific offenses in check pretty well. And the offense kept pace pretty well. It was a tough loss no doubt but it was well played in my opinion.

They same effort this week against the Steelers (a lesser team than Indy) and it will yield a W without any doubt. As long as the defense stays after Big Ben then the Ravens will be fine. They will probably get a pick or two and then there is that free kickoff return for 7 that the Steelers like to give away every game.

Go :argdancingravensblueonwkk8:
