Afc North Team & Mutual Respect

64 posts in this topic

I have always felt that the Steelers fans and their team was the most disrespectful in the AFCN. Now I have see a few Steeler fans on this board that are exceptions to the rule. But in general, Steeler players and fans show nothing but distain for other teams in the league and in their division respectively.

Baltimore Fans and players seem a bit different. They want their team to win of course. That is the object of the game. But on the field I saw Ravens players helping Bengal player off the turf and patting them on the helmet and such.

Browns fans seem respectful most of the time but then when you are the eternal bottom of the division what else can you be but respectful.

Bengals fans for the most part are respectfull to all teams they play. The only exception is against the steelers. There seems to be a mutual hatred there and I wish that were not so. Steelers have a lot of talent consistantly and they show heart and fire when they play. Guess that is what makes them so successful year after year. I try to be respectfull to steeler fans because they have a great team and my team is hot and cold at best. Usually cold. But some fans this week burned a terrible towl. I find this most disturbing and disrespectful. So to Steeler fans I apologize for the act of a few rouge fans. I assure you that is not the mentality of most Bengal fans. We know our team is very fortunate to be where they are and we know that could change quickly. I do wish the Steeler Board would allow me on but two attempts were denied because I identified myself as a Bengals fan. Note this board allows me on. Cudos to the admin here for allowing all fans to come in and chat. Most are like me. We don't talk smack. Just talk football.

Anyone have differing opinions about this?

Thank you. I plan to visit often. I enjoy talking with fans who love the sport I love so much. It is hard to remain loyal during the long stretches of my team being not so good or outright horrible. But they are my team so I stand by them. This year they are giving me hope.

I certainly think the AFCN crown is wide open still. The next three games for my team are possible trap games. Hope they keep their eye on the prize and play each week like it is a playoff game.

I think all four teams have great fans and really poor fans. I will say that naturally I've encountered the occasional jerk fan in Baltimore when I go up there for the games but honestly overall most fans I see up there are really cool and I have a good time watching the game.

I know a couple of Steelers/Bengals fans that are cool and some that are idiotic; I guess you get more of the Steelers only because there's just more Steelers (or wannabe) fans around.

I live in Brown and Steeler country, so I've had my run ins with both. Traditionally, the stereotype of Steeler fans being arrogant, cocky, and disrespectful holds up. However, those Steeler fans who don't fall into that stereotype are genuinely great football fans to talk to (Warden and Prophet are amongst them). So it pretty much depends on which camp the Steeler fans you deal with fall into.

I used to think Brown fans were respectful and good people, but my trip to Cleveland for Monday Night Football changed that greatly. I was called an... *ahem* a-hole while walking around town in my Reed Jersey, harassed further about how much my team sucks (which is ironic, seeing as their argument was we're 4-4, so we're a crappy team, when they're 1-7). When Nakamura and Suggs were injured, I heard more than a few happy remarks and claps from the fans around me. Granted, their behavior is greatly influenced by the history of the Ravens and the city of Cleveland, but no matter the history, it is never acceptable to cheer over an injured player (especially one carted off the field). The split of decent to rude Brown fans I encountered wasn't even close. I did run into a few who told me they'd rather see me "in purple than yellow", but the vast majority would rather harass and disrespect over the color purple.

As for the Bengals, I really can't comment on the fanbase, I've literally only ran into two Bengal fans in my entire 21 years of life. But they were good friends of mine and good people to talk football with. I see it as if your team has had the lackluster history that the Bengals have had in recent history, you have to be humble and a decent person. It's hard to talk trash when you can't get over 8-8.

It's hard to say So-and-so has the worst fans, because every team has their idiot fans which ruin it for everyone. The Steeler fans have the worst reputation (despite holding the biggest fan base), but those who aren't stereotypical Steeler fans are some of the best people I've ran in to to talk football with. The Brown fans seem to have a aura of being good fans about them, but when it comes to the Ravens, they are some of the most despicable fans I've ran into. And the Bengal fans are... well, Bengal fans. I approach everyone with an open mind when I first talk to them, despite whatever team they root for.

I think it just depends on your personal experiences. Every Cowboys fan I personally know is an idiot (especially my brother). Likewise with the Colts fans I know. I know two Bengals fans and let's just say I hope neither breeds. Most of the Redskins fans I know are relatively polite and can't trashtalk to save their lives. The lone Packers fan I know is a riot and we have a great time picking on other teams together. This will be the first year our teams play since meeting, but the ribbing is good natured. The Eagles fans I know are similar to the Packers guy. Oddly enough, except for the kid who bags groceries at Giant, I don't know any Steelers fans.

I'm not counting anyone here because I don't really know any of you.

For the most part though, football fans aren't nearly as bad as NBA fans. Football people are used to not everyone caring about football. Basketball fans seems to take it personally when you don't care.

Who is you favorite Ravens fan?

Actually I have met some pretty cool Browns except the ones that live in the past on line, never had too many dealings with Bengal fans but my brother had fun with them in 'Natti a few weeks ago.

Steeler fans OTH are pretty much the bane of my existence, let me preface that by saying my cousin married into a family of season ticket holders  and my spouse is from Western MD deep in the heart of Steeler Country, I have nothing but run in's at funerals, flipped off on the beltway because of my Ravens plates so I think they are just a disagreeable bunch. BTW I do like Warden and Steeler Prophet who post here they are nice guys as is my cousins husband.

