I would love to see it, not so much of the ridiculous name like wildbird, but just the formation. Mark Clayton was a QB in high school, Flacco is a hybrid QB with speed and SOME ability to catch passes. And who knows what Ray Rice and McGahee can do in the passing game only time will tell. But id love to see more trickery and keep the defense on their feet against our O..

i think remembering that we have those kind of plays in the playbook is the first part of this.
seems the offensive plan has gone vanilla again.

Yes, I agree.

Watch a few games from last season. The Ravens have a package where they bring troy smith in, he usually runs, but sometimes he lines up at WR, or in shotgun with Flacco at WR. I'm just wondering where all of the imgaination in Cam's offense went?

The Wildcat offense hasn't brought about an offensive revolution as people assumed it would in the NFL after last season. Though the Dolphins still use it with regularity, teams haven't had as much success with it as in 2008, largely because it's a run-first offense with little in the way of passing. The delay in the backfield in setting up the play, run or pass, can easily be negated by speed on defense -- which NFL defenders have in spades these days. The Ravens showed that the Wildcat can be contained simply by getting quick penetration in the backfield, cutting down on the time the offense has to set up the play. The direct snap to the RB on a keeper, meanwhile, is easily contained through filling up gaps.

Though the gadgetry of the Wildcat is effective on the goal line, it hasn't yielded as many yards in the open field as in 2008 because teams are playing it smarter and expecting it every game. The potential for the formation as a viable passing option is limited, despite the athleticism of many NFL skill players on offense these days. The Wildcat, simply put, is not revolutionizing the game the way the vertical passing game did.

However, that's not to say that Cam Cameron still can't get creative with this Ravens offense. Many people admittedly want to see the Wildcat because of two reasons: 1) they want to see Troy Smith on the field in some capacity, and/or; 2) they want highlight-reel moments to get excited about. Frankly, in the situations the team has been in, there've only been a few moments that would've called for gadgetry or offensive wrinkles. But, at the end of the day, this offense was ranked 2nd in the AFC early in the season largely because of fundamental football. The Colts don't use gimmicks, rarely resorting to anything beyond their basic formations. Neither have the Saints nor the Steelers. Successful teams can win without gimmicks.

Cam's biggest concern right now should be cutting back on penalties and getting the ball to all three running backs, rather than trying to turn Mark Clayton into a situational QB or the quarterbacks into gadget wide receivers (decoy or otherwise.)

I have seen Willis and Rice in the backfield at the same time in a Shotgun formation.

When this team can successfully get 3rd down conversions, then the play of Willis and Leron etc. will increase. In the past few games, we've been playing from behind and needing to catch up. Though you want to neglect your other players, the Ravens want their best players in certain situations to make the conversion.

I was never a big fan of the "Wildbird/Wildcat" formation. Though it wasn't necessary.

I saw the Colts run this year where Addai threw the ball to Wayne but that's about it. If we run the ball with success and convert on downs, then our increase in offensive production will show.

Time of possession is key.

According to the NFL broadcast maps, the game will be airing on CBS throughout all of Delaware (where I see you're from) and the Ocean City area. In fact, the majority of the nation will be getting the game.

It was certainly interesting to see Ray Rice throw a pass last week, albeit in the wrong situation as far as I was concerned. Wouldn't be a bad idea in the red zone for a bit of variety.

I don't mind Wildcat plays, as long as they aren't overly risky. We don't want to be handing away possession to Indianpolis...

It is ok once in a while to see a Suggs package type play. I prefer to see consistant play from the starting offense. Trick plays seem to break down more often than they are successful. I dont think we will see any type of trickery today. Like you said, you dont want to hand Manning the ball with a missed play like that.

Our boy Webb seems like a great component for a wild cat type offense.. Would love to see him as a receiver, or maybe take a snap or two.
