Dallas Fan With A ?

Hi guys,

I just had a quick question. We got one of your DBs from last year and I was wondering what yall thought of him. That's right I said yall, laugh it up! Oglesby's been inactive the past couple of games and your defense was pretty good last season. Can anyone give me some insight to pass on to the Dallas fans who are boggled by Nate Jones being ahead of him on the depth chart? There's a thread on him on DC.com and no one really has a clue, so I'd figure I'd ask the people who know what's really going on. Thanks a lot and good luck this week in SD.

Evan Oglesby was formerly an undrafted free agent who, at one time, was the 4th-string cornerback, behind Corey Ivy (the nickelback) and starters Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle.

He didn't amount to much statistically in his time in Baltimore, but played well enough to beat out 3rd-round draft pick David Pittman for that 4th-string spot on the active roster, as well as fellow undrafted free agents Jamaine Winborne and Ronnie Prude, and late-round draft pick Derrick Martin.

Eventually, Oglesby would be rotated with Martin, Winborne, and Prude throughout the season, with Prude and Winborne making the most of their time on the field, hence the expendability of Oglesby, as Martin was technically the higher investment as he was a draft pick, and he'd also yield somewhat bigger returns when thrust in the starting lineup this season.

Honestly, the only thing that kept Oglesby on the roster for so long was his athleticism. There were times in preseason when he'd have his hands on the ball, but wouldn't focus enough to make the pick, or he'd be a split-second off in his timing.

I'd say Oglesby is a project player for the Cowboys and can be a valuable asset in the future, particularly as a nickelback. But for now, he's nothing more than a practice squad player.

he's the type of player of whom with time and effort and Practice... he will be a good player for your team....the kid has potential but he just needs to learn how to "show" iit the proper way on the field...but as i said before...Practice will fine tune that.

Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate the thoughtful and respectful insight. A nice change from our NFC East foes. Good luck the remainder of the season.