Needless to say, all fan bases have their jerks. I live in Eagle / Steeler country. I'd say it's about 60/40 Philly/Pitt. None of their fans that I've met have been jerks (and I work with a ton of them). One thing I'll say about Eagle fans, they are the most "fair weather" fans I know. If the Eagles win on Sunday, it's a sea of green on Monday. If they lose, I won't see one green shirt. The Steeler fans I work with always wear their colors, no matter the outcome of their previous game. I can honestly say, I don't know one Bengal or Browns fan. I work at a facility that has over 1500 employees, I've only ever seen 1 person besides me wear Ravens colors. :o

True Bengals fans are rare! Witness the Franchise record since becoming a team. We have tons of fare weather fans like most teams. Kind of makes me sad to see them jump off the bandwagon during a season like last year. I cheered my team every game even after they were elliminated from the playoff chase in week 4 :229031_rofl:

I have met more Steelers and Browns fans in my home town than any other team and 98% of them were very humble. Never met a Bengals fan but I would think most would be the same. I guess it comes with the territory, the farther you get away from the teams city the less wild the fans are, I dont know but when I do meet a jerk fan of some team I dont think the same for the whole fan base.

A good friend (Buc's fan) is engaged to a Browns Fan. Having her over is always fun because they sleep in the Steelers Room. lol She brings her brown blanket and hides or covers as much Steelers stuff as she can. The best was watching a Steelers/Browns game with her; FWP ran for 20 yards or something and here is her at the snap: "Get 'em, get 'em, GET HIM, GET HIM!!!! .....Get him sooner than that!" lmao.

The few Bengals fans I've encountered have been pretty cool (save the couple trolls that visited Steelers Fever).

Ravens fans have impressed me the most though. I got into it with a few of them at the AFCCG and once in 2005 (I think) but 99% of the Ravens fans I've encountered have been a real pleasure to know.

I DO NOT like Cowboys fans.

Speaking of Steeler fans on the fringe, I was just reading some threads on their official discussion board. I can not post there because I am a Bengal fan and thus unwelcome. They are telling people that are coming to baltimore for the game to stick together entering the stadium and never go to the restroom alone because Baltimore fans have been known to beat the **** out of them in the bathrooms. I never heard a word about anything like that.

They also have a thread about the Raiders crushing the Bengals. One poster said "We can count on the Vikings, Colts, and Jets to take them to 11-5." I guess I missed the call from Goodel changing our schedule to add Indy in the regular season. Oh well. Must have happened because those rabbid fans over there are sure they are right.

News Flash: Bengals ALWAYS play the NFC tough. Last time we faced Favre we picked him 5 times and run the ball all day long. Of course that was with a different team. The Chargers usually thump us and I am fairly certain the Bengals with dispatch with the hapless Jets in short order. 12-4 at worst, 13-3 more likely. And after the Ravens beat the Steelers they will be praying for help on Jan 3 to get the last wildcard slot.

Some people have the stereotype that Raven fans are all thugs, which is most likely the basis for that statement. I live in Steeler country and I have never, ever heard even one story about a Steeler fan getting jumped by Raven fans in the bathroom or outside the stadium. Logically, that doesn't even sound safe for the "thug" Raven fan. They'd be the overwhelming minority at Heinz Field, you'd have to have some big stones to jump someone at their home field when you're outnumbered that badly.

The hardest games Cincy has left are the Chargers and Minnesota (both are away games for Cincy as well). Other than those two, all of the others are very winnable, The Jet game is a toss-up. You never know how they're going to perform, so as much as I hate to say it, the Bengals could finish 12-4.

The Jets do scare me a bit. I watch them week to week in highlights. Just depends on which team shows up to play. Jekle or Hyde. It is also worth noting the Bengals have never won in Oakland. So trap game is an understatement I think. Will just hope for the best. And yes I think 12-4 is very achievable. I believe that would give us a buy the first week while Pitt/Baltimore/... face the Pats. To early to call the AFCW even in this pure speclative senario. One thing for sure, the wildcard race is going to be just that WILD!

Just as there are good and bad people everywhere, there are good and bad fans for every fanbase. Generally, though, fans of a team that is either doing well [like the Steelers with their many Superbowl rings] or getting a lot of publicity regardless of how well the team is playing [Cowboys fans], seem to breed obnoxious fans more quickly than fans of teams that are struggling and, therefore, more humbled [Browns fans]. Fans of teams like the Bengals are humbled and appreciative of their newfound success, but if the Bengals keep up their winning ways, they will breed some more obnoxious fans, too, it's just the nature of the game.

Of course, like I said, all fanbases have great fans, and I think they are the majority, even for fanbases with bad reputations. We all know the vocal minority of poor fans overshadows the quiet majority of good fans.

And, of course, there are some great fans from all teams and it's nice to have some of them on this board. Welcome to our newest Bengal fan!

The story here is that after the moster helmet to helmet hit Ray Ray put on the ocho, Chad was going to charge Ray Ray until a fellow Bengal held him back and Ray Ray supposedly said "Love you man". As the two are friends and clearly respect each other I can believe most of that. But believing Chad would be stupid enough to charge Ray Ray is just beyond belief! :229031_rofl:
